Small fire in Cleveland casino clears out workers, does little damage CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A small, smoky fire forced workers to leave the first floor of the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland Tuesday, a fire official said. A worker was welding part of the floor system about 5 p.m. when a spark dropped into the basement of the former Higbee's department store on Public Square, said Assistant Chief David McNeilly. The spark ignited a box holding pipe insulation, said McNeilly and casino spokeswoman Jennifer Kulczycki. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2012/02/post_564.html

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
Unfortunately it is, everything has been demolished for parking garages.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
I would love to see this Section of East 6th, and Vincent be converted in a great residential neighborhood. The fifth-third garage is the biggest roadblock to this dream, so I would love to see it demolished and rebuilt with storefronts and residential above.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
That would be awesome. Especially if they could bring back the original storefronts on the Garfield building.

Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
Id love for this to finally start. These building and this stretch of Euclid have great potential. Im not a fan of converting one of the storefronts into a parking entrance though, especially when there is access from the back of the buildings. Im not sure if that is still part of the plan. I hope not! Coupled with the Statler garage entrance, you get a long, pedestrian unfriendly stretch. I hope that idea has been dropped.

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
You're being way too polite. I love Cleveland so much. But along the Red Line the aesthetic message our city sends is "Welcome to the ugliest place in America." I found this really funny. Thanks for the laugh.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
Saw this on Facebook. Via Jennifer Coleman: For you folks interested in the proposal to convert several floors of the May Co. bldg into a parking garage, here's an update: This project was presented in Downtown/Flats Design Review Cmte this morning. The project was so incomplete in key details such as: 1. No discussion with the Ohio State Preservation Office was initiated (the building is a Federal Landmark); 2. A traffic study is absolutely needed to determine the vehicular impact onto Prospect Ave.; 3. The effect of exposing the terracotta & window framing to exterior conditions was not studied 4. The entry into the garage & new ramps inside as presented were problematic. The committee also stated that having the historical windows removed on floors 2-5 is unacceptable and ideally the bays facing both Euclid & Prospect should be office/residential. The project was tabled until more discussion with the OHPO and a traffic study is submitted to the city (both will take some time).

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
I still say redo public square and put a parking garage underneath it. Like Mall A. You gain alot of hidden parking spaces in the middle of downtown, next to the casino, and it could make other lots less desirable.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
^ Thats why they will have to build a skywalk from the May Company Building to East 4th street. And once there, the skywalk can then enter each restaurant separately. This way people can walk from the casino to east 4th without ever having to go into our 12 months of terrible weather, walk past our pedestrian unfriendly driveway street know as prospect, in which they had no part in creating, or ever have to walk on East 4th, allowing the city to open it up to vehicle traffic again! Perfect world! :-P
