Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The political representatives of those opposed to the streetcar chose the ballot language. You can't fault streetcar supporters with accepting the votes as affirming the streetcar when the opponents were asserting over and over throughout both campaigns (and the signature-gathering) that the proposed amendments were about the streetcar. If opponents wanted to have a streetcar vote, they could have done that. That's not what they did. But their campaigns were about the streetcar, and their campaigns lost twice. At some point a functioning democracy needs to consider the issue settled. Keep in mind that pro-streetcar council majorities have been elected multiple times, with being pro-streetcar a prominent aspect of candidates' campaign platforms. As for your question about ordering the streetcars, why should they not have ordered them? Wouldn't it be absurd to have the tracks finished and be waiting on the streetcars? Once the streetcar barn is built, they can sit there and wait for everything else to be done. It seems you are buying into the idea that all bets should be hedged on whether or not the line is complete, which really infers that city leaders should not be committed to its completion. Practically everyone with any say in the matter was elected on a platform stating their commitment to seeing this project completed. We need the cars. Order them when you can!

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Seriously? That sounds like a terrible idea guaranteed to backfire. Horstman is a troll but if you start witch-hunting him then you're playing right into his hairy hands. Totally agree..terrible idea! He sure lives in a sweet location, though. Quiet street, with about a 30 second walk to Mt. Lookout Square via hillside steps. Or, in Barry Horstman speed, about a millisecond walk.

European guy, need some help with my college in OH.
A lot of your questions are very specific and people here won't know the answer. We would have to look it up, which you can do yourself, so you probably won't find anyone willing to do that. I was a foreign student abroad for a few years, so I have some experience, but that won't necessarily translate to being a foreign student in the U.S. and the state of Ohio in particular. You may know this, but a lot of American laws are left to the states to determine certain things. In-state tuition would be one of them. I know that in the current state I live in, American students can get in-state tuition after a year of attending school. I don't know if that applies to international students. Ohio might be different, for example time spent in school might not count for time towards in-state residency calculations. Your student visa alone would probably not let you work under most circumstances. There are some ways, I think through "work-study programs", where international students may work using the student visa, but this would limit where and how much work you can do. Getting a work permit along with your visa may be difficult (might be easy, too); I don't know anything about that for the USA. This might not be the best forum for you to ask these questions. Try finding an expat forum, or there might even be an international student forum. And you might luck out and find someone who knows all about being an international student in Ohio. Again, though, you should contact the college. Just copy/paste your questions from here into an email to the college.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I finally voted in the poll on top of the page. Is that cheating? Either other people did the same, or you guys know your team pretty well. I still can't believe the Bengals both lost a game to the Browns and made it to the playoffs. Better luck next year. Hopefully Weeden can hit a stride.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
That exact question wound up in the discussion that stretched this page. Basically, no, it won't. But it might get some transparent red mesh-or-something panels which don't cover much of anything up. Truly horrendous. The non-garage stuff is bad enough. CUF needs a community council with some balls. Now. So does Corryville, for that matter.

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
natininja replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationFor some reason, I often forget Mt. Auburn is considered part of Uptown. It's kind of weird because it doesn't have the rather distinct boundary CUF has with Downtown. Pill Hill makes a lot of sense being Uptown, but Prospect Hill feels more like a part of Pendleton/downtown. Mt. Auburn is sort of bipolar, while CUF has a clear core further up the hill.

natininja replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and Preservation^ Uptown has been a name for part of the city as long as I have been alive. No rebranding there.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
I think the stat counts where the body is located. Might count when the body is located, too. Like if a body is found today that was killed a couple days ago, I don't think that 53 retroactively rises to 54. I might be wrong on both counts, though.

You should really shoot an email with these questions to the admissions office at the college. I am pretty confident I know some of the answers which you seek, but I am not the person you should be asking. 1) You will not be eligible for in-state tuition because you haven't been living in the state for a certain period of time. That might change after a year or so, I'm not sure of the rules on that. But definitely not in the beginning. 2) You can apply for scholarships. It is possible that after you are awarded a scholarship your financial aid will be reduced, since your need will be perceived to be less. Just apply for the aid you need and all the scholarships you can find and you should be okay. If you want to worry about it, only worry about it after you have been awarded the scholarship(s). The college may contact your lenders, or you may have to report the scholarship funds you receive on your financial aid forms. But the main thing to focus on now is getting the money you need, and especially money you will not have to pay back! Good luck.

Gays & Historic Preservation
I don't see much connection between urban preservation gays and hairstylists. I guess they share a common thread of aesthetics, but the main thing operating for the preservationists is lacking children at a stage in life where money is not a problem. Cutting hair is wholly unrelated. Actually, as I think about it, if you aren't devoting a lot of time to taking care of children, you might have an unfulfilled desire to contribute to lives or society somehow. So I guess hairstyling is on the very personal level, and preservation is on the community level. This is probably something the author goes into; I didn't read the link yet.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
It is a bureaucratic issue which arises as a result of technology being used. If you use license plate cameras + mail as the primary means of collecting tolls from people without transponders, you run into this bureaucratic wall. The way I addressed the topic might make more sense if you read the past couple pages.

Finally getting around to reading this article about tolling lanes on 75... http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20121222/BIZ/312220070/Enquirer-exclusive-Ohio-pondering-fees-using-lanes-75-other-highways Out of state plates are an issue for these technologies, however much you guys shrug it off. If Kasich pushes all these tolling schemes through, my opinion of him will change greatly and for the better. Killing 3C was terrible, but introducing user fees for Ohio's roads is similarly important to the state's future. And it just may act as an impetus to push Average Johioan to support intercity rail.
