  1. Cleveland left holding hundreds of bike grips after Gateway art project dies CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The fear of lawsuits has won out over public art in the Gateway district, leaving the city holding $23,000 worth of customized bike grips and no place to put them. Plans to bond nearly 600 of the handles, each with a lime-green streamer, above the city's slick, new bike station are dead. The reason - the Bike Rack on East Fourth Street is on the ground floor of a Gateway garage now owned by Rock Ohio Caesars Cleveland, LLC. Developers of the nearby casino don't want the risk that comes with some yahoo using the eye-catching handles to climb the side of the garage. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/10/cleveland_left_holding_23000_w.html
  2. Wow, great photos! I love Chicago. And the Hancock Buildings observation deck has to be one of the best in the world. Its view at night is amazing. Thanks for posting!
  3. Parts of downtown are still a dead zone after 5 p.m. I think it will be a long time till we can call midtown a 24/7 area. Not in our lifetimes. I just hope we can call downtown one, which I think is possible in the the next 15 years.
  4. ^ I like that idea. Would be nice if Cleveland had that on Googlemaps
  5. Then beachwood is also good cause they save companies from leaving the region. Just because this project is next to rail, doesn't really make it better then beachwood offices(which I hate). And there is no way in knowing if cleveland businesses won't move there or not. Change to offices to residential and this is some great TOD
  6. I dont like all the office space. This plan could possibly lure companies away from downtown.
  7. I'm glad Forest City isn't doing this project. If they were, we'd be seeing a Cheesecake Factory instead of a Jonathan Sawyer restaurant. Because of Ari Maron's work on East 4th and in Ohio City, he's developed some very good connections with Cleveland's young and unique entrepreneurs. I understand your point, but instead of Chipoltle and Panera, you may be seeing the Cheesecake Factory and PF Chang. Chipotle and Panera take up significantly less space than Cheesecake and PF Chang. And this project wouldn't be happening at all if it was forest city. I think Chipotle and Panera are actually a nice fit for the neighborhood. The college kids will be all over those places for a quick snack.
  8. Hahah thanks for reminding me, I just added it.
  9. Here Murray Hill, this is my best attempt at it. I know I am most likely missing something, and most likely something big. Ill take another look at this later. 10. I use it because it is convenient, gets me where I want to go, and most importantly, I love that they are free! The bus drivers are always friendly and nice to talk to. Also if someone was going to take a bus from Playhouse Square to Public Square, Id recommend the E line over the Healthline anyday. By the time the Healthline gets to the edge of downtown, It can be very hard, if not impossible to get on the bus. At times, the Healthline has got to be running at over capacity, which creates several safety risks, as well as makes it hard for people to get off at any stop other than public square.
  11. I like your old plan KJP. Its even better today with uptown.
  12. I want to know what ever happened with this.
  13. I dont know how things work, but did the owners of the building receive money for letting their building be used for the filming of the adventures. That money could have helped their financing slightly.
  14. Im not really a fan of the color purple that much, but I dont think it looks bad at the station. Makes it look new and more inviting in my opinion. I think one purple station is enough though. lol
  15. Id take a warehouse district full with apartments, condos, offices, and retail on those parking lots over a public square tower any day. It would have a way bigger impact then just an office tower.
  16. This could go in many threads, but ill post it here cause it fits, and was at the top of the list. Cleveland Indians will install wind turbine at Progressive Field The Cleveland Indians on Tuesday afternoon confirmed that they are working with Cleveland State University's Fenn College of Engineering to install a 15-foot-tall wind turbine at Progressive Field before next season. A report on the Natural Resources Defense Council's website said grants from the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of Ohio will “fully cover cost of the turbine and installation at Progressive Field.” Indians spokesman Curtis Danburg said the project has been in the works for a couple years. "It's another opportunity to partner with a Cleveland institution," Mr. Danburg said. "We've been an industry leader in the (sustainability) field, and this is an extension of that." http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20111011/FREE/111019957
  17. We use tax payers dollars to build the medical mart/convention center. $465 million worth. Also we build stadiums. I think it would be awesome if we could use public money to develop those parking lots. I think filling in those lots would benefit the city more than any stadium or medical mart!
  18. Looks like Bridge Avenue is getting repaved.
  19. Great shots! And you covered a good amount of ground. Thanks for sharing.
  20. Excellent shots! Thank you for posting. I wish they would open up those outside decks to the public. And at night!
  21. Glad to hear things are going relatively smooth. Thanks for the update!
  22. CSU has an intro to university life class required for freshman. They should teach about RTA in that class. Show them where you can go and what routes take you there.
  23. Would love to see some of this plan take shape. Its definitely old by the looks of it.
