Wouldnt the new building change the perceived safety of the walk, making the south garage much "closer" to the action. You just cross one street and are able to walk into the building and through to euclid avenue

How is CSU doing anything negative to the commuters? How are they ignoring their needs? They have built new garages, making parking more secure, and protects car from the weather and saves students from having to clear ice and snow off of their cars. Commuters and Residents can coexist. That is how CSU can be unique. Adding residential is great for people out of the area and people who want it, and want to live downtown. But due to its urban location, it will always have a large base of commuters. Therefor CSU is in a greater position for growth than a Kent or BGSU, since the commuter population is in place, and now they are working on residential which seems to be popular and demand is growing. Rural schools have the residential base already established and only have so many commuters to pull from. So if CSU can attract a residential population of Kent, and keep their commuter population, the school would be well off, and their would be amazing benefits to the city.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Our Offensive Line continues to be terrible. Those guys cant even block on special teams. I do like what I am seeing from Colt McCoy though. He looked really good yesterday. Weedon did struggle. And Seneca Wallace continues to suck, and I hope he gets cut. The guy doesn't appear to be a good teammate either. Colt McCoy Passing 18 for 24, 75%, 234 Yds, 9.75 Avg, 1 TD, 0 Int, 4 Sck, QBRate 116.6, 0 Fumbles Rushing 3 Att, 29 Yds, 9.66 Avg Brandon Weeden Passing 24 for 49, 49%, 297 Yds, 6 Avg, 0 TD, 1 Int, 4 Sck, QBRate 53.23, 3 Fumbles Rushing 0 Att, 0 Yds, 0 Avg

New PNC and 668 dont do much for the street at streetlevel. 668 had great potential but they leased it out to an office who just has a fake hallway in the window.

Black Dog has made themselves far more visible than MP, with the huge black dog, and words, painted on their "Storefront" Also surprisingly enough, I always seem to see good food traffic down East 8th street, which I find kind of odd.

Anyone know how the apartment leasing is going? Also, are all the retail spots accounted for?

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
Grant Thornthon has been looking to move for months now and has been considering several different locations and deciding which location worked best for them. That makes me believe it is the other way around. Forest City knew Grant Thornton was leaving so they decided that they would entertain the possibility of residential conversion.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
An excerpt of A Message from the President "Demolition of Viking Hall will commence this semester and construction of a $45 million Center for Innovations in Health Professions will commence. Work will continue on the North Campus. Student demand to live in the residence halls this year reached an all-time high, with all facilities sold out well before the start of classes. Stillwell Hall, the home of the Fenn College of Engineering, will receive a $13 million makeover with funds provided by the state. The Campus International School, which has doubled in size to meet the demand for admission, has moved into the Cole Center. The renovation of the Union Building at 1836 Euclid is nearly complete, preserving an historic structure and providing a temporary home for the NEOMED campus and permanent new facility for administrative units currently leasing space in the Keith Building."

I went to J.B. Mack for the first time today for lunch. Just got the original macaroni and cheese bread bowl, or whatever they call it. I have to say, it was really good. Im not much of a macaroni and cheese person, but I was definitely impressed. I will definitely return. Has anybody else tried it out yet?

Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
Also some good news. The Campus International School has doubled in size to meet the demand for admission, and has moved into the Cole Center. Also... YMCA of Greater Cleveland, Old Stone Church partner to form new preschool in downtown Cleveland CLEVELAND - The YMCA of Greater Cleveland and the Old Stone Church will partner to form a new preschool in downtown Cleveland. The preschool will be located in the Old Stone Center which is connected to the historic Old Stone Church. Rev. Dr. Mark Giuliano, Senior Pastor of the Old Stone Church, said "part of the whole idea of having a preschool on Public Square was to encourage more people to live downtown or to stay downtown longer." The school will serve 55 students Monday through Friday and is scheduled to open near the end of September. Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
I really like the John Hay Highschool system and am glad Cleveland has something like that. It at least gives a place for students who actually want to learn, a place to do so, without the distractions of the kids who dont care. Of course it cant be done large scale, but one or two high schools like it in the system helps tremendously. Does any middle school like that exist in the city? I think it would be a great way to attract families into the city as well by having top rated elementary, middle, and high schools within the system. Even though the other schools would still have bad ratings due to more complicated issues, they would atleast know their child would be able to get a high quality education. John Hay Highschool Ohio Report Card scores blow away every other school I have seen. The quality of education their seems incredible, especially for a school which I believe is almost all low income and minority. For Urban Education as a whole, I think it has been interesting what they have been doing in Harlem with the Promise Academy(HCZ Project), which has seen amazing results, for an area that really need it. http://www.hcz.org/our-results

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
Even though I think students are a huge part of making a school what it is, the reports can also show you how well the teachers are in some cases. For example Eastlake North and Willoughby South are in the same school district. They aren't that far apart location-wise but Willoughby South does have a slightly higher percentage of students below the poverty line, and slightly more minorities. Keep that in mind. Having family members who have gone/go to north, as well as myself, I know that Eastlake North has a terrible group of science teachers, and just an average group of social studies teachers(many football coaches). North and South have a pretty similar percentage of students at and above the proficient level in the Ohio Graduation Test(OGT) in tenth grade in the subjects of Reading, Math, and Writing, all in the 90% or above range. For Science though, Willoughby South is at 90.6%, while Eastlake North is at 78.1% For Social Studies, Willougby South is at 92.6%, while Eatlake North is at 84.5% And while I dont know the quality of the science teachers at South, I DO know how terrible they are at North. One can assume that based on the ratings in this instance, you can see that the science teachers at south are far better than the science teachers at north, and that the science teachers at north are hurting the students, and therefor lowering their science proficiency levels. So I dont agree with you that "the state ratings system is a mostly asinine way of judging schools/districts. They tell us nothing about the schools themselves"
