On the Big East Blog (ESPN) someone suggested the city give Burnet Woods to UC so they could build an enormous parking lot for tailgating. Edit: I should clarify, it was a commenter and not ESPN staff.

Blue Line, if you think we are mistaken about Sittenfeld, why don't you explain to us what we should be liking?

That is just craziness. Why would I have something personally against the guy? I don't. I've made specific complaints about specific things he has said or done. When you see very little from someone, and all of it has been bad, you get a negative impression. If Sittenfeld comes out as a raging warrior for public transit, cycling, historic preservation, and other issues that are important to me, I will change my tune. However, at best I have seen tentative/wishy-washy support for any of these issues. Knowing how politics works, that indicates to me that this is just lip-service. It sounds more like you have a personal stake in defending him.

Are there still pool tables at Tangeman? There are 3 or 4 in the basement, in what is UC's best kept secret: Catskeller. It's one of the best beer bars in the city, with 8 microbrews on tap at any time, and beers like La Fin du Monde for $4.25. I remember when it first opened and they only had something like bud light. Sounds like it is much improved now! Good news.

^^^ This is completely stupid. I understand their frustration with the city, but the county commissioners have kind of forced the city into a position to play hardball. Otherwise the city would be footing the bill for sewer improvements which MSD would have to do with or without the streetcar, which is obviously absurd. The county commissioners have decided to be vindictive, at the expense of everyone involved -- especially MSD ratepayers. Oh well, this too will pass. ^ Wow, and people think catenary is ugly!

Big Jesus definitely needs a stop. As for the commute...it's too damn long. Straight up. Maybe doable on a train, but not in a car.

I would rather money be spent improving a historic building (city hall) than demolishing historic buildings. I would rather money be spent doing something that improves the urban environment (making a nice event space in city hall) than something that's sprawl-inducing and hostile to the city (highway interchanges). Sittenfeld looks worse every time he opens his mouth.

LOL. I'm all about bike commuting, but I don't think I would do this. Maybe occasionally for the heck of it, but not regularly. The only way I might do it is if buses were allowed to use shoulder lanes and avoid traffic. Then it might actually be faster than driving.

The liberal arts were founded by aristocrats, so their domination in those fields has been entrenched essentially for millenia.
