Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
Oooo, I like that too. We've had trouble with water features here before but I'd still like to incorporate one. I think it could work, I also think it would be very innovative, an attraction that would draw people, and nice area to relax.

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
^ I think that in that sense that even the parks you listed cant be compared because the mall is such a unique place since it is surrounded by mostly all government buildings facing the opposite direction. A new formula will need to be created to work with what we have In addition to its size and the fact that it is a roof and needs to be elevated. What if we designed some sort of waterfall to cover the walls of the elevated land?

Basketball no, but unless google satellite view is wrong, across the street to the south of grant park are 16 baseball diamonds, 6 tennis courts, and 2 sand volleyball courts. There are also 12 more tennis courts just east of millenium park. Thank you. As I said earlier, how can you compare a LARGE planned city park like grant park to the mall? It's totally irrelevant shouldn't be apart of this conversation. The mall should be compared to NY's city hall park, DC Lafayette park/Elipse, Houston's Sam Houston Park, San Franciscos Union Square or Brooklyn's Cadman Plaza. It wasn't necessary comparing it. Comparing it in the wrong way would be saying that we should have all the things it has which makes no sense because it is clearly not the same thing or size. But I think making an observation that a park of its stature does not choose to have basketball courts is reasonable.

^^ Just saying even a park of that size chooses to exclude basketball courts.

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
I think the fact that Chicago's Grant Park has ZERO basketball courts(to my knowledge) in an area that is much much larger than our Malls shows that basketball courts aren't necessarily the best idea.

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
^ Basketball courts, a lot of the time, seem to draw large groups of teenagers, of all races, which often perform bad behavior such as swearing, fighting, and loudness which is a negative thing in a setting that the mall is trying to create. There are clearly better locations in the city for basketbal courts.

Excellent points, and please no chain link fences! That would be so out of place

Cleveland: Downtown: Mall Development and News
sounds like the people on Cleveland.com, worried that this would be a draw for black and or thugs, since many think the two are interchangeable. If I said tennis or miniature golf court, would the same amount of hate be written? Better yet would it even be up for discussion. Granted I think many of those comments are by people who do not live in the city center or know anything about urban living/neighborhoods. No need for insult. And especially trying to call me racist, which I am far from. Ive been to mostly white basketball courts and just hear swearing and bad behavior including fights. Its nothing to do with race, its just what teenagers do, of all races.

But would basketball courts draw large groups of teenagers hanging out at and swearing that would turn people off especially families? We want it to become a family friendly environment. Im not saying basketball courts would automatically be bad, but it does have the potential to be. Tennis courts would be less of a problem but then again, how often would they actually be used?

Look like they are at least thinking about a pedestrian bridge to the lake Cleveland Planning Commission approves medical mart, calls for vibrant downtown mall MMPI will spend about $20 million on the mall's surface, and the plan presented Friday by LMN Architects and Gustafson Guthrie Nichol, both of Seattle, included basics like concrete sidewalks, 120 steel benches and dense rows of American Elm trees. Commission members discussed adding a volleyball or basketball court to the northwest corner of Mall C, and questioned whether barbecue pits were a smart idea... http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/01/cleveland_planning_commission_1.html

Just a question about global moderators. You said you like to make it proportional. I was was wondering about why out of the 16 Global Moderators there are 4 in Columbus 7 in Cincinnati 4 in Cleveland 1 in Illinois That doesn't seem proportional to me. Maybe things got messed up when the forum grew but maybe it should be fixed now?

^nice lol Why give up such prime land? I would have loved to see that developed. Its in such a unique area with only amenities that it can provide with its convenience to everywhere in cleveland and to all 3 rail lines. What a shame.

Holy crap, take a look at the available real estate south of the East 79th station. If the city/developer could get a hold of the whole property you could definitely get an awesome development, its like starting new. Do streetview http://tinyurl.com/4zewn4y Wow its almost perfect, I just realized it is positioned right between the green/blue lines and the red line. Cant have better access to public transportation then that. 11 minutes away from downtown by car, 14 by train 11 minutes away from Steelyard Commons by car 11 minutes away from westside market by car, 21 by train 6 minutes away from Cleveland Clinic by car 10 minutes to Little Italy by car, 13 by train 7 minutes from Shaker Square by car, 12 by train 5 minutes to freeway Access to everything in University Circle Everything

Thanks a lot KJP! Thats what I feel about our rapid system, its underutilized. Even with the shrinking population, I feel that we are able to increase ridership, simply, but difficultly, developing around the tracks. Whats the stations with the highest ridership? I would guess the airport of course, but for the green and blue, I would guess shaker square because of the development around it, and maybe green because of the large parking lot and its proximity to neighborhoods. And mass transit doesn't have to be for the poor, which some believe, it can be greatly utilized by high wealth individuals if they are given an efficient neighborhood option to live in near transit.

Why are most of our rapid transit lines secluded from the surrounding areas? I feel like if we built neighborhoods surrounding the rails we would see ridership go up and reinvestment in surrounding areas. Imagine developing like this all along a rail line.
