OMG that wretchedness is infecting SWO now, too! I would have just thought it was a typo.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
So are they building north of Central Parkway first, i.e. the "OTR loop"? And 6 MONTHS between substantial completion of all work and the start of passenger service? WTH? I hope the plan is to under-promise and over-deliver (on timing). You have to figure some of that is a buffer period to avoid disappointment with further delays.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
If people aren't coming and parking, then Xerox isn't making money. Unlike private prisons, where what benefits the operator is detrimental to society, private parking operators should theoretically want the same thing as everyone else. At least, that is true since there is a cap on the amount the price can go up annually. Otherwise, they could possibly prey on the few who don't care or have little choice and gauge them to make up for the decrease in "customers".

Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
He also ran as a liberal for all his past elections. Anyone paying the slightest bit of attention will notice he's basically the GOP candidate here.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
He's right about everything except that the number is increasing. You can't make that judgment on year-to-year data. But it's a real problem, it's higher than it realistically should be (it should be zero, but you know what I mean), and it absolutely needs to be worked on. And by worked on, I mean from all angles, addressing poverty and education and not just police work.

These are fascinating statistics, City Blights. They really help to show how difficult it must be to lift oneself out of such sh!tty life circumstances. Who wouldn't be overloaded with stress at a way-too-early age when people are dying all around you, and you might be next? How hard it must be to see past that blunt reality, to find school success more worthy of aspiration than mere street survival skills. To even imagine what the alternative would be like, or that there is an alternative at all. Still, I think OCtoCincy has a good point that if you don't fall into the poor black male with a rap sheet (inflated as it may be) demographic, then you have little to fear in the way of being murdered in Cincinnati. That doesn't mean anyone deserves to be murdered. It just means the fears, of those from more privileged demographics, of living in or venturing into the city are bogus.

The parking lease is a done deal, too, so Cranley's campaign is all about opposing settled issues. I doubt he can cobble together a majority of votes based on pessimism and anger, when his opponent's campaign is about optimism and vision. The angry people are very vocal, but as we saw with the past few elections where the streetcar was at the forefront, the average person who opposes the streetcar only does so mildly, and isn't going to vote against Qualls because of it. I suspect the same goes for the parking lease. Qualls is a juggernaut in Cincy politics. (And so is the streetcar! :D Choo-choo! (LOL))

That's the number for the city proper. If you include the entire MSA, it's probably under 45. For comparison, the YTD for 2011 was 38 (city proper).

Pet Peeves!
Gays lived with it for centuries (many still do). But, yes, it's an unhealthy position to be in. So I'll submit a pet peeve: straight people who don't want gay people to publicly acknowledge their sexuality/orientation.

Yeah, I know they fail. Which is why I picked those specific brands for their reputation of reliability. A lot of SSDs have a reputation for failing long before they are worn out from writes. Especially drives with Sandforce controllers.

What type of SSD failed? I have Intel and Samsung SSDs; I picked them for reliability.
