Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
Right. This is my main concern about bikeshare in Uptown; not that it won't integrate with the Downtown portion, but that it will not be very appealing to use for the target audience (casual riders). I share far less concern about the 3rd/4th Street hill, though. A separate but lesser concern is that there will be a significant Uptown-to-Downtown one-way flow of bikes which will amount to extra operational costs to keep the Uptown racks stocked. I definitely recognize the idea of them being somewhat separate systems. When I talk about Northside and Clifton being good places, I imagine those two neighborhoods having practically a system of their own, with a bit of Northside<->OTR/CBD traffic to round things out. But especially since the Uptown part isn't essential for the basin part to work as a system, I think it's a mistake to begin them both together. Rather, I would start in the basin (where success has fewer obstacles) and try to get NKY on board and, when that proves to be a great success, try Uptown.

Have You Been a Witness to or Victim of Satanic Activity?
I avoided clicking this for a few minutes, thinking it was yet another neurotic Quimbob post. (I say that with affection, Quimbob.) Hail Santa.

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
^ I admit I'm a bit skeptical of how the bikeshare will work for Uptown, for the reasons you state. I think the basin, NKY, Northside, and Clifton (not CUF "Clifton") would be good spots. Include Camp Washington, pending some study.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
^^ Similar, apart from streetcar development being greater than zero-sum and costing an order of magnitude less. Just what $130m portion (or any portion (including the whole), really) of the Eastern Corridor are the likes of GE or the RNC going to cite as motivation to consider (or choose) locating in the region? How many boomerang Cincinnatians will it inspire to return home?

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
The language shift when it comes to talking about the rail portion is absolutely fascinating. Suddenly there is a discussion of development potential and ROI, which is completely absent from the rest of the article.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Worse -- this quote displays a complete lack of understanding of Downtowns (and urban neighborhoods/areas generally) and what makes them successful. It's like he just popped out of a time capsule from the 1980s (or earlier). This is your closest thing to progressive leadership, Hamilton County.

Gotta keep that streetcar controversial, lest we lose the mother of all click cows. Don't click, guys.

I definitely took Sudsy's for granted. When I was a 15 or so, it seemed so normal. It totally wasn't!

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
Agreed. I've had mixed emotions about lots of it, like the veto of the anti-toll bill. That would have banned tolling the current bridge, which is what should happen. But the longer they delay this bridgedoggle the better.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The specific role is not entirely clear from this article, but apparently UC is working w/ other stakeholders on boosting Short Vine. Some people here seemed to think a streetcar on Short Vine versus Jefferson would be a snub to UC, but I think it's likely UC would be just as supportive of a Short Vine route as a Jefferson route. Here is some evidence UC sees Short Vine as their own, and sees their futures tied together (wise to do IMO). http://www.cincinnati.com/story/money/2014/06/27/big-developments-tall-order-short-vine/11471461/

Didn't Cranley say he would expand bus service during the campaign?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
How big is it going to be? If memory serves the Great American Tower only took about 24 months to build. Wasn't that just the exterior? They let tenants build out the space they were going to use. I don't think much information about the interior build-outs was made public. The hotel, obviously, must have the interior finished before operating.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
^ Those folks won't vote for transit anyway. Appeal to the thin majority that voted for Obama, and rally a coalition of streetcar supporters and minority voters for strong turnout. I really don't understand how people expect to help out the impoverished while denying them access to jobs.
-
Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
Way overdue. I think it could pass, but a nontrivial amount of money would need to be raised for a campaign. People need to have it drilled into their heads how bizarre it is the county doesn't fund SORTA currently. Also an appeal to rights of the disabled and job access for the growing suburban poor population.

Good to hear. But... ...That's an efficient way to murder the historic character. Hard to believe that is allowed in a historic district. Did they get a variance or something? Anyone know?

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Is there a new boom materializing in non-3CDC development, or is it just getting talked about more here in the past few days? (Or a little of columns A & B?)

Cincinnati: Downtown: Mabley Place (formerly Tower Place Mall)
The former mall is going to be a garage w/ ground floor retail. The Pogues Garage across the street is going to be a ~200 unit apartment building sitting on top of a garage and ground floor retail. It was going to be a 300 unit apartment building on top of a garage and grocery store. (Correct me if I'm wrong, people.)

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
That is exactly right, which is why I refuse to click on those hit-pieces. If enough people follow suit, the Enquirer will stop printing them. When there is an article which people continually come back to for the comment section, that is gold for them. Don't click and, if you want to be proactive, email or Tweet your displeasure to the Enquirer staff.

Marooned17, welcome to UrbanOhio! I've had the pleasure of visiting Prague, and had a great time there. I think it's the most beautiful city I've ever been to (and I've been to many beautiful cities)!
