  1. He was also a DJ on the golden oldies station WGRR, IIRC.

^ Are you back for good, from Budapest?
  3. ^ I think that people with money are held to a different standard than those without. People looking to enroll their kids in the school are allowed to camp out in public, whereas homeless people (who would presumably benefit more from being allowed to spend the night in such a place) would not be allowed. This is just my assumption.
  4. It's pretty stupid, but not offensive enough to get me to join a boycott. Basically, the guy holds a political view that two friends can disagree about and easily remain friends. He acted on it in a really rude way. Then apparently he apologized for it. I hope the apology was sincere, and not just meant to avoid loss of business. I hope the situation can be resolved for all those involved, after some time to cool off and maybe some dialogue.
  5. Now you just need PAC status, LiG.

Can we move this discussion to another thread, please?
  7. ^ Yep, Eighth and State definitely mentioned this. I believe he also predicted it would be a big boost for proponents of the Main & Walnut route. We'll see where this goes.

  9. It won't happen soon, anyway. You'd be better off b!tching about the 2nd Ave. tunnel being built before the current system is "fixed".

We need a TV version of NPR. All the for-profit stuff is awful. I know there's PBS, but it should be more prominent (and better funded), like BBC.
  11. ^ And the revelation that it would be "gated".
  12. Who cares! There are already many options and the water taxi is faster and more fun! You have to transfer to the water taxi, unless you live right near it (though I agree it's more fun). PATH trains are good, provided you're on the line. But those lines are limited. And that's exactly the point: extending the 7 creates more options. Especially since PATH from Hoboken goes all the way south, before finally going up to Midtown. A straight line into midtown from Secaucus makes a ton of sense. The NJ side of the river is more connected (by most measures) to Midtown than the other end of the 7, out in Flushing. So why not trasportationally? The Hudson is more of an arbitrary line with each passing year. JC & Hoboken have made the transition from the 6th borough to Manhattan West. It's time the subway tunnels start reflecting that.
  13. Those don't even go into NYC, so they hardly count. (Also, it's Pascack, not Passaic.) I realize Metro-North is technically MTA, but those obviously aren't an alternative to the 7 subway line, which was what we were talking about. By that standard, MTA already serves Secaucus, too.
  14. Huh? Hoboken has a ferry and the PATH...what does MTA run?
  15. That part of NJ is already so Manhattanized, it only makes sense to give them MTA service.
  16. What does that mean for Hopkins?
  17. ^ Just post a YouTube URL.
  18. I definitely keep the KY side distinct from Cincy in my mind, but I agree they should be as connected as possible!!! It's funny, there has always been a very noticeable cultural shift when you cross the river. But the last time I went to Covington/Newport, I realized that with all the preservation going on over there, and corresponding gentrification, the change is not so abrupt or noticeable as it once was. The working class people of Cincy and NKY (or really any two places) have a bigger cultural gap than the educated elite, I guess is the explanans.
  19. Good thread idea.
  20. Beer, wine and cocktails + movie = pee breaks.
