Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Seems like the height restrictions really were holding things up, and the GE site competition forced a resolution. Wonder how long we'd be waiting for construction to start without GE.

Cincinnati (2014, part two)
How many days did it take you to hit all these spots? And how did you plan it all out? Very impressive.

Yeah, I think that's a big "Nope."

Beautiful sidewalks! Amazing sidewalks!

Well, it's still nice to have a buffer of parked cars, even with a landscaped barrier. But with a landscaped barrier, a bike lane, and a row of plastic bollards, I think a barrier of parked cars is quite unnecessary.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
Not sure if it's the same spot you're talking about, but I remember some controversy regarding a proposed multimodal freight facility on the river, where residents of the nearby neighborhood preferred to have a park built instead. I know the facility deal went south, and left the city dealing with legal fallout as they had made commitments, but I don't know if the park has gained any traction.

YES! You hit a lot of neighborhoods. Looking forward to Part II. (Let me guess: CBD and NKY?)

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Definitely. They just opened last year, and they hosted many parties for streetcar supporters, including the one in December just after the final vote to continue with construction. Seem kinda weird to you for him to go advertising his product at another brewery?

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
From there, it's just a matter of getting up to about Hamilton & Chase (could run in the street/mixed-traffic, at least temporarily) and you have a reasonable first phase of an LRT line. Would there be anything preventing the Ludlow Viaduct from carrying LRT-grade streetcar tracks?

Wow, fantastic shots, Eridony! Some of the best shots of completed sections I have seen, and great construction shots depicting context. You actually make the construction look pretty! Can't wait to see more of your work around the city.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
At the very least, a couple of thousand new people moving to the Tri-state means more potential ticket buyers. If that's the reason, then fans did a really good job by breaking the long sell-out streak. I always figured that happened because fans simply were fed up w/ Brown. (Failure to win play-offs had something to do with it too (and isn't totally unrelated), but there was clear improvement with the team's performance while ticket sales dropped.) Never seemed like MB cared too much about ticket sales or team performance, though.

A Columbusite, living in Michigan, randomly posting pictures of this particular project in Cincy. Intriguing. :wtf: Thanks for the photo update, nonetheless. Also, welcome to UO! (Only three posts...I think I can still say that!)

Even if GE doesn't come to the Banks, the prospect seems to have kicked Mike Brown in the pants to let Phase 2 happen. Though he's surely getting something out of this that perhaps he didn't have before. Maybe it's the spot on the steering committee, though it hardly seems like he's needed that to throw his weight around. I wonder what's in it for him if GE chooses the Banks.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
I think it's great to see the arrival of a business from a fellow river city. I wonder if encouraging this (say by agreements between chambers of commerce to encourage intra-regional expansion) could help facilitate regional cohesion and branding. It happens somewhat naturally, on its own, e.g. Tom + Chee first expanding to Louisville, but something official and publicized might be helpful. Why aren't there any Cincinnati chili parlors in St. Louis? These musings are partly inspired by arenn's recent Urbanophile blog post about river cities. I recommend reading it and the comment section in their entirety. It's about the general inability of cities like Pitt, Cincy, L'ville, and STL to spin their wealth of assets into economic success.

Sherman, Sherman, Sherman... Now I have traced where I got the idea that Cranley supported this project. I knew I read it somewhere! You peddler of false hope and false information, you! :whip: I forgive you.

Seems to me having one stop on the hill -- at the Conklin steps -- is a fantastic idea, and maximizes the walkshed (by including an extra chunk at the top of the steps) while minimizing time delays. I like this new plan much better than the previous Vine alternatives. It's coming together to make a lot of functional sense without breaking the bank. And --BONUS -- a set of steps gets revitalized and reopened. Hopefully that strip on Vine w/ a couple crappy bodegas can get a little TOD love and become useful for those currently in the area and those reconnected by the steps. Just the fact that there actually are a couple stores there adds a bit of credibility/viability to having a stop in that location, which simply doesn't exist for the majority of the hill.

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
I'm starting to think RECALL might not be a bad idea, once again. This guy is toxic. What gives him the right to do this, after council passed an ordinance to move forward? (Unanimously, no less!) Couple this with the "pause" on the condo tower. Then there are the threats to gut city departments, meanwhile hiring 23 new police officers. What's the ROI on those cops and their pension liabilities? I think I know the next thing that needs to be Cranceled: JOHN CRANLEY!
