Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Im not sure how confident I am about the medical mart anymore. Im happy we are getting a new convention center. After more information comes out and If the medical mart seems like its going to be a complete bust, I almost wish the money would be directed into more focus on the convention center and malls, and maybe rethink what will occupy the medical mart site. Its mostly too late for that now. For now I will hope for the best

I wonder if the hotel developers are getting worried with the news and confusion going on about the medical mart

Cleveland: Hotel Development
This is huge cause I remember reading awhile back that only like 100 rooms were usable and only like one elevator works as well. This will give the building some really needed TLC. And a new exterior is a plus. That building is ugly!

Cleveland: Little Italy Neighborhood Discussion
We had a discussion awhile back about the percentages of races in the neighborhoods. The information was from a census tract which also included sections outside of what we would would classify as Little Italy, therefore throwing off the numbers. Now with better information available, I decided to find the true information for the neighborhood Total Population = 2004 White = 1566 Black = 43 Asian = 395 Therefore... White = 78% Black = 2% Asian = 20% When looking at age, the majority are between the ages of 20 and 34. That group tends to lean more to the 25 to 34 range. There are still a good number of people above that range though.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
I posted the Plain Dealers version of this article in the random developments thread but this one has more information. Also, with so many new possible hotels, I think its time there is a thread dedicated to the topic. Joint venture plans $64 million makeover of Crowne Plaza in downtown Cleveland A joint venture of Sage Hospitality of Denver and Optima Management Co. of Miami this afternoon said it plans a $64 million renovation of the Crowne Plaza Cleveland City Centre hotel to convert it to a Westin hotel after buying the property on Wednesday. Sage, which will manage the hotel at 777 E. St. Clair Ave., said it will close the property in mid-November for the massive renovation and reopen it under the luxury Westin flag in July 2013. That timetable means the hotel should reopen shortly before the scheduled completion of the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center across East Sixth Street from the hotel. Ken Geist, executive vice president and partner of Sage, told a Cleveland City Council committee on Sept. 27 that the developers will remove its brick exterior. Architects have not yet decided how to redo the outside of the property. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20111006/FREE/111009906

Also by looking at those site plans, it appears the three buildings on the far left will be the first three to be built. This will make a huge difference though! http://maps.google.com/?ll=41.504865,-81.674745&spn=0.00417,0.009645&t=h&z=17&vpsrc=6

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I like that the one building will now be on East 21st instead of set backed. This does make it look like more parking than the original plan but As long as it is hidden its not so bad. Also, if the time ever comes, they could easily build another 3 buildings, one on each of those lots.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Great project! I would like to see a facade! One thing scared me though.... "Optima and Sage are still debating between an overhead bridge and an underground walkway between the hotel and the historic buildings" They better not f$&king put a bridge into the side of the Public Auditorium.
