Ohio: foreign-born population & immigration data
^ Your approach is just way off. You came in with an attitude like "no one should care about this" and tried to pick a fight. You could have instead started with "You know, some people think a high immigrant population is inherently good for a city's economy. I don't really think that's true, or it's only contingently true, because..." What you did say is insulting to people who care about these statistics, even without regard to why they care about them.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
But why not show better examples and plant the seeds of quality in people's heads? Just quickly poking around a couple European cities I am familiar with, I found these images: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=amsterdam&hl=en&ll=52.346836,4.876771&spn=0.012046,0.033023&sll=35.101934,-95.712891&sspn=64.039328,135.263672&hnear=Amsterdam,+Government+of+Amsterdam,+North+Holland,+The+Netherlands&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=52.34664,4.876743&panoid=yr_8HUgXd6zgO274p_sqAQ&cbp=12,228.69,,0,19.82 http://g.co/maps/y3vnw http://maps.google.com/maps?q=amsterdam&hl=en&ll=52.351843,4.880118&spn=0.01173,0.033023&sll=35.101934,-95.712891&sspn=64.039328,135.263672&hnear=Amsterdam,+Government+of+Amsterdam,+North+Holland,+The+Netherlands&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=52.351787,4.880067&panoid=PUIHAAB9sR-vvSCJvn-ybA&cbp=12,95.49,,0,5.99 http://g.co/maps/c2gar http://maps.google.com/maps?q=bremen&hl=en&ll=53.07629,8.803911&spn=0.005923,0.016512&sll=52.370216,4.895168&sspn=0.192639,0.528374&hnear=Bremen,+Germany&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=53.07598,8.804122&panoid=oKMZ-PKmogGgbhjNFCx6oA&cbp=12,205.45,,0,11.87 http://g.co/maps/y3vnw The third one doesn't have a parking lane, but you can easily see how there could be one. (The first examples are also better because they show grade separation between the sidewalk and bike lane, which for Cincinnatians is probably necessary.)

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
The Lager House opening is a huge milestone. It's only going to get better, as the park is completed and the Banks is built out (e.g. the adjacent empty office tower footprint).

Yawn, I can see you're not going to give up until you've made the discussion in this thread about what you want it to be about.

So 'cyberspace' is outdated. What about 'meatspace'?

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
The lager house looks so flipping epic it's ridiculous. Huge asset to a resurging downtown! Local business, historic local theme, makes great use of the city's physical beauty, it's pretty itself, a boon to the Banks, an anchor for the park. A great showcase for the city and something both urban and suburban dwellers can be proud of. This thing just oozes synergy. Oh, and it's right next to the ballpark. Looking at these pictures on Facebook, I just imagine being a visitor from out of town, and being blown the f$&k away. Any city would be jealous of this place. I love the way it shows off the Roebling bridge!

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
If there are going to be islands of curb space between parking and bike lanes, they had better not be as hideous as those pictured above!

I'd rather see Liberty Street narrowed again. Having one oversized boulevard to deal with (Central Parkway) is more than enough.

Thanks. I find it interesting, independent of any economic analysis.

Dayton: Downtown: Development and News
Yikes, those walls along the street are pretty awful.

Gas Prices
My bet is speculators. Markets don't seem to be governed by real events anymore. At least not in the short-to-medium term.
-
Peak Oil
After deficit reduction by tax cuts, this is the most factually challenged posturing by the GOP in this election cycle. The whole premise that American oil production will significantly lower gas prices is silly. (Forget anything about sustainability.)

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine, earth, light, and sky
Yes, and it contributes to the general ugliness of America. Maybe Delhi is an extreme example, but there's no reason to be an apologist for disgusting overhead wires. It's a paradigm we never should have accepted.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^^ Locally-owned is another major aspect, in contrast with the majority of Banks tenants. (As OCtoCincy pointed out.) It's bizarre to me how some people can own their white privilege with no sense whatsoever that it should be corrected. As was also noted, the grant is for permanent parts of the building. If Mahogany folds, the money will still essentially be there for the next business.

natininja replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & Entertainment^ The idea just being to encourage more bars, clubs, and restaurants to locate in the area? Wonder why the C&D Cafe is excluded by a block.

Cincinnati Enquirer
I thought the best option for that would have been for the Dayton Daily News to absorb the Post after the JOA ended. DDN was supportive of the 3C project when other "mainstream" media was not. If I lived in the Cincinnati-Dayton metroplex, I'd get that paper over the Enquirer---and I'd TELL the Enquirer that I was moving on and why. Dayton was clearly the biggest beneficiary from 3C. Being close to both Cincy and Cbus (bigger cities with more amenities), Daytonians were in line to get some really awesome service. Anyone in Dayton would have to be a complete buffoon not to support 3C. The DDN had to realize this. (Columbus was the next city to get the most, since they also have no rail service currently. Then Cincy, since going to Cleveland then hopping the train to the east coast would actually be less time on the train than the winding Cardinal. Cleveland was set to receive the least benefit, but it would be useful even for them.)

^ And, of course, there is a house with its front door off those steps -- and no regular street frontage. Awesome!

I love love love the steps, and they are not exclusive to Mt. Adams! When I am in Cincy I always try to walk one of the routes in this book: http://www.ohioswallow.com/book/Walking+the+Steps+of+Cincinnati
