  1. F that. Wait until a developer wants to do right by the building & land.
  2. Straight people...
  3. Camp Washington has an easy route to awesomeness. And This is the biggest, most obvious trigger for that to start. It would easily be on my short list of neighborhoods in Cincy to purchase an investment property.
  4. For real? I had no idea.

This thread hasn't been about hipsters for a long time.
  6. Good point. Putting straight-up roadblocks in is somehow less controversial than a cycle track. :wtf:
  7. I believe it's the perfect spot for such a project, and will be even nicer w/ streetcar tracks running through it. Great environment for urban tailgating for UC games...as opposed to a parking lot built over Burnet Woods, which a vocal segment of the Bearcat fanbase seems to want.
  8. ^ I reject your black & white notion, as I think development is good but so is preservation. That part of the city is extremely unique to the city and the Midwest as a whole. It has a very colonial feel, and taking down historic buildings is a terrible idea, as would be removing any green space. But if you want to put the Burj Khalifa where that parking garage is, by all means, go for it. Ideally there would be an attempt to make the base of the structure blend with the environment (while not mocking it w/ some faux-historic schlock).
  9. jwul and jmeck are both right, but opposition to this plan was never rational. There's also the fact that McMicken could handle some of the traffic if it actually gets so bad. Wouldn't hurt to have a few more eyes on that street.

Fortunately, CO 's track record with killing ideas is pretty piss-poor. Unfortunately, their track record with sucking off the state's teat via frivolous lawsuits and tax incentives is a lot better.

No idea what's going on, but the problem is back today. Never had it before a couple days ago. Could be my browser & plug-ins, though.
  12. ^ Can you do me a favor, when you get a chance, and ask your Portland friends what their solution is?

Seems to work again. Thanks if it's because you fixed it, Magic Admin in the Sky!!
  14. Very fugly. Looks like more examples of engineers ruling the roost. Definitely interested in seeing Glaserworks's design solution. But my instinct is to agree with taestell (and jwulsin) that these could be relatively simply hidden in a building. Though we seem to have passed the point where that's economically feasible for the foreseeable future.
  15. Doesn't really matter who started it. The point is we should be competing w/ other metros, not ourselves.
  16. Huh, that's actually rather interesting. I didn't know about the substations. Do they have them in Portland and other cities? What have other cities done to make them more attractive? (They definitely do sound like a potential eyesore.) Worries about parking are silly, but aesthetic concerns seem realistic. I'd like to see some renderings of what Glaserworks comes up with.
  17. So I guess "can't be too far off" means 18-36 months. :) Definitely an obvious "seed" location for development north of Liberty, and years overdue, frankly.
  18. I'm sure these places are throwing big incentives around to poach them from nearby municipalities. Any extra incentives given amount to a net-negative for the region.
  19. Plano has a quaint & walkable downtown and a light rail line to Dallas w/ something resembling TOD. It's not paradise, but it's far from being sprawl hell.
  20. Wait! Does that mean this is the Man, the Myth, and the Legend?
  21. The probably did the math and decided the Findlay location would be more profitable. Probably lower rent, given it's a far less trendy location. I believe the space above the ground floor retail is vacant, which is a shame. The time can't be too far off until the owners decide some renovations are in order, though, right? I hope so, anyway.
  22. On the bright side, the GE jobs are better in several ways: higher wages (good for tax revenue, but not for lower-education/skill workers who need jobs) urban location (assuming not-Mason) multifaceted company that won't suffer if driving continues to take big hits. Obviously, having both Toyota and GE would be best. But the GE jobs lessen the blow a little, being that the location decisions came in quick succession. Certainly this isn't much consolation for the people losing their jobs or unhappily moving to Texas.
  23. There are several articles on Building Cincinnati about it. The last one appears to be this: http://www.building-cincinnati.com/2011/02/city-queensgate-terminals-likely-to-go.html I'm guessing this was the result of the trial: http://www.supremecourt.ohio.gov/rod/docs/pdf/1/2013/2013-ohio-4219.pdf Sorry, I don't have a full grasp on everything that happened to give you a summary. Basically, my understanding is that council backed down in the face of NIMBY opposition, thereby essentially Crancelling the project before Crancelling was a thing.

Well you did a good job. :) Hope you got to do more than just shoot pics.
