  1. Looks like that's included in Schickel Design's Pleasant Street Vision Study: http://www.schickeldesign.com/documents/otrch_vision_study_final_booklet.pdf I wouldnt be in favor of anything giant, i really like the views of the rooftops and steeples from the hillsides. But, time has arrived when we have to start thinking about Liberty Street not as a border but as a centerpiece of the neighborhood. Wow, those garages are huge. And what's with them fronting Elm & Race? (Page 18 of PDF) Edit: They even front Liberty in one spot (and visibly bridge the alley), seen best on Pg. 20.
  2. Since it doesn't seem like there is any will to really shrink Liberty and make the lots on the southern side of the street bigger (like they were before the street was widened), taller buildings on Liberty would be beneficial for making the scale of the street feel better. Same for the OTR side of Central Parkway. I agree that keeping OTR's skyline of steeples is important to the character of the neighborhood. So I wouldn't want anything on Liberty that significantly interferes with that. (Central Pkwy. is a different story, since it's practically CBD anyway.) There are a lot of empty lots and buildings to fill up before the supply of housing is limited by height restrictions. Especially when you consider Queensgate, the West End, Mt. Auburn, or even Walnut Hills, Covington, Newport. Or beyond. There are so many vacant lots and buildings, parking lots, etc. in the city that it would be a loooong time before encountering problems like SF or NYC have.
  3. Not like 5 feet is skinny, so a wedge of painted buffer making the lane narrowing gradual should fix it up perfectly.
  4. Burke is like the proverbial apathetic principal of an under-performing school.
  5. Now why couldn't the Democratic primary have been Feeney, Tarbell, Landsman, and Luken? QFT
  6. Okay, so the Nike thing is on the bridge, and the HRC/HRH is...where? Also on the bridge? I would expect something like that at the Banks (which needs the hotel hole filled desperately!). I hope cyclists are still able to use the bridge, assuming anything like these plans ever happens.

Ground Rule Double would be a good name for a cocktail or a double IPA.

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. But that doesn't stop people from using creative names to get the point across. Moerlein might even try to get a contract w/ MLB.

Molly Wellmann would be happy to come up with an All-Star cocktail. She's the best-known craft mixologist of Cincinnati. I'm sure Moerlein will do an All-Star beer. Possibly other breweries, too. Edit: My 5000th post is fittingly about alcohol. CELEBRATION! :drunk: inebriation
  10. Not seeing the polish? Or the shout out to urban Ohio? He cares about Northside!
  11. ^^ I agree that Columbus's zoo tends to rank really high in pretty much all the lists I've seen. I didn't know Toledo's was supposed to be so good. Cincinnati's is pretty good, and has made some lists I've seen, but its main distinction is being very historic (second zoo in the country, I think?). Jack Hanna, WOOOOOO!!!! (Famous dude from Cbus Zoo, in case anyone's been living under a rock.)
  12. Don't sell it short. ;)
  13. Well, I hope they are sincere. Enquirer: Publishing Trashy Arrest Stories Was a Mistake Editor says Finlay Market pee story was an “abberation” and won’t happen again The Cincinnati Enquirer news department has seen some hard times this week, taking down stories about rich people getting arrested and now admitting that it was a bad idea to publish a trashy collection of mug shots and arrest reports about people who are likely mentally unstable or addicted to drugs. CityBeat reported yesterday that The Enquirer took down a story about police arresting Robert S. Castellini, son of Reds owner Bob Castellini, and his wife Sunday night for allegedly fighting in front of their children. Enquirer Editor Carolyn Washburn explained in an email to CityBeat that the story wasn’t pulled because any super-powerful local business leaders whose team is hosting the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game complained. She says neither the Castellinis nor anyone else contacted The Enquirer about the story. Someone in the news department apparently used flawed news judgment and then someone else posted the story online before it had been properly vetted by editors. Nothing sinister — just general, run-of-the-mill incompetence. Read more

The Reds are really capitalizing on the whole mustache fad, popularized by hipsters. It's at once historically authentic and contemporary. I approve.
  15. So flagrantly despicable. :x
  16. Sounds like a curious fund-raising idea... I'm wondering if they are like prepaid Mastercards where some of the purchase price is donated to streetcar operations. It would be cool if businesses on the route would give discounts for purchases made with them, thereby covering some of that donation themselves rather than putting it all on the person who bought the card. Or if they are just usable for participating businesses along the route, who would then kick in some money toward operations. Or...or...hmmm

I was thinking I might try it when the Cincy streetcar is extended to Uptown! (With a handbrake, that would actually be pretty awesome)

Not sure how this one missed this thread: http://vimeo.com/86508660
  19. I can't vote on it, but I think I'd vote No. It's not like the building is going to fall down if this one vote fails. There'll be more time to get a better plan on the ballot. Hype it up as abhorrent and use it in a campaign to attack Monzel. Plus, the failure might bring more private donations, which would be nice. Raised ticket prices would be not-so-nice, though.
  20. I understand that, but to me it means there should be a mix. I don't know what the ideal mix would be, but 100% regressive seems like a bad idea. Ideally, of course, there would be a regional property tax.

Supposedly, FitzGerald has never been drunk in his life.
  22. So you want to replace the property tax levies with a regressive sales tax? Huh? ???
  23. I have a hard time seeing this pass, because the people who like Cranley would remember how they wouldn't want Mallory with these powers, and vice-versa. BUT... 1) I also once thought Qualls was a shoo-in (I have a bad track record), and 2) Cincinnatians love to change their structure of government every few years.
  24. CITY BLIGHTS WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
  25. Oh Lord, yes, FINALLY! I hope the bike share can be integrated, too.
