Cincinnati: Mayor John Cranley
The thing he said to Renn that most appealed to me, his suggestion that a metro government is a bad idea because in the long run it's better to have a denser city, he turned around and said the opposite a couple weeks later, that he would support merging with the county to eliminate redundancies and save costs.

As usual, the first page of this thread is quite entertaining. Lots of skepticism and speculation. The prescience award goes to edale.

Right, it's totally worth it. But I won't deny these will be ugly.

Did they have the etched glass panels up already? Either way, I wasn't really impressed with the initial renderings. Me neither. These things are destined to be eyesores. Dusty's right about this.

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
I definitely find it to be a pain when I use my bike to get somewhere and then start going other places with people who don't have bikes. Just locking and unlocking, walking the bike, etc. gets tiresome. And then someone might want to drive somewhere, and instead of being dropped off at home you have to get dropped off at your bike or leave it overnight and risk it being stolen.

He's not trying to save face; he is trying to manipulate and capitalize on populist sentiment. And, yes, divide & conquer bike/bus/rail supporters.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The Banks will never get built. The streetcar doesn't even go anywhere. If I could use it to get to a Reds game or the casino, I might support it. But it doesn't even go in downtown. Are they still planning to spend several million to move the fountain?

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
It's hard to believe that UConn team just beat UCF a few weeks ago. UC just blanked them, 41-0. The announcer said it's the first time they were shutout at home since 1978. None of their other games this season were so uncompetitive. Unfortunately, USF lost to Memphis. Who does Memphis face next week for their final game? UConn! Unless the UConn that faced UCF shows up next week and pulls off another major upset, UC will lose the head-to-head stats to Memphis for the top of the conference. As UC has had a five-game winning streak (including the big win versus ECU), I am left wondering if we didn't just get unlucky facing Memphis early in the season, as our first conference game, before hitting our stride. Memphis is probably also asking themselves that and feeling pretty lucky. Boy, does the AAC need a championship game. But you know what? So does the Big XII! Come on, fellas.

Off Topic
This was in the Tenderloin, which instantly makes me think there's a good chance this guy is mentally ill. That's no excuse, but certainly not the norm. The story says the attacker fled in a car, meaning he had the presence of mind to dip and a base level of wealth to own a car.

Newport, KY: Newport on the Levee: Development and News
Actually, that hotel has some signature elements of Aloft brand hotels. I wonder if they're trying to lure them? Nailed it! I'm actually really glad we didn't end up with an Aloft at the Banks. They're really cheap wannabe-chic hotels. PERFECT fit at the Levee. It would've fit well at the Banks next to that awful architecture too, but I'm holding my breath for something better. Good call :) I think it's a good fit for the Levee, but I don't see why the longer part can't be fronting the street. Just twist it 180 degrees!

Okay, you tempted me to click. For those who'd rather not: The comments are mostly people saying "Zzzzzzzzzzzzz," and out of the 7 total comments there isn't a single one that isn't essentially saying "this is trivial non-news." The article itself even admits "this was expected."

Ridesourcing
There is a broader issue here, bigger than Uber and misogyny. Companies amassing huge collections of data on people could make use of that data to silence critics and threaten free speech.

Hmm, I didn't think of that. Good point. A lot of things had to go right that did (e.g. what if ECU had kicked for 1 instead of going for and missing those two 2-pt. conversions). Just enough went right to offset a whole lot that went wrong (5 turnovers?!). But how about that clutch kick by Gantz? That could have been 95% less true and still made it through the uprights.
