Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Cleveland's unique offer: $5K discount on new town home if you volunteer in the community CLEVELAND - Developer Michael DeCesare and his wife Nancy have come up with a unique way to get new Cleveland home buyers to get involved in their communities. DeCesare is calling the concept the "Shoreway Vision Program," giving buyers of his new town houses a $5,000 discount on the purchase price, if they give at least 40 volunteer hours to their community. DeCesare made the offer available at his "Town Houses at Courtland" project on West 54th in Cleveland, and he's now extending the discount to his new "Waverly Station" project, at West 58th and Bridge Avenue. "There's always been incentives to purchase," said DeCesare. "Nobody has ever heard of an incentive to purchase that requires you to give back time in your community." The offer has sparked plenty of interest in the 22-unit Waverly Station project. Construction at the site has not yet started, but already, all but three units have been bought up in the project's first phase. Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
Jump to the bottom of the article Cleveland developers win tax credits to bring 111 apartments downtown; Kent project also funded Brian Intihar of CRM said the company also plans to convert the Chester Commons Building, at 1120 Chester Ave., into 36 apartments over retail. And the developer just reworked its plans for the Schofield Building, at the southwest corner of East Ninth Street and Euclid, to include more apartments. The historic building, which won Ohio historic preservation tax credits in 2010, still will include a Kimpton Hotel. But a financing deal for the project fell apart. The developer recently redesigned the building with more housing and less hotel space, to get traction with lenders. Intihar would not share details about the project, adding that CRM might be able to say more in a month or so. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/06/cleveland_developers_win_prese.html

Moving to East Blvd. in Cleveland
That stretch of East Blvd where your house is located is pretty safe. In the past 3 months, there has not even been once reported crime. East Blvd as a whole also has very good stats. Only 3 minor, non violent crimes on the northern end of the street and a few others in those ugly buildings just north of Wade Park, nothing serious though. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new house! And for the neighborhood to the East of you, most of the violent crime is domestic violence. So again, nothing that would really involve you.

You also have the one by Cleveland State. And the same can be said for it, "alright...but not great." And I have had a few weird experiences there.

^ Well thats confusing If Cadillac Ranch was closing wouldn't they be taking it down, not covering it up?

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
Thats cool thats its finally official. For this thread, I think it could probably remain in the other steelyard commons one, unless that one is in completed projects. Thanks for sharing though. Good news!

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
I agree because the toy store used the same entrance structure when it was there. Some place wants to construct their own storefront probably, so that might be a good sign its something good.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
So between Public Square and East 6th, in the last several months, and near future, we added a Chipotle, Gumbo?, Potbelly, Hodges, Colossal Cupcakes, Cleveland Clothing Company, Visitors Center, NoodleCat, and Zoup. I think we see this progress continue to spread.

You are awesome. Thanks! Im glad to see something finally go into the bang and clatter storefront as well. This is better than I originally thought! Two less vacant, highly visible storefronts!

Bonus pic of a BRT vehicle with some color. Not the best color IMO. Just to clarify so no one gets confused, this is not in Cleveland

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
People talk about a conversion of the healthline to a streetcar line a lot. I looked at the stations, and most seem to be about 95 feet long, besides the ones downtown, which are slightly over 55 feet. The bus only lanes are about 10 feet wide. Modern Articulated Streetcar Length: 66 feet Width: 8 feet Capacity: 156 passengers; 30 seated, 127 standing Healthline BRT Vehicles hold 100 total. I believe they are often over capacity. Im not sure if the station platform heights are the same for BRT and Streetcars, but they appear to be(highly unscientific) ha! So if an upgrade to streetcars was needed, I think our BRT infrastructure works perfectly, and was probably designed to do so. The platform lengths are long enough for the longer streetcar vehicles. Even for the shorter downtown ones it would work, because only the doors have to measure of with the platform, not the entire vehicle. With the stations already in place, we would need the rail, electrical, and vehicles. Still expensive, but slightly less. Anyone know how much a conversion would probably cost?

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
They don't own it, that building sold last year for ~$375,000 IIRC I remember seeing this article last year. Did something change? MRN Ltd. buys building on Prospect Avenue that's home to Volk's Jewelry http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20110103/FREE/110109976

Agreed. Although I hope you return sooner, in a few years you will be able to get on the healthline, take it to University Circle, then from there walk to the new Mayfield Road Red Line station, pass the new University Circle station, and take the line back into Tower City downtown. Those two new stations once constructed will be great additions to the system, and we will probably have the intervals back down to 15 minutes. Hopefully even less!

I really hope MRN plans to do something with the Volks building soon. Its not looking so good, and a restored storefront would really make that area look better, and continue the progress of East 4th down Prospect.
