Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I don't think Cleveland is a lost cause, but I think the city needs to do some soul searching to define what success means. If it means replicating its mid-20th century grandiosity, it is a lost cause.

Cincinnati Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News
The building is awesome, too. Wonder why they don't include a picture in the article. Oh, right, it's the Enquirer. Looking at Bryon Martin's Facebook page (the son of the father-son team wanting to open the micro-brewery), I can see he is a hardcore Cincinnati lover. e.g.: Bryon Martin March 30, 2011 Lets have a contest to see who can "like" this page the quickest...GO!!! Cincinnatians for the Streetcar The streetcar is under attack in Columbus. Now is the time to show our elected officials, both in Cincinnati and in Columbus that Cincinnatians understand the importance of the streetcar. The Cincinnati Enquirer has repeatedly attacked the streetcar, arguing that it is "undesired". Facts and histo... Page: 902 like this Also, check out his graphic at the top...amazing picture of Mt. Adams from the east, with the skyline poking over the top.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Huh. Sounds interesting! You should start a thread about it. Hmm. I didn't mean to come across that way. I was just thinking my puzzlement out loud.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Thanks. This does not sound very encouraging. This will greatly limit where I can live in the neighborhood and that presents a problem for a project that I had in mind to serve the neighborhood. This sounds very cryptic. I find it weird you would specifically choose Price Hill for a project, unless it were related to some of the problems PH has...which would mean you wouldn't be gawking at the crime stats. Color me confused.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Uhh, sure it can. The design just has to be more urban and less suburban shopping mall. To clarify why the stop cannot be at the front door, shoppers taking the streetcar will exit the store with their groceries, and stand in front of the front door waiting for the streetcar, blocking the exit for other customers. This is especially important when fire exits are considered. The streetcar should stop some distance from the front door to make room for all the queueing. Really? I don't think he meant it literally right in front of the door more as near the entrance in a situation like John described. Right. All of a sudden the discussion changed to something other than whether it makes sense to have the streetcar going through the University Plaza site, which is what I thought we were talking about.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Regardless of whether a streetcar should stop directly in front of the door (which is totally unnecessary on any account), it has nothing to do with whether the streetcar could peacefully coexist with a Kroger going through the University Plaza and connecting the two Vine Streets. It must be integrated with the site, yes. I don't see why those two things are included in the same paragraph, let alone the same sentence.

By this reasoning, the streetcar shouldn't stop in front of any store at all. After all, there will be customers with bags waiting to get on, and other customers trying to leave the store.

Why does Kroger have control over the Short Vine situation? If I remember correctly, Marge Schott used to own University Plaza. Did Kroger get it after she died?

Cincinnati: Evolution and Changing Perceptions of Urban Neighborhoods
I don't get why murder is considered the bellwether of dangerousness. In Cincinnati, as in most places, you almost never get murdered if you are not knowingly cavorting with murderers and people in the drug trade, etc. The same is not true of getting jumped or being the victim of an armed robbery, which would be better danger indicators for the general public. BTW, we should all be thankful that Cincinnati has hardly any carjackings. Having the ability to drive through any neighborhood at any time of day or night and feel completely safe is not a luxury shared in all cities.

Cincinnati: Evolution and Changing Perceptions of Urban Neighborhoods
Sorry, I should have checked the map before I said that. But yeah I knew you couldn't just go from Wyoming to Lincoln Heights on the street network, so for all intents and purposes, they don't really border. Not only can you not go on the street network, but the Mill Creek is in the way as well as a bunch of industrial/railroad-related infrastructure. No one crosses that border, ever. Believe it or not, there is also a lower-income part of Wyoming near the Lockland border. It's not as abrupt a transition as you might imagine. One major reason municipal boundaries are different from neighborhood boundaries is the school district differential. Between Lockland and Wyoming, this is a very salient issue. If suddenly a couple blocks of Lockland were in the Wyoming school district, those blocks would clean up quickly. Obviously, there's no such difference between Gateway Q and NoLibs.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Washington Park
I said "about the same". They are not a difference in magnitude like land values are, and material costs are also pretty much the same.
-
Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Washington Park
^ Land values are much lower in Cincy than in Boston and SF, but construction costs are about the same. The building that gets constructed on a plot of land is in part a function of the value of the land. Thus you get lower quality buildings in Cincy.

That didn't infer the Bearcats would win (again, NO ONE said they would), and it was in the UC thread which is a place where trash talk against another team should be considered pretty non-aggressive.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Basketball Discussion
What made it sweet for me is everyone from down yonder thinking cincy was going to roll tOSU. Well that didn't happen...and we found out the bearcats are still irrelevant. Care to back that up? I don't see any such claims in this thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,3483.msg609080.html#msg609080
