  1. Oh. Don't know why I didn't know that. Never been there... I don't think it was around when I last lived in the city. I'm more curious to go there now that I know it's not a "ditto" bar.

Not sure if this should go here or in the Urban Bar section. Anywho, this thread is to document any appearances UO makes in the media! Let's keep elevating the narrative. Quimbob, cincySAL, and I were recently quoted on Cincinnati's Fox19. http://www.fox19.com/story/17961244/city-tries-to-buy-building-in-otr-for-streetcar-mainten
  3. lord, they're quoting this guy? what the hell, after all the press they give COA T Clowns.....
  4. Wow, good news. I always hated that. Huh, I thought that was like a gay/hipster bar. Maybe it started out that way and devolved?
  5. It seems to be a new theme among local reporters to grab quotes from the internet instead of actually conducting interviews (e.g. the Enquirer quoting CincyBlog in the recent Smitherman piece). At least they interviewed Wendell Young.
  6. Hahaha, thanks for the heads up. Quimbob, cincySAL and I were quoted. :D They botched the "nati" part of my name, though, and reduced it to "nat". :( Don't trash the nat! Here's the link: http://www.fox19.com/story/17961244/city-tries-to-buy-building-in-otr-for-streetcar-mainten
  7. Gah! And if no one rents them they will blame the market here. Are the rentals hourly only?
  8. These are great. Very glad you are sharing them!
  9. a) Be original. Don't be the Utah "Jazz". Even with the Ohio Valley drawl, you couldn't pull it off. b) What wagon? I have 2 of the last 7 posts in your thread and one of those was from months ago. We are on our 3rd post-draft page. Now you know you can't tell those double wide living hillbilly's a damn thing! SMDH! We are the urbane sophisticates of the forum. We don't concern ourselves with chatter of such brutish topics of commoners. Except when we commingle with the likes of you -- that's just polite diplomacy.
  10. There's a lot of UO's who will jump on when the time comes. Might as well jump on the Jungle Wagon! Who Dey!
  11. Do either of those places do long term rentals (i.e. days, rather than hours)? If so, for reasonable rates?
  12. It is relevant when you're trying to determine what to do about it, but just knowing the reason doesn't lower the crime rate. I don't know what you meant to say when you first mentioned the differences between gun laws in Europe and the U.S., but it sort of came across as "we shouldn't measure them on the same scale of dangerousness because our gun laws are different". But dangerousness is dangerousness. If there were a city with completely equal violent crime rates, but with no gun violence whatsoever, that city would be just as dangerous as a city with guns.
  13. Finland has more than half as many guns per capita, but way less than half the rate of violent crime. Gun ownership + income disparity + things GCrites80 mentioned + etc., lead to higher violent crime rates. Regardless, the reason is irrelevant to the fact that U.S. cities and Cincinnati in particular are dangerous places.

I have no reason whatsoever to believe the results of this study are not predetermined.
  15. I'm optimistic. As a Big East fan, I'm glad they grabbed Sanu. Wish they had gotten Pead, though.
  16. "Cinco de Stratford" was pretty wild in the early aughts at UC, but UCPD and CPD successfully put a stop to that tradition after 2003.

Makes me wonder what the effect would be if this were preached as gospel to gangsta rap fans. If they were made to think they've been played by the man like a fiddle.
  18. Wolfe was underrated, so that's what's up with him.
  19. Dayton has them. It would be cool if they made some steps toward using renewable energy, but I hope they don't update the rolling stock to one of those hideous beasts. Cincinnati's streetcar will be run on renewable energy...or, really, non-renewable energy with renewable energy credits. Would be very cool if they have some fancier solar tech. It's possible they will have batteries, which would enable regenerative braking and possibly other renewable sourcing.
  20. Cincinnati drops Duke, moves to 100% renewable energy credits Submitted by Kate Melges April 27, 2012 at 14:04pm Read more Very nice. And cost-saving, to boot! Wonder if this will play into Duke's decisions about cooperating with the city re: the streetcar.

Most motorists and pedestrians also feel exempt from traffic laws in New York.
  22. No, because "best of ____" lists have the places on them selected because they are the best at what the list is about. This list is selected because of city population, not quality of transit. Big difference. It's not a "best of" list.
  23. LOL@those flags. You'll need a telescope to see them from the street and tweezers to fold them. When is this thing opening? Looking good from what I can see.
