What raises GDP?
Right, I forgot the "Gross" part, LOL.

What raises GDP?
You're basically right, but "more jobs" is not the answer. Jobs are part of production costs, so the more product that can be produced with fewer jobs, the higher the GDP. GDP is created by making products and selling them for a higher price over production costs. The more you make and sell, and the higher you sell over production costs, the higher the GDP.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^ I wonder to what extent the Enquirer makes a region full of grouchy sticks-in-the-mud, versus the other way around. I suspect it's a cycle which can only be broken by outsiders moving in. Fortunately, it seems a critical mass of the grouches have left for the suburbs, so we have a shot at attracting new people to the city with things like the streetcar (to keep it on topic 8-)).

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
What are you talking about? From what I can see in the webcam, it's only one more level to go. What am I missing? :wtf:  You know how there are "three more arches" to go? Well, two of them are at "one level" and the top one is at another "level"... We need a standard way of talking about this, lol. Actually, once the darn thing is built, it will be irrelevant, I hope. And that is soon...I hope.

Thanks for the quick answer. Is it just a chance, or is that generally accepted as the plan?

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
This has probably been answered before, but...is there any chance the downtown portion will begin operation while the uptown extension is still being built?

Pet Peeves!
I dunno, it seems like a case of someone sharing what little anecdote they can about Ohio generally, not really considering (or perhaps not knowing) the sizable distance between the cities. Dude 1: "I'm from Las Vegas." Dude 2: "Oh yeah? I really like Reno 911." It's conceivable... To the insider, though, it must look ridiculous. I think it's particularly bad, though, since ProkNo5 is in the Midwest, and the guy is a professor of architecture (someone who should know cities, and in this case Midwestern cities in particular). It's no wonder coastal denizens don't know or don't care. Coastal elitism is quite pervasive, and reinforced daily by the media.

I wouldn't doubt if private/corporate investors start coming out of the woodwork in this event. There's also the round 2 TIGER grants TBA in September, I believe.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
From the comments: I truly HOPE & PRAY NOT!! The gay mayor has his gay mind in the wrong place. This city is in such disaray and distress it's horrible. This is the only city that does not have a McDonald's downtown. Where the is there to ride the Streetcar to? Be serious. There is already the joke of Cincinnati hosting a casino, this lame, deadwood town. Please........ Jun. 21, 2010 3:44pm EDT | from Careless

England vs. Algeria Tied 0-0 I had it on, but wasn't really watching. Thank bejebus I didn't sit there intently watching the whole time; talk about a boring game! This is the epitome of why Americans are luke-warm about soccer.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati News & Info
Hmm, color me stupid. Guess I forgot that. Anyhow, their admissions process is selective and we all know the demographics it attracts. Not many people struggling with tuition payments there. Edit: Come to think of it, I remember hearing it called a "private public" (or was it "public private"?) university, due to the above.

Got to agree with you. A large state school versus two relatively small private schools? Come on. Apples and oranges.

Is that where you got your signature quote? I never actually imagined you had ever done it, you look so innocent in your picture. I guess, then, that's the "Still mostly sweet, but don't push your luck" part! It's all coming together now!

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
Thanks for clarifying that, because I really wasn't sure what Thomasbw (Brad...?) meant by "another pair and then the center one". Yeah, I guess I was thinking of the tiara as consisting of 4 different arches, but that's my bad because of how I was viewing it. So what I'm understanding is that they are currently finishing up the 3rd "level" of the tiara, and then will contruct the final middle one that rises to the final height of the building. Is that correct? From what I can tell, you are correct. FWIW, the way you were picturing the arches is basically how I was looking at them. It took a moment for me to figure out what Brad was saying. 'Levels' is probably a good term to use, since it's totally independent of the two sides...which, apparently, can make things confusing.

^^ and ^^^ You're both right, depending on how you look at it. By Brad's definition, they are currently in the middle of constructing four arches. By 1012's definition, they are currently constructing one arch. By Brad's definition, there are three arches left, after the current ones are completed. By 1012's, there is one left.
