1. When are they going to start construction on the two University Circle rapid stations?
2. ClevelandOhio in Pittsburgh - Part 1: River tour ClevelandOhio in Pittsburgh - Part 2: Incline and Downtown ClevelandOhio in Pittsburgh - Part 3: Oakland and Carson Street So I just returned from Pittsburgh. Had a great time! The area pittsburgh is located in is incredible, and definitly different from what im used to...flat! Pittsburgh had some amazing things, thats hard not to be jealous of, but it also made me appreciate certain aspects of Cleveland even more. Pittsburgh: Although a geographically smaller downtown than Cleveland, pittsburgh has a much larger feel, due to thinner, criss crossing streets. Mount Washington was an awesome sight from downtown, seeing the houses, apartments, churches, and restaurants above. Its also provided amazing views of downtown. Their subway was great! Got us around quick and for free(even though we had free passes). Their stations and trains were very clean, in great shape, and we never had to wait longer than 2 minutes which was a nice change...;). A very nice transit experience, sorry RTA... but tt was far nicer and smoother than ours There seemed to be more foot traffic, and downtown as a whole seemed to stay alive longer than in Cleveland I saw alot more tourists than I do here. They definitly added to the evening crowds, used the subway, and were up on Mount Washington via the inclines. Oh, and the subway had great ridership everytime we went on. A double decker bus tour is better than a trolley tour. The view from the top deck is a great perspective, one that cannot be seen in a roof inclosed vehicle Carson street...nothing like that here Awesome rivers and bridges of course I love the thin streets, compared to the large wide avenues here Architecture, and amount of it No extremely large parking lots in the middle of downtown Market Square was nice Im not going to list everything that makes Cleveland great, but I will mention certain things that stood out. Cleveland: Cleveland has a much cleaner downtown, with less decay and grit University Circle blows away their University/Museum area I appreciate our anti cigarette laws at restaurants even more. We have way less cigarettes on the ground and outside our patios. We have less abandoned/decaying buildings downtown. But then again, possibly losed to parking lots, while theirs still sit waiting for redevelopment Pittsburgh had more "interesting" or "strange" people walking around, but we never saw or encountered any homeless or panhandlers which was nice. Our arcades and tower city are definitely something interesting that I didn't see in Pittsburgh West Side Market destroys anything they had over there. We dont have a furry convention. If you dont know what that is, you will after I post pictures. lol We have a better downtown food scene] I will try to add some more later. Being in pittsburgh gives me hope and ideas for many things that Cleveland can do to become even greater. I will add picture later tonight or possibly tomorrow. Was a great trip, and would recommend it to anybody who hasnt been there before, or in awhile. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ...
3. ^ If you were in charge of transportation, and funding for it ;), we would be far better off! HA!
4. Awesome, thanks! Cant wait to see this project finished and full of people!
5. As people have done on this website every single day...
6. People on here constantly bash people who are the opposite political party, or people who live in suburbs. Gottaplan makes a little scenario and all of the sudden everyone becomes sensitive? The people I have examples of are also real people and should be respected the same way you demand.
7. Awesome. Jackson has said previously that he wants it to be one large square. I do hope they come up with better designs than last time though.
8. Shelley Duncan could be a strong left fielder if given the starting position. Remember how strong of a start he had. Was leading the team for batting average and OBP. Third in the league for OBP for awhile. It all went downhill once they signed Johnny Damon and basically told Duncan he was losing his staring job, which was dumb to do to a guy is doing well and batting the best on the team. And once getting the job, he did good last year post all-star game. Post all-star he had .276 batting average, 10 doubles, 8 homers, and 27 RBI's. And he continued into this season doing good.
9. What efficiencies are gained by privatizing? A private company will need to turn a profit rather than break even. I find it hard to believe that a private company can get asphalt patch or fuel for mowers cheaper than the state. So where are the savings? From workers only being seasonal? I expect that it means minimum-wage, no-benefit, temporary workers, right? WRONG! ODOT worker typical day (PM me to find out how I know) 7:30: punch in, sit around & drink coffee & read the paper till 8:15. 8:15: head to the truck, load up tools, 8:30 leave garage to work site 8:50: unload tools, assess situation. 9:00 start work 10:15 coffee break 10:45 resume work 12:00 lunch break 12:30 resume work 2:45 stop work, start packing up tools 3:00 head back to garage 3:15 stop at convenience store for drinks/snacks 3:30 arrive at garage, unload tools 4:00 punch out. Often times the private contractors will pay higher hourly wage than what the ODOT worker gets, but much more is delivered in quantity of work. Private worker drives his own vehicle to the jobsite usually, starts working at 7am he goes home at the end of the day. The incentive is to work, make money, and keep working. There is no incentive at ODOT because they all have a job for life and they know it, so the only incentive is to barely do enough to not get caught sleeping on the job. Sounds like many city workers. Except missing the "pull over and take hour long nap in truck"
10. I like the idea of one large square, but I dont want it to be impossible enter and exit that square due to traffic around the square. I hate the current configuration, but am not sure what the best choice is.
11. I got some awesome pictures a few months ago focused around cleveland rail, streetcars, etc. They were part of some estate so I bought a few. They were pretty cheap. I bet KJP would like them.

My aunt used to live in one of those buildings and I remember walking up stairs in that three story building on the left side of this picture. There was a large ballroom that took up the whole floor if I remember correctly. Looked as if it hasn't been used in years. It was a very cool place. I think it is still empty today, and I think the door is always unlocked, so its not that hard to check it out.
13. To me, that defeats the purpose of having a rail station! why? I might just be missing your point. Can you explain?
14. I agree with that! Not the first part I deleted though ;)
15. But like Hts121 said,
16. I was just messing with you. Funny thing is that you were the first one to bite.
17. And d@mn, what the hell happend to this website? Its been 2 hours, and this thread has plenty of views, and no comments(other than mine)? Sure people will spend hours on here fighting over politics and trayvon martin, but wont even put the effort in to thank someone for taking the time to take pictures, upload them to flickr, photobucket etc, and then link them over to this site. I take the time to make crime statistics charts and am lucky to get one or two responses. It wasnt like that a couple years ago on here.
18. Wow, I hope she losses her battle. And thank god she is a democrat or some people on here would be saying some nasty things...
19. Thanks for the pictures. How did you think of edgewater?
20. Does any of the Cleveland Clinic shuttles run through Little Italy? If so, that could be useful once the mayfield road station is constructed.
21. This picture shows perfectly why Public Square sucks.
22. Im not saying this area should be developed as townhouses or like coltman27, but I did put this together just for fun to see how many units would fit. Based on this rough "rendering" I guess you could call it lol, I come up with about 54 units the size of coltman27. Im guessing it could hold about 80 Hazel8 style units.
23. Is the Woodhill Supply site completely vacant? I would love to see that ugly building get demolished and see that site completely redeveloped as residential
24. I wouldn't look into this too much. There is some terrible planning in that thing, and for what was built, Tony Brush Park, does not even follow those plans. Btw, I dont see a parking problem in Little Italy. I always find a great spot when I drive there. Its just a matter of knowing where to look.
