Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Potbelly Sandwich Shop to set up shop in downtown Cleveland A Potbelly Sandwich Shop is bound for 515 Euclid Ave. in downtown Cleveland by early June as the Chicago-based, 200-store chain starts to chomp into the Northeast Ohio food market. The chain, which offers handmade sandwiches and made-to-order salads, will employ about 25 people at its Cleveland store, said Potbelly spokeswoman Ann Aldrich. The company decorates its stores with local artifacts and offers live music at lunchtime to create a “hang out” atmosphere http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20120413/FREE/120419910

Cleveland: Retail News
I think the arcades would be perfect for shops like Room Service, Salty Not Sweet, and other local stores that could all work well together, and make it somewhat a destination. Make it Cleveland. It could also be a stop for tourists wanting a piece of Cleveland to take home with them.

Cleveland: League Park
I dont really see how this will drive massive amounts of private investment. Lets be honest with ourselves. Its basically just glorified community baseball fields on a historic lot. There is no 4000 seats as previously mentioned. Its in the middle of a neighborhood that is hurting. Take a look at the rendering again. I dont believe they will even draw any "weekend travel league tournaments starring teams from all over Ohio/Midwest." Those tournaments will probably go to a suburban location with multiple baseball fields, where parking is available, and crime isn't an issue. The bigger tournaments will go to places like Classic Park in Eastlake(Home to the Lake County Captains) where you actually get a stadium feel and lots of seating. Its nice for the residents of the neighborhood, but I truly dont see this as being some major economic driver that will be used from all over Ohio. Its one adult field and one little league field.

What is so bad about "75 percent of the vendors selected are Cleveland-based firms, and nearly 40 percent of the workforce is represented by unions." ?

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
This is going around. I added the bold ______________________________________________________________________________________ April 10, 2012 I want to take a moment to clarify some confusion about the Campus Village construction project. Several years ago, as part of Cleveland State's Master Plan, the University resolved to make the North Campus property available for private development. The goal was to promote local growth, increase the downtown residential population and stimulate an emerging campus neighborhood with residents affiliated and unaffiliated to the University. Because a publicly funded University cannot support private housing, CSU sought independent developers willing to invest in the area. After CSU issued a request for proposals, Polaris Real Estate Equities presented Cleveland State with a plan to build a private mixed-use development with their funding and under their management. To begin, Polaris competitively bid all of the construction work and awarded the jobs based on qualified companies with the lowest proposals. As a result of the bidding process, 75 percent of the vendors selected are Cleveland-based firms, and nearly 40 percent of the workforce is represented by unions. Cleveland State respects the right of groups and individuals to voice their concerns, but it is also important that the campus community is aware of all of the facts surrounding this issue. Driving down Chester Avenue, you can already see how the Campus Village is changing the local landscape. It is adding vitality to the neighborhood, fueling the local economy and driving additional development to the area. I look forward to the long-term benefits this project will provide for not just Cleveland State but for this entire area. Stephanie McHenry Vice President Business Affairs & Finance

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Playhouse Square has some momentum Cleveland State moving its arts program to the Middough Building and Allen Theater The Cleveland Playhouse moving to the Allen Theater Cowell and Hubbard Restaurant Soon to be apartments in the Hanna Annex Kent State Urban Design Collaborative relocation Some newly filled office space This part of downtown is a really neat place. I would love to see more foot traffic though. My Playhouse Square wishlist.. in no particular order... 1. More residents! The Hanna Annex is a great start and hopefully just the beginning. 2. Improved restaurant scene. Again Cowell and Hubbard is a great start! 3. Development of the John Hartness Brown Buildings, Truman Building, Cleveland Athletic Club Building will go a long way in increasing foot traffic and activity in the area. 4. Improved retail scene. This could be said for all of downtown though. 5. Development of the parking lot across from the Palace Theater. This alone could bring residents or workers into the area, while also bringing in retail/restuarants, and improving the connection to CSU and filling in the Euclid streetwall. 6. Id like to see more retail spaces along star plaza. Possibly restaurant patios as well. 7. Improved Huron Road. By this I mean, improved storefronts, possibly conversions to apartments(especially the Halle Garage), improved Halle Building street-frontage. Basically make Huron feel more connected and more a part of the district. 8. Some new Video Screens. Those current ones are getting a bit outdated.
