^ Totally agree...the idea that all views should be given equal credence by the media, in order to be considered unbiased, is absurd. When a view can demonstrably be proven untrue, it is no longer okay for an allegedly objective source to put it on an equal field with true or plausible opposing views. Does anyone actually maintain that Fox doesn't have a right wing bias? Treating the "fair and balanced" claim as a plausible proposition on par with any other is not objectivity, it is bad journalism. Journalism's first loyalty should be to the truth, and when the truth is backed into a corner where it is considered partisan by some newspeak crowd, then journalism should rightfully be partisan in order to be objective. I think the crime committed in the headline of that piece is not injected opinion so much as sensationalism, which is another issue.

Has anyone heard anything about the status of the streetcar? Any movement with the feds? Any paperwork being passed around between agencies? Contracts signed? Or even anything about the opposition's petitions? Any spottings of people out collecting signatures? Any idea if they will find enough signatures to make the November ballot?

What do you mean by this? It dawned on me last night why this was confusing...since "under your skin" usually means something negative. Sorry for the mix-up; not sure why I thought to use it as something like "becoming a permanent part of you".

I admit to being biased myself, being a native and all, but giving my best go at objectivity I have to say that people who have lived in Cincinnati and given the city a chance (non-natives) leave with a stronger tie to the city than doing the same with other places. There's something that really gets under the skin and doesn't let go. Maybe the character of the city has a synergistic effect with nostalgia, or being the setting for "the good old days". HHS78, I wonder how your experience with the city might be different if your skin were of the paler variety. In the northeast, I find the racial divide to be less, but the class divide to be more rigid. Obviously I don't know what it's like to be black, but I wonder if the psychological effects of stratification are kind of similar.

I mean you will see that Cincy has become a part of you that you can't shake, and while you say it doesn't really feel like home now, it will feel like a second home once you leave.

They would ignore it, unless it's framed in a way they find digestible. That would mean very craftily composing whatever informational material you decide upon. By "digestible", I don't mean intellectually, but ideologically. You need to frame it in language which appeals to the broadest number of swayable skeptics. References to Portland or global warming, e.g., will instantly turn lots of people off.

I think the streetcar project is close to ideal as a first step for modern rail in the region. OTR is tailor-made for TOD (literally, as that's how it was originally developed), and is the area where the biggest impact can be made with the least amount of capital expenditure. Start in the center and work out. That makes the most sense. Any first light rail line should connect downtown to the airport, IMO.

They do a little something on July 4th, but Labor Day is the big fireworks day downtown.

Aside from what Rob said about DNG, I think your only choices are compression or dealing with long upload times. If you don't make the files smaller (either by compressing via ZIP/RAR/etc. or by developing the images and saving in a compressed format like JPG), then the upload times will be slow no matter what you do. No way around that! Also, Rob's DVD solution is a possibility, of course.
