  1. Actually, the UAE government is fronting the money and will own the hospital. The Clinic just runs it for them.
  2. The Clinic is relatively self-contained when it comes to food. Personally, I usually bring my lunch, but there are 2 Au Bon Pains, 3 cafeterias, Table 45, North Coast Cafe (a pretty good buffet place in the Intercontinental), McDonald's, Subway, a sushi place, and during the summer there's the farmer's market. Sometimes during the winter I'll go to the Souper Market on Carnegie, but usually when people in my department want food from somewhere else we just order it from Deliver Me Food. I would like to patronize the places listed above, but I usually just don't have the time to make the trip...
  3. I use Residential Security Systems, which is also local. A number of my neighbors do, too. The system is pretty cheap (~$25/month) and they can usually get to your house for maintenance within a day or so of the call. I've never had any complaints with them.
  4. That's all great to know. I thought 7100 Euclid (Baker Electric Building) was basically full, but apparently not.
  5. Minor point, but this building is the Reference Laboratory, not Innovations (which is a business incubator, I believe).
  6. Map of Thailand is going in the spot where Garden Cafe used to be, I believe. I got take-out from the Garden Cafe a few times and thought it was good, if a bit over-priced. Plus, I thought the owner was rude. Anyways, I'll have to try this new place out.
  7. A good friend of mine lives in one of the townhouses across the street from those homes. He moved in there a couple years ago and since he's been there 1 of the townhomes and 2 or 3 of the large homes have sold. However, none have sold in the last year or so. Hopefully the area will get more gentrified and maybe the new VA developments will help with that. I think a huge impediment to Heritage Lane is the condition of the immediate area. My friend has reported hearing gunshots from the Park Place apts behind his house on more than one occasion and there are occasional petty crimes reported (Famico sends out notices when they happen), but luckily nothing more serious than that. So, I think the neighborhood definitely has potential and both the townhouses and renovated homes are great. But, IMO, something's going to have to change in the surrounding area before things take off.
  8. Not sure if this is the most appropriate topic to post this under or if it has already been mentioned in another post, but I noticed this morning on my way to work that the old Eagle grocery store on Euclid adjacent to the Cleveland Playhouse is apparently (finally!) being razed. Does anyone know if the Clinic acquired that when they purchased the Playhouse?
  9. I haven't heard anything recently. Cosgrove usually updates employees on stuff like that at his quarterly meetings, but I've skipped the last couple. I'll ask around and see what I can find. If there's anything worth passing on I'll be sure to post it here.
  10. I was under the impression that the Brunswick building was bought by the same people that own the hotel, but I could be wrong. As for the 100th St site, I am not sure if there is anything planned there as of yet. I believe it is going to be a parking lot for the time being and eventually put to a different use as part of the "master plan." Again, I could be wrong.
  11. The article says that an investor wants to make it into a 160 room hotel with the fitness center being open to the public and hotel guests. Apparently it had previously been planned for apartments.

Welcome back to Ohio and (hopefully :-)) to Cleveland! Here's my take on being a 30 y/o gay man in Cleveland. Overall, I would echo what willyboy and the others have said, particularly about there not being any single "gayborhood". If I had to guess, I'd say Lakewood or Tremont would come closest. Everywhere I've been, especially in Cleveland itself, has been gay-friendly. I honestly don't do much in the whole gay-scene, so I can't comment too much on bars, clubs, etc. That probably has to do with the fact that most of my friends/coworkers are straight. Anyways, while my BF and I go out a lot, it's usually to regular restaurants/bars and we've never felt uncomfortable. Employment-wise: The only place I've worked at here is the Cleveland Clinic (the largest private employer in the area) and they offer domestic partner benefits. My coworkers and also (largely) accepting. Churches: Assuming you're a mainline Protestant you won't have any trouble finding a gay-friendly church. If you're Episcopalian, you may want to try the cathedral. The cathedral dean is a lesbian and a number of gay people attend there. As has been mentioned, the UCC is quite gay-friendly. Overall, I have nothing bad to say about being gay here. My BF wishes there were more bars/clubs, but it could just be that we don't know where to go. If someone wants to PM me with some suggestions, that would be great. We've been to Bounce and Twist and a few places in Akron (where he works), but that's about it. Like I said, we've been on numerous (obvious) dates without any bad experiences. I've never lived or been out in Columbus, Cincy, or Toledo, so I can't comment on them or compare them to Cleveland/Akron. One of my ex's moved from Akron to Columbus and he always raved about their gay scene. Anyways, I hope that this is helpful.
  13. There have always been TVs in the bar area. So, are there now TVs in the dining area? I haven't been there in months.
  14. I'm sure the new hotel he's talking about is the Tudor Arms renovation, which I think is supposed to be done next year...but don't quote me on that. I agree with Htsguy that, for the reasons he mentioned, there's no way retail is going in the lab building. I definitely think there should be more retail on the campus. Personally, I think they should tear down the Guest House complex and replace it with a new hotel/retail/etc complex. I have no idea if that's part of the new master plan (or even if the Clinic owns it). There is some retail on the Main Campus, but it's all safely tucked inside the Miller Pavilion.
  15. Thanks for the welcomes. I've actually been a member for some time, but just never posted a comment. Anyways, sorry for the delay in posting a rendering. I had trouble finding a copy and I've been extremely busy. I don't know much about the building except that it'll be 136K sq ft and they hope it will be LEED certified. Based on the drawing it appears the building will run parallel to Carnegie up to 105th street.
