  1. ^Thanks And I would love to see a new building there but I dont see that actually happening
  2. That would be awesome! But is Westin supposed to open in the flats?
  3. ^ The "d" at the end of the link is making it not work
  4. Looks like they are working on the inside of the dorms today. Putting in drywall perhaps
  5. ^ Thanks, it will be such an addition to the the corner to have this building restored and looking what it used to. I love projects like these. This, 668, and the two buildings further down on Euclid that I seem to always forget the name of, are all great examples of how past beauties covered and mistreated can be restored to their former glory.

And I know of cops that have become huge and can barely move. They are definitely not fit for the job but somehow able to maintain it and not get fired. I think, as a cop, that you should have to maintain a certain level of physical fitness. You have to be able to move in a lot of situations. And from what I have heard(not sure if its true) but the same things applies for teachers in regards of being difficult to fire. Not with the physical fitness part but with the ability/desire to perform their job.

I feel that teachers in suburban districts have a whole different experience then teachers in urban districts. I think a lot of teachers in suburban districts do have a more laid back, less stressful jobs, with less extra hours. If only there could be some sort of incentive for teachers to teach in urban school districts because I do acknowledge the challenges and stress that comes with an urban teaching job.

There seem to be a lot of workers walking around downtown during lunch hours and really anytime during work hours. They have to be going somewhere! So I would say they have the largest impact on street life currently cause they add the most people to the streets as of now.
  9. Community groups teaming with Cleveland in program to fight neglect and blight CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland community groups and the city's Department of Building and Housing will collaborate under a new plan to combat the blight and neglect that have brought some parts of the city to the brink of extinction and threaten some of its more desirable neighborhoods. The brainchild of Councilman Jay Westbrook, the "Strategic Code-Enforcement Partnership" is designed to create a new system for enforcement of the city's building codes at a time when resources are dwindling. "It's our rescue operation," Westbrook said. "It's like a severely ill patient who needs a tough regimen that can lead them to recovery." The plan has the blessing of Mayor Frank Jackson despite Jackson's past concerns with strict code enforcement. The plan calls for community development groups to work hand-in-glove with Building and Housing to conduct exterior inspections of every building on every street in the city over the next three years. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/02/community_groups_teaming_with.html

Exactly, in a 2050 Cleveland, I think we would all like to see a healthy amount of retail downtown, cause that would mean we have improved and declined further

^ Still though Scantrons are becoming more and more popular. Instead of having to grade all the multiple choice questions and true and false questions on tests, the teacher can just feed it through a machine to save time which makes sense.

Teachers do get a lot of breaks like the ones that you have mentioned. Plus they get out of work relatively early. And with scantrons it has become even easier to grade the tests. The lazy ones even give credit for just doing the homework so that they dont have to take the time to grade it. I think the way that a lot of teachers teach, it can be one of the least stressful, most relaxed job. And I know they might not get as much time time off as the students do but they still get more then a regular profession. And they get paid pretty decent for the time they put in. Now this is not the case for every teacher but it is for a lot.

Something else I would love to see is the Fifth Third Bank parking lot demolished(or at least the end that front East 6th Street) and have some sort of Residential Tower built there with street level retail. That could really liven up East 6th.
  16. So only the church would go? That doesn't seem to make sense unless they plan on acquiring the building next door as well, but still. Im surprised they aren't going after the East Mt. Zion Baptist church. That would give them a huge chunk of land in the middle of their campus with Euclid Avenue Frontage

Is their anyway to add retail space to ground floor of Key Tower? Ive never been inside but could it happen? Maybe just as simple as a corner coffee shop with an inside and outside entrance? And honestly the best building on public square that provides street level activity is the Park Building. The Terminal Tower does as well for people who use that entrance put thats more of a funnel effect and it takes up a Huge area with little street life. The casino should help the complex, and doesn't the renaissance hotel have retail spaces on the square?

Nice work! Not only is their height restrictions for the lakefront but it would also be(i believe) impossible to build anything of the height there because the land is essentially landfill. By 2050 I would also like to see the lot next to 668 filled in as well as the one south of east 4th street/prospect.

  22. Im not sure if this has been this way for awhile or what but I drove by the 8 story building next to channel 5 and it looks like the inside has been completely stripped? Is this new or has this been like this for years?
  23. An interesting piece with an anti sprawl theme University Hospitals' Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood tries to balance evidence-based design with sprawl Architects have tried for centuries to come up with the perfect rulebook for design excellence. The new University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center at Chagrin Highlands in Beachwood, which started admitting patients earlier this month, is perhaps the most complete local test yet of a new theory - evidence-based design - which argues that rigorous scientific research shows how good design can help patients heal more quickly and at lower cost than traditional hospital design. The result at Ahuja - named for its principal benefactor, UH board Chairman Monte Ahuja, his wife, Usha, and their family - is both a hit and a miss. The $298 million, 144-bed facility is an intensely rational and compassionate effort to create a state-of-the-art healing environment. http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2011/02/university_hospitals_ahuja_med.html
  24. Cleveland attracts national interest after Barack Obama's small-business forum CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Why Cleveland? It's a question local economic development officials have been asked -- and answered -- a lot in the days following President Barack Obama's recent visit to Cleveland with top Cabinet members. Ray Leach, chief executive of the nonprofit JumpStart Inc., said he has fielded dozens of calls from investors, national foundations and the national media since Obama held the first of several of his "Winning the Future Forums on Small Business" at Cleveland State University on Tuesday. "They're all trying to figure out the same thing," Leach said. "National foundations have reached out to us to see what's going on in Cleveland. The exposure is already beginning to deliver." http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2011/02/cleveland_attracts_national_in.html
