Cincinnati: Corryville: University Village
I wish CAGIS would make it easier to distinguish neighborhood boundaries. If there's a good way to do that, I couldn't figure it out. Does anyone know a good source for downloading GIS datasets/shapefiles for Cincinnati?

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
The stadium deal is at the front of everyone's mind, especially during the recession. A lot of the economic woes of the recession get blamed on Mike Brown, and not entirely unreasonably. It's a thorn in the side of the county, and it goes way beyond the sports world. The local media doesn't let us forget it, either. Nor should they, really. It's a perpetual problem.

Wouldn't it be nice to be in the 6th/7th year of operation of the streetcar?

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Thanks for the article, Quimbob. Sherman, I agree with you. I don't think the police are completely free of blame, though. And it's not because there aren't enough of them.

COAST
These guys act so much on primitive emotion, they are bound to come crashing down in public humiliation at some point. They will do something illegal during the course of their loony crusade, it will come to light, and that will be the end of COAST as it exists today.

It's a function of land value, as we've discussed several times.

Yeah, I totally agree. I prefer things that are actually being built in OTR like City Homes (minus the vinyl) and Trinity Flats. These take historic elements of the neighborhood and apply them in a contemporary context, but they don't bastardize historic styles like in neilworms's pic.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
I believe it's pretty good, as the gang problem is less (certainly less organized/professional) than in many cities, leading to less of a "stop snitching" witness intimidation culture. It may also help that communities are so tight (everyone knows everyone, lack of transience), so that when someone commits a major crime people in the community hear about it...then someone comes forward with the info. I don't have the data to back these claims up. Anecdotally, though, I've lived in other places where murders seem to rarely be solved.

I have one of the higher posts per day counts, though I'm a late-comer. Yes, I am ashamed. (Of my ppd, not my late registration.) Clevelumbus has less than a quarter the number of posts I have, yet has been a member on the site about 4 times as long!

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
It'd be better if it felt like they deserved to be there. They aren't a good team, but the other AFC teams who didn't make it are worse. The good thing is they have loads and loads of potential, given so many rookies/young players. Also first round picks coming up.

Marcellus / Utica Natural Gas & Fracking
Considering the allegations that fracking causes earthquakes, this is especially interesting: Official: 4 Ohio fluid-injection wells cannot open in wake of quake by Maggie Schneider January 1, 2012 State leaders have ordered that four fluid-injection wells in eastern Ohio will be "indefinitely" prohibited from opening in the aftermath of heightened seismic activity in the area, an official said. Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director James Zehringer had announced on Friday that one such well -- which injects "fluid deep underground into porous rock formations, such as sandstone or limestone, or into or below the shallow soil layer," the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency explains -- was closed after a series of small earthquakes in and around Youngstown. Then on Saturday, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck that released at least 40 times more energy than any of the previous 10 or more tremors that had rattled the region in 2011.

Not to take the thread off-topic, but in relation to your last paragraph, I think it's interesting to note there's a AAA discount for Amtrak tickets. Does anyone know why?
