  1. Although I'm not sure how ridership is, I'm sure he rode on a Sunday. He skipped over the "day and date?" portion of a question that he responded to. Only gave the time of day and said the 7 riders were tourists or people taking kids for a train ride. Sounds like a Sunday to me
  2. Young people want to drive cars, invest in sound systems, and never take public transit. This is also an accurate statement. Unfortunately more young people have this mindset than your statement (which I wish was true) More young people want to live in the suburbs than live in the "ghetto!" city (also unfortunate) More young people want to live in cities than previous generations, but they are still a small portion of their generation.
  3. It reminds me of the art that cities started adding in the 80's/90's? I hate 90's urban art! Someone can probably put an actual name to this style of art but it popped up in a lot of public projects such as train stations. Not the best example, but one in gateway http://goo.gl/maps/vqKBw Edit: A lot of wall murals in cities are also this style. Again not perfect example Or just look at the first floor of the new library wing downtown. Look below the West 117th Rapid station. There's a nice mural under there that's even lit up at night. Have any pictures? This is sort of a perfect picture for what I was trying to explain. I believe it is in East Cleveland. (Im not saying it is terrible, and do not want to offend the artist, it is just not my particular style)

I doubt you'll need a reservation on a Sunday, but it is a rather small space and it can't hurt to make one. We've only made reservations when going in a larger group. If I could make another suggestion..... if you can do it, go on Friday or Saturday. The ambience of LI is not in full throttle on Sunday. It won't be empty, but it won't feel quite so alive. LI never gets rowdy, so it will be laid back no matter how much foot traffic there is. But if you go on one of the other days, you might, for instance, get the added perks of street performers (possibly) Great suggestions Hts121! I agree about Friday or Saturday nights. Its amazing how good the foot traffic is, and you are more likely to hear music on the street, which adds to the scene. Id would recommend walking Mayfield from the Park(which surprisingly is crowded even late at night) to Fairview and then cross and walk back. It really is a nice walk and you pass by all the other restaurants and patios and hear different music. If you have to go sunday, it will still be nice. Little Italy has to be the most active part of the city on Sunday, although not as active as it is Friday or Saturday night but still nice. Id recommend that you start with a nice walk and then choose a restaurant. After dinner you could then get some dessert from Prestis, possibly sit outside or in the front window spot. After that if you are still feeling it, Id recommend walking over to that new winebar. It is really nice in there and when I was there, two guys were there, one playing the piano/singing, and the other one playing some horn instrument(cant remember what). It was very nice.
  9. Would the comparison of the Economically Disadvantaged children performance work better since they are the group that tends to have tougher experiences with school?
  10. How much is payroll up?
  11. You don't need to buy a new car though.
  12. Talking about the success of John Hay is great. We should talk about it even more. But comparing it to suburban schools is what I found kind of silly. Suburban schools by far beat out Cleveland city schools. IMO that tweet implies that is not the case, and comes off as snarky, urbanist propaganda. (And I love cities and dislike suburbs/low density) John Hay School of Science and Medicine requires you maintain a 3.0 GPA or you are gone. John Hay School of Architecture and Design requires you maintain a 3.0 GPA as well. John Hay Early College High School, the highest performing school of the three, requires a 3.5 GPA. Comparing these schools does not work.
  13. ^ In case there was any confusion I don't think you posting it was silly. My comment was directed towards rustwire's spin on it "The highest rated school in the whole Cleveland region is a Cleveland Public School, not a suburban school"
  14. John Hay has high ratings because you have to maintain a high GPA to stay in the school(3.00 or 3.25 If I remember correctly). I like this a lot, and if Cleveland wants to become more attractive I think they should use this model more. Have several elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools with this model. I dont believe there are any suburban schools that follow this model. They will always have the struggling kids bring down their ratings, which are still high. That is something John Hay doesnt have to worry about. You are more likely to see schools like Glenville in Cleveland than schools like John Hay Glenville: 53.0% of students graduated in 4 years.......................................................F Performance Index 54.5%...D Indicators Met 0.0%...F
  15. Unfortunately that's the exception, not the rule, so that's kind of a silly post. I love John Hay btw. It has been doing great things.
  16. We don't see the same levels of pollution as we used to so I think it should be fine.

I signed up somewhere you had to slide a bar over(Like on an iphone lock screen) to prove that you were human. That might be helpful.
  18. For third month straight, Greater Cleveland leads metro areas nationally in job loss CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the third month in a row, Greater Cleveland led the nation with the most jobs lost in a metro area, the Labor Department reported Wednesday. The Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor metro area had the largest decrease in employment, with 4,500 fewer jobs in July 2013 compared with July 2012. Cleveland was also the only one of 37 metro areas, with average employment levels above 750,000 in 2012, to see a percentage decrease in employment. Employment here dropped by 0.4 percent. "All in all, this is an extremely disappointing employment report for Cleveland," said George Zeller of Cleveland, an economic research analyst. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/08/for_third_month_straight_great.html
  19. Cleveland police investigate after man found dead in Ohio City CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland police are investigating a homicide after a male was found dead in the backseat of a vehicle in the Ohio City neighborhood. Officers located the body at about 12:00 a.m. Wednesday on W. 44th Street near John Avenue. The victim was taken to the Cuyahoga County medical examiner for identification, authorities said. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/08/cleveland_police_investigate_a.html Reward for information in downtown Cleveland murder of mother of four Aliza Sherman now at $50,000 CLEVELAND - The daughter of murder victim Aliza Sherman announced Tuesday that the reward for information leading to an arrest is now up to $50,000. “My mother deserves justice and the monsters who killed her must be found and held accountable,” Jennifer Sherman said. Prior to Tuesday’s announcement, the reward, offered through Cuyahoga County Crime Stoppers, was $25,000. “We’re still actively investigating the case,” said Deputy Chief Ed Tomba of the Cleveland Police. Tomba said they haven’t received any credible leads in the case, but he’s hopeful that the bigger reward will help investigators make progress. 20. Progress. This picture makes me want Cleveland to have some residential towers with balconies.
  21. I was stopped at a light when I looked over and said "holy sh!t"!!! I was not expecting to see this much of the building cleaned.
  22. I feel so alive!! Hahahah!
  23. ^West side all day
  24. Thanks for the response. I have not had the opportunity to ride YET, but does that 5 minutes account for slow down speed to stop at a station, and then the time it takes to accelerate? And good points. I was just wondering what kind of speed could be gained if you only hit the bigger cities.
  25. Great pictures! Thanks for posting. I really liked the Cincinnati shots.
