  1. Once again I'm not 100% sure of this, but Live Nation never owned the land. It was leased and the option to renew was not presented by FCE so that they could turn it over to Rock with the sale of the land. Will the Nautica Pavilion now get more concerts?

^ When I was there, the loop seemed to get pretty dead at night, while north of the river had a lot of life.
  3. Why does the PD make it seem like demolishing the Columbia building will be super easy? Its is already declared a landmark and is on the historic buildings list. Look at this map they made. This is what im talking about. http://media.cleveland.com/metro/photo/11cgcasinobjpg-9a30f1d51c57059e.jpg
  4. Thats somewhat of what I been saying too, but with more detail. Really the city has so many options its crazy. Unfortunately one of the worst possible options is the one with the most momentum. Didn't Frangos also buy the gateway garage and the empty land next to it?
  5. Does anybody know how many Homicides there have been this year? I got around 11 but I could be wrong. In 2009 there was 11 in January alone.
  6. What are you using as "Central Columbus"? I've never seen a figure of 220,000 used anywhere. The Downtown's core population went UP 40% since 2000, according to the Dispatch. The Downtown is doing very well with the older inner suburbs just outside of Downtown being hit and miss with most of North High St. gaining as well. Even Franklinton north of Broad saw a very decent population rise, and Franklinton is one of the oldest and probably least desirable neighborhoods in the city. The suburbs closest to 270 but inside the outerbelt probably lost the most, and then the suburbs almost all gained again outside of 270. I noticed on the map the Dispatch had showed that the biggest losses were also in areas that had the highest rates of vacancy and were hit particularly hard by the economy. Not really a surprise. One area, near Nationwide Children's Hospital, however, showed one of the biggest population losses, but part of that is because of redevelopment. The hospital has been involved in an $800 million expansion and quite a lot of low-income housing was demolished. That overall area is seeing a lot of changes. So even in those areas that saw a population drop, it's not all indicative of an overall decline. For Central Columbus I was referring to the original borders before Columbus started their max annexation of sprawl. Also the neighborhoods east of downtown lost a good amount of people as well as the neighborhoods south, northeast, and southwest of downtown. If that 220,000 number is correct(Which I found on here) then Central Columbus lost around 20% of their population which is a big problem the city must face.
  7. ^ True, but I love our Browns Message from Commissioner Goodell Dear NFL Fan, When I wrote to you last on behalf of the NFL, we promised you that we would work tirelessly to find a collectively bargained solution to our differences with the players' union. Subsequent to that letter to you, we agreed that the fastest way to a fair agreement was for everyone to work together through a mediation process. For the last three weeks I have personally attended every session of mediation, which is a process our clubs sincerely believe in. Unfortunately, I have to tell you that earlier today the players' union walked away from mediation and collective bargaining and has initiated litigation against the clubs. In an effort to get a fair agreement now, our clubs offered a deal today that was, among other things, designed to have no adverse financial impact on veteran players in the early years, and would have met the players’ financial demands in the latter years of the agreement. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/article-1/Message-from-Commissioner-Goodell/d971feaf-7017-4f8c-b6a5-f29db6cfb668
  8. ^ Okay I found on here someone said it was about 220,000 in the 2000 census. I read that it has lost 45,000 this census. That makes for over a 20% loss in Central Columbus. This is something the city will need to pay attention to. Yes the city is growing still, but it must attempt to retain its core.
  9. Does anyone know what inner-city Columbus population was before the census?
  10. Arrogance unnecessarily jeopardizes ’11 season The sad thing about the NFL Players Association’s decertification and the courtroom tempests that are sure to follow is there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the most lucrative sports league in the world. Sure, NFL players don’t have guaranteed contracts, and the league and union have never done enough to provide for its former stars who took beatings on the field as the sport’s popularity blossomed. But these are not issues at the heart of the dispute between the NFL and the players’ union. The players have long ceded the hammer to the league on contract issues with their refusals to stick together on strikes. As one former player rep once told me 10 years ago: “I’ve got a family. If we had a strike I would seriously consider crossing [the picket line].” The tradeoff was a general period of peace in which the bonuses paid to players steadily rose and the owners got richer too with sweetheart stadium deals and television contracts too fantastic to be true. Aside from the possible addition of a rookie wage scale that all of America probably believes should be implemented, there is little else in the negotiations that changes the way the NFL is run. Regardless of what comes out of court rulings in the next few months, the players will still get big bonuses without guaranteed contracts and the owners will continue to get rich. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=lc-nfluncertainty031111
  11. Thanks for sharing! Great pics!
  12. Yep you guys are correct. Nice eye
  13. ^ It could be. Im not sure what I think about it though. It is a better location. Also it finally fills a large mostly vacant building with a difficult floorplan for other uses. But if it demolishes everything around it for parking then this really blows. Also possible future expansions could be on higher floors if thats possible as well as over the tracks just south of the Higbee building
  14. Why are they acting like demolishing the Columbia building will be easy? Also since most of the Casinos traffic will be in the evenings and weekends, whats the big worry. All of the parking spaces taken up by downtown workers will be free during those hours anyways.
  15. A couple other streets look more like lower income family homes due to the less expensive materials and designs. East 70th is a perfect example of the poorly designed streets. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=41.50734,-81.640837&spn=0.00194,0.004812&z=18 http://tinyurl.com/4zxrzav Between East 73rd and 77th seem to have expensive houses. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=41.510032,-81.636132&spn=0.00194,0.004812&z=18 http://tinyurl.com/4clzavc And like I said before Linwood seems to have pretty nice design and density(Zoom out one) http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=41.511733,-81.648199&spn=0.00097,0.002406&z=19 http://tinyurl.com/4px5fgb And I think these one are low income houses(Which are pretty nice considering, better than most suburban houses) http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=h&layer=c&cbll=41.493492,-81.662089&panoid=4Xfb1xRq6RveLsGVorNI5A&cbp=12,33.05,,0,2.19&ll=41.493492,-81.662089&spn=0.003881,0.009624&z=17 http://tinyurl.com/4w4mqjy
  16. Im not seeing that bad of cars in most of the driveways though. The east side has been devastated so badly that it is actually giving us an opportunity to rebuild. But the city needs to come up with a plan. Some streets like Linwood are nicer with what I believe better designed houses with a decent density. But then other houses on different streets are on huge lots. And I think some of these houses could be more recent which is a good thing. I see some houses on aerial view that dont exist in Street View.

A Beautiful Mind was an awesome film
  18. You have the May Company Garage and the garage connected to the Q, and the Tower City Garage right there! And you have 515, and the other gateway garages, as well as the 200 public square garage, and PNC's and Fifth Thirds parking garages aren't that far away either. After that we still have tons of other garages, the warehouse district parking lots, and the Muni Lot which people can take the rapid basically straight to the casino. We have plenty of parking available.
  19. And in the end Butler still wins it all
  20. Well the Columbua building at least is already considered a landmark. So hopefully that will help save the block
  21. ^good stuff #35
  22. If anything happens to this block, it will be very hard for me to just let it go. This could end up being the last straw. If this happens, it shows that the city clearly doesn't give a shit about its historical destruction and it will end up being worse than the newer cities of the south. Even worse with less people and more empty lots.
  23. Can't they just add on to the garage just south of this? It close to the casino and arena. It's also currently just empty land
