  6. I guess it fits this thread better. I see several buildings that could be possibly converted into apartments. Cuyahoga County details plan to secure 225,000-square-foot headquarters and sell 13 properties CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cuyahoga County will shake up the real estate market Monday, seeking new headquarters space in downtown Cleveland and listing 13 properties -- including 1.4 million square feet in or near the central business district -- for sale. The county's long-awaited request for proposals, a document soliciting bids from property owners and developers, heralds deals that might reshape parts of downtown Cleveland and revive vacant or little-used buildings with apartments, new offices, hotels or restaurants. And it marks a change in strategy for a government entity that historically sold real estate based solely on price -- without considering factors such as economic development, environmental issues, community impact or long-term tax generation. Requiring 225,000 square feet of downtown office space, the county is one of the largest potential users to hit the market in years. The headquarters deal would involve more than 700 people, moving from the county's administration building, an auto title building on Superior Avenue and a handful of leased spaces downtown and on the west bank of the Flats. For its new headquarters, the county is open to leasing or buying, in an existing building or at new construction, a representative of the CBRE Group Inc. real estate brokerage said during a Cuyahoga County Council committee meeting today. The brokerage, with help from the Chartwell Group and consulting firm Ariel Ventures, is representing the county in its consolidation and sale efforts. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/07/cuyahoga_county_reveals_plan_t.html

  8. By the looks of the real photo, it doesn't look like there will be any windows fronting Main (vs. as it's depicted on website). http://www.sierraus.com/commercial/office-retail-property-flats-east-bank-cleveland/ Here is a rendering I posted awhile back. It appears to match both the real picture and the other rendering posted above.
  9. Phil Dawson alone wins 3 or 4 games a year. No way the Browns are only going to be 1-15
  10. Still my favorite quote from Cleveland.com "The medical mart will never be built!" Said by almost everyone on that website.
  11. Wait, so they are demolishing every other one which basically creates separate houses?
  12. I wonder what this is all about
  13. thats the best rendering that shows how it will interact with main. And 380,000 works? Thats more like the city population!
  14. Im not sure if its good for the cleveland police, but its GREAT for the city.

You have a patio for the hardrock cafe right below that second set of awnings, and right around the left corner is the entrance to the ritz carlton, and a large entrance to Tower City. It not the best, but its not bad. The Macys in Cincinnati is like the Higbee building in Cleveland, where you have a large block of the wall. I prefer downtown department store buildings like May Company, since they are in the center of the block, without major side frontage to the street.

Uh, what? You call that one block of Macy's a dead zone? Even though it's across the street from other retailers, restaurants, hotels, and a Walgreens/CVS combo? The Cincinnati Convention Center is not one block long and thus not comparable. Conversely, the Macy's "dead-zone" you speak of isn't even close to the "dead-zone" of Tower City on Huron or Prospect. That's just ridiculous. I agree that entire terminal tower complex has many deadzones, and I have complained about it alot on here. But, Tower City the mall, does not. Thats why I mentioned the post office. Horrible interaction. Same for the Landmark office buildings. Also me saying this does not scream pedestrian friendly makes a lot more sense than calling Tower City dead.

I think 515 is full now
  18. ClevelandOhio replied to a post in a topic in City Discussion
There aren't many vacancies, and the mall always seems to be crowded when im there. Its not like you walk in and your the only one there. And Tower City is designed well, as it does not create pedestrian deadzones. For example, walking along Macys on West 5th or Race is about as bad as walking along the Cincinnati Convention Center. For Clevelanders, thats like walking along the pld Post Office downtown.

Oh privy to top secret info? DO share! There is a whole thread of discussion about it.
  20. So basically Euclid Avenue from East of East 9th Street to Euclid Avenue and East 18th Street.

Without Tower City, I truly see downtown having basically no retail. The stores weren't on the streets before, and they wont be after. And there is a possibility for Tower City to improve. I personally dont think its getting worse. Its not anywhere close to Richmond Mall bad. I agree that the Galleria is not good for downtown, and that is basically dead, or finding new life as something different. Tower City is not your average mall. And besides, I still rather have that than a dying old department store that will go out of business by the next census. Department stores arent doing as good as they used to, even in suburban locations. I would like to know how many people on here actually shop at department stores regularly. I for one, do not.

Just wondering, what stores, if any, left the streets for Tower City when it first opened?
  23. ClevelandOhio replied to a post in a topic in City Discussion
I agree. Pittsburgh has a Department Store and no retail. We have retail in Tower City, but no Department Store. I prefer the multiple options of retail, a possibly improving selection, over an aging department store that isnt in good shape, and is surrounded by crap. I think certain retailers are drawn to a mall, while others prefer the street. Without Tower City, I doubt any, or very few, of those stores would be located along our streets. Also I believe the Galleria compares to other downtown malls that have failed or are failing. Mostly standalone building. Tower City on the other hand is part of a huge complex, housing two hotels, several office buildings, RTA, and a Movie Theater. It has way more reasons to be successful than a regular mall downtown. Thats why Tower City is doing fine, and the Galleria probably would have failed either way, even if Tower City was never built. I would rather have Tower City. This is only because Higbees would most likely be in the state of other downtown department stores, facing a slow painful death, where the interior gets worn, the customers are less frequent, and the number floors in continually decreased. Eventually it would die and we would be left with nothing. I look at Macys in Pittsburgh, and I wouldn't want that for Higbees. Now if this was a different world, and America never changed, I would 100% prefer Higbees at its best. Unfortunately that is not the case, so that is why I prefer Tower City.
  24. I wouldnt call that Strip Center dumpy or dying. It has an Old Navy, Marshalls, Panera Bread, Sallys Beauty Supply, Marcs!, and Pets Supply Plus. I dont know what else is in there. And atleast he got the location closest to the street. I also think he is on the right side of town. If he went by 615, that would be a good distance from the rest of Lake County, and be in a much more sprawly area. Im still wishing he would have chosen DTW. I dont think this will hurt CH business at all. Hopefully it will help the wait slightly, but I doubt even that will occur.
