Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
^ I agree with you, but don't agree that means we should destroy, or completely change the character of, this particular building.

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
He's black, he comes from a liberal east coast city, he worked for NYC's transit agency... I see some reasons to be optimistic. At least we won't have an interim manager anymore. It's been too long having the supposedly independent position occupied by someone the mayor has a good deal of power over.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
Very well put. If in another 50 years people still don't like it, I might be okay w/ tearing it down. But there are far worse offenders now, like surface lots and parking garages. There's even something slightly charming about this building; I can see why it was considered fancy back in the day. Even if the style of that day is mostly reviled now.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Terrace Plaza Hotel
I don't mind preserving its modernist character for the foreseeable future. It's not like contemporary feelings about historic tastes have a good track record. Let's not be so hasty to destroy the past.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
This is not entirely inappropriate. What does Dunhumby do? They aren't in the business of making loyalty cards. They are in the business of tracking people's activities and compiling information. In that sense, I think the building is somewhat...appropriate. Not lost on me, trust!

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
thebillshark, I think your design is coming together nicely! I wonder if it would be better to make those 90-degree turns a bit smoother, reshaping the buildings to be less rectangular (thereby shortening travel times). Overall, I think this looks nice! The garage is in a nice location, where it can be accessed from both Corry and WHT. (I wish a garage could be skipped, but I know reality dictates otherwise.) What a fantastic node of true-blue transit-oriented development this would be. Jefferson route = Missed opportunity.

Cincinnati: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
natininja replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentSays there will be tours. I'm assuming to the grave sites of beer barons. I found one of them recently, without looking. I think it was Hauck, not sure. Big sculpture right on one of the roads; hard to miss if you're on foot nearby.

I disagree. I like the variations in styles found in the CBD.

Off Topic
Not sure. You can do it with GIS software. Usually people cheat and use crow-flying distance instead of network-distance for walkshed. That would be an even worse indicator for driving times, where you should really consider speed limits, traffic signals, congestion at times of day, etc.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The streets carrying the streetcar will be repaved, curb-to-curb, once track construction is complete. Edit: Ya beat me to it.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
Yep. The majority of walkshed is eaten up by the river, hilly areas (where people are less willing to walk and development is hard here in Landslide USA), and possibly floodplain. I like it better than the Eastern Corridor because it goes to a significant place (symbolically, if not significant for ridership) and has the novelty of a road bridge which actually makes some decent sense. But I would prefer CVG rail that has a Mainstrasse stop (and I believe it would carry more passengers and yield a far better ROI).

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
The other alternative is having to have people cross the bike lane during boarding/alighting, which is much more idiotic. This way works just fine, and from what I can tell the bike lanes on Central Parkway do not swerve to go around the bus stops, which makes them better than many implementations elsewhere. http://usa.streetsblog.org/2014/06/12/the-street-ballet-of-a-bike-lane-behind-a-transit-stop/ https://bicycledutch.wordpress.com/2013/09/05/riding-around-the-bus-stop/
