CVG: Delta and Comair news
^ We kind of are alone. From that report: The most significant decreases were experienced at Cincinnati (-63.1 percent), Pittsburgh (-40.1 percent), and Memphis (-35.5 percent). We had a 57% greater percent decline than Pittsburgh, who came in second place for lost flights (6/07-6/12).

Whoever it is will be caught. You can't keep doing something like that and not get caught. Let's just hope it's sooner rather than later.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
I am definitely not a supporter of the move at this juncture, but I am waiting to see what gives. I can definitely envision a proposal that I would support. If a company were to offer a major technological advancement of our parking meters (one component being all of them accepting credit cards), and adhere to a demand-based pricing scheme, where pricing adjusts in order to fill each block with a target number of vehicles, I would likely support it. (The target being one or two cars shy of full, so there is always a spot for someone who wants it badly enough.) If a block won't fill regardless of price, then it is free to park there. By definition you do not scare people away from downtown, because the moment you do, prices lower. I would also favor this as a tolling scheme for the Brent Spence Bridge (the current one), with a target number of vehicles (time sensitive) equal to the highest number which can bring the bridge back from being functionally obsolete. IMO what currently goes on is equivalent to allowing as many people into a building as wants to come in, regardless of fire code capacity. No one should be entitled to that.

^ Okay, thanks. I usually ride on the smaller jets, so hopefully they aren't going away.

I'm all for historic preservation, but I wouldn't mind letting this one go. Or letting it go through some thorough alterations, e.g. WINDOWS!

Sorry for being ignorant, but what are the "mainline" and "express" services? And together do they make up all of United's flights in & out of CVG?

Completely incompetent live blog of the B$B meeting with LaHood, Kasich, and Beshear: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20121212/biz01/121212002 At least I think it is still going on, it hasn't been updated for about half an hour.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
Yeah, let's see what the terms of the deal are and see if they can be tweaked to people's liking before we all go crazy against it. I am very skeptical of the whole thing, partly because I don't think government should be run like a business. But the role-reversal here is such a classic highlight of hypocrisy. Same with that goddamn bridge. Cars are obviously a sacred cow entitlement for the anti-entitlement set.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
Yep, it's just knee-jerk opposition. It really annoys me how people who are usually all about privatizing everything are instantly against this because it is proposed by a Democratic administration.

Cincinnati: Parking Modernization
Not much info there. That table released by the city is completely pointless. I would like to at least see what the proposed lengths of the leases are. Another key piece of information lacking is the revenue share the city would receive under each proposal.

^ Wow. I wonder how much of that is vodka-fueled. It's interesting how a few of videos are shot from vehicles with cracked windshields BEFORE any of the craziness happens.

Moving back to Cincinnati
You must have learned something about how much you would or would not desire a career move to LA. That's part of the magic of the co-op: a low-commitment way to test out a possible career move.

2010 US Census: Results
Thanks. HamCo went from 429,267 in 2008 to 421,997 in 2012. A decrease of 1.7%. Source: http://boe.hamilton-co.org/elections/election-results.aspx From 2000-2010, HamCo's population decreased 5.1%, or 0.51% per year. Assuming that same rate from 2008-2012, there would be a population decrease of 2.04%, which is a 20% greater decrease than the 1.7% decrease in voter turnout. That would lead to the conclusion that: 1) 2012 drew a greater percentage of the population than 2008 (i.e. greater voter turnout), 2) more young people left than people of voting age, 3) more non-voters left than voters, or 4) population decrease was slower in the period of 2008-2012 than 2000-2010. Yes, it's probably reading too much into the data, and I'm sure there are better proxies (registered voters might be one of those). Still, since voter turnout decreased by 6.5% across the state of Ohio between those years (and 6.8% in the country overall), the numbers are encouraging.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
See a meter vandalized? Call 911 12:05 AM, Dec 9, 2012 Written by Carrie Blackmore Smith OVER-THE-RHINE — The average driver probably doesn’t mind, but parking officials, police and some merchants are fed up with the person – or persons – decapitating parking meters on the streets of this neighborhood. Meter tops began disappearing in June, Cincinnati Parking Facilities Superintendent Bob Schroer said. His staff has refitted more than 175 at a price tag of $35 each in hardware alone. “We’re seeing it pick up more and more.... On one street, I bet we replaced domes along there six times in the last nine weeks,” Schroer said. “Just Monday we counted 37 (without lids) and replaced 19 or 20.” Read more
