  1. This should be taken out of Complete Projects. Peter Anagnostos will head the $50 million-plus campaign to expand and renovate the Cleveland Museum of Natural History The Cleveland Museum of Natural History never abandoned plans for an ambitious expansion and renovation during the 2008 recession. Instead it slowed the project until the economic climate improved. Now, after four years and the appointment of a new director, particle physicist Evalyn Gates, the museum is jumping back into the highly competitive world of raising big bucks for a big cultural project in University Circle. That’s why it’s announcing it has hired veteran fundraiser Peter Anagnostos of Shaker Heights to head a capital campaign that could run $50 million or higher. http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2012/06/peter_anagnostos_will_head_the.html
  2. This is very old, so it mentions Lebron slightly.
  3. I really hope the Truman Building uses Barn court for a parking garage entrance and not one of the storefronts. The planning commission needs to push that.
  4. Nice shots. Thanks for sharing. I really like seeing the terminal tower completely lit up like that. I would love to see that occur more often!
  5. 2187 Murray Hill? I wish!
  6. I forgot that I actually made a more detailed neighborhood population map for Cleveland. Its not finished yet. I have the information, but still need to add it all the the map. Anyways here it is. So this is some of what Tower City's customers will be http://goo.gl/maps/0apR
  7. Thanks for finding the link and for the kind words. It has been discussed in several threads and I couldn't remember which ones.
  8. Where did you get the 7,000, when every estimate I've read has the population between 10,000 and 11,500? (and that doesn't count the 8-9,000 in Ohio City, which is practically a downtown neighborhood) Remove prison population and homeless shelter population. And the remaining number is around 7000 which still includes section 8 housing which isnt the population those retailers are going after. I have more specific numbers elsewhere on this website.
  9. Yeah this one gives a good perspective.
  10. Anyone know what this is about? Ordinance No. xxx-12(Ward 9/Councilmember Conwell): Concerning the sale of air rights at 1641 East 118th Street. Edit: Nevermind, its what I originally thought. Googemaps just had the wrong location. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/03/wxz_development_plans_30_apart.html
  11. Ordinance No. 275-12(Ward 3/Councilmember Cimperman): Changing the Use District of land located on the southeast corner of Bridge Avenue and West 30th Street from Two Family to Local Retail (for Heck’s expansion). I dont know where the expansion would be unless they demolish that house over there, which I hope isnt the case.
  12. As I said before, downtowns population of around 7000 cannot support any of these stores alone. To suceed, this mall needs to attract people from the cities neighborhoods, tourists, and mainly people from the suburbs. The casino helps bring those people in, so do other events, such as sporting events. Downtown workers can stay afterwork and shop. But the main supporters of this mall won't be the people living downtown, and the retailers know it.
  13. Euclid was basically shut down at the time so that may represent riders that would have taken the 6 in '06 and the Healthline in '08. Still seems a bit high. And JMasek reports that the red line has had it highest ridership every month since like 1988, which is true, unless you include 2007. So he must be ignoring 2007 numbers for some reason. Something just seems off that year.
  14. Looks like they are opening a new restuarant named Accent. Not moving Sasa. And that spot in the picture is Accent. EDIT: Straphanger beat me to it.
  15. So they basically just lied to RTA and violated the contract, which they would have never gotten if they would have told the truth about the machines? That should make the contract void, RTA should just walk away, sue them for the 2 million they paid for them, and find a completely new vendor. Clearly this one is a piece a sh!t and has been hard to work with the entire time. Even from the getgo the machines were late an entire month. Its been bad since day one.
  16. Some key parts of the article RTA, Xerox closer to solving problems with ticket machines along rapid lines Fixes for the devices along the Red Line and HealthLine should roll out in the next month or two, RTA General Manager Joe Calabrese said in a recent interview. Improvements include simpler, on-screen directions for using the red-and-gray machines, which drive many riders to distraction. More than 70 percent of the devices show signs of corrosion. Xerox agreed the machines weren't made of non-rusting steel, as required in the contract, according to Calabrese. Among other problems, key pads on the machines are failing prematurely, Calabrese said. RTA expects those to be fixed or replaced with better units, under the contract warranty. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2012/06/post_33.html
  17. Was there a problem with ridership counting/reporting in 2007? There is no way red line ridership went from 459,900 in march of 2006, to 815,600 in march of 2007, and back down to 478,900 in march of 2008.
  18. Thanks for the picture updates. And I knew that boutique's name sounded familiar. Its currently in Little Italy. Too bad its most likely just moving, creating an empty space nearby. Should probably get more traffic though.
  19. Great pictures. Its really coming along. The library has the best views of the mall. Especially the special collections wing in the original building!
  20. ^ Makes it even better! Unfortunately, as much as we want this, I doubt it will happen anytime soon.
  21. ^ And those are right next to Footlocker
