  1. I prefer my dumb-asses from Real America.

That is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard. It is amazing how nobody on the left is willing to give this guy a chance. In four years you will see this guy drastically improve the mess that Taft and Strickland left him and he'll easily win re-election... #BookIt! Of course it's dumb. So is inserting language in the transportation budget asserting that state and federal funds are not allowed to go to the Cincinnati streetcar. Fight dumb with dumb. It's the American way.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Forget enacting a system of recall or anything like that. We should follow Kasich's model of governance and put in the state constitution that John Kasich is not allowed to hold political office in Ohio.

Wow, I need to go to a forum meeting some time. Sounds like they can be eventful.
  5. The plan was to seek funding from public and private grants, and to distribute municipal bonds. It was a very successful plan, actually. And it's a plan which has been used to build many things in the past. If what you're saying is there needs to be a system structured to ensure funds for rail projects similar to highway projects, that could be true. Maybe you can suggest some ways that might happen. It seems to me it would be easier to take down some of the highway fund's structural advantage than add a rail funding component. One might be able to convince the fanatical obstructionists to support laws which bind highway spending to gas tax revenue. Or create some sort of mandate about projected ROI for future road projects (though the details of that might be difficult, as projections are inherently subjective...the TRAC board, or something like it, would probably play a significant part in such decisions. And the way things are now, it seems the TRAC board may be easily corrupted). Then, of course, there is no guarantee more rail will be built. But at least DOT's fiscal house will be in order. And with the playing field leveled slightly, there's a better chance for quality transit projects to be built (including rail).

  7. The order of the letters they put up is pretty unfortunate. Or fortunate, depending on your sense of humor.
  8. Haha, are you serious?
  9. ^ It's not easy when you consider sprawl induced by the funding structure. Less roads would require less utilities, less travel distance for freight, less parking, etc. Costs which appear to be only for vehicular traffic on the surface actually jack up the cost of other things you mention. Now how do you separate them?
  10. ^ That study was done by California intellectuals and reported by Time. Clearly, it's leftist propaganda. My friend has pet mice, and he lives right by a freeway. Guess what, his mice don't have cancer. Refuted!
  11. Cincinnati is the 5th oldest American city...as in some stupid "RealAge" health metric of the population. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/08/youngest-oldest-cities-america_n_846256.html#s262152&title=5_Oldest_Cities
  12. At least Michigan has no hurricanes.
  13. I think if you put a train station in downtown Wyoming or Mariemont you'd get some dense TOD.
  14. ^ Bing already does that.

I want to advertise this thread for people who aren't from the Cincinnati area who typically don't look at Cincinnati-interest threads on here. It's really an amazing photo thread, regardless of your interest in the subject city. Paradox deserves every user of UrbanOhio checking out his masterpiece. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,25657.0.html
  16. That's a reasonable solution. I hope proponents have the discipline to follow through. I've rarely commented on there. It's just impossible to argue with someone who says "Streetcars are communism, plain and simple, and I don't want Cincinnati to be like Russia" Does that mean, if you live on the streetcar line, you will be able to see Russia from your house?
  17. This. I also love Michigan's gorgeous beaches but they in no way compare to the waters of South Beach/Key West. Anyone who disagrees with this has clearly been inhaling too much from David's vaporizer.
  18. ^ Because the city has the capacity to collect taxes. Did you read what John wrote?

This whole thing smells really, really funny. It's like a bizarro universe, where people who hate rail are advocates and people who love rail are like "What? Why? And why this?".

    513 > 216 It's a numerical fact.
  21. Richard Florida is a pop-star urbanist. His craft is to shovel poo digestible by the masses, while those with something substantive to say go largely ignored. I don't have research backing it up, but my suspicion is that he is solely responsible for the "Pittsburgh is coming back" meme, which is somewhat self-fulfilling (but not enough to stave off a census bashing). He's turned the city from a Forbes-list Cleveland to a Forbes-list Portland. Don't get me wrong: I'm not dissing Pburgh, I'm just talking about popular perception.
  22. ^ Thanks for your interesting take. I've long thought that about the "flatiron" buildings! They don't receive their proper respect.

    How old are you?

I would think workers' comp applies here. Why don't you contact your supervisor (do you have a personal phone number?) and tell them what's up? It doesn't seem like something you should wait on. Maybe poke around on this website: www.ohiobwc.com I agree with Rob. You should just go get treatment. (I may not have been clear enough when I said "It doesn't seem like something you should wait on.") v
