  1. My brother sent me a picture from the game and I commented that it looked like the seats were empty. But he said it was halftime, so I guess many people were up. Regardless, I would have expected a bigger crowd given they were playing the widely-considered top team in the conference
  2. Oh god, my heart is still recovering from that game last night. At least we have one quality win for the season (against a team that was ranked...at one time...lol).

The old model also includes lies, deception and extortion. No thank you, I'll keep Uber. Just build the tip into the service price and call it a day. Just to be clear, I was playing devil's advocate. But it does seem that if you want to drive for a tip-based agency, you can just drive a regular cab. I'm sure it sucks to have Uber and Lyft slashing fares, but it's not fair to expect consumers (who are meant to be enticed to use the service by these same lower fares) to pick up the slack. And to some extent it's what you get when you push for deregulated taxi service, aka ride sharing.

So maybe the taxi drivers are right, and Uber/Lyft are evil, and we should just keep the old model? Because the old model explicitly includes tipping, whereas the new model (in Uber's case, at least) explicitly excludes it.
  5. I think it has to do with city council passing an open data law.
  6. ^ Wow, thanks for typing that all out.

I actually tried to look this up a few weeks ago! Best I could get is "a type of Pompadour." I found it by querying about Macklemore.
  8. Emergency! Plug in that phone!
  9. Is it worse than these? https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1273673,-84.5147686,3a,75y,148.22h,93.11t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1swPOoP480ufmY370o5NR9Ow!2e0
  10. I forgot to add that we were at 7th & Walnut, looking at the tracks. Somehow that was not "downtown". Please tell me you pointed this out. I mean, I could see you avoiding contradicting her without immediate proof at your disposal. But not simply inquiring along the lines of "what neighborhood are we in?" (downtown) "what are those?" (streetcar tracks) "does downtown have streetcar tracks in it?" (yes) would be too much of an opportunity for me to pass up.
  11. ESPN...
  12. Like I said, it might not hold up in court. (Though apparently they do it in Athens?) But it doesn't have to be so simple as using a chalk mark alone to indicate a violation. When the meter reader chalks a vehicle, they record it electronically. Maybe snap a pic of car & license plate w/ cellphone, mark the GPS location. There has to be a creative way to enforce the law that doesn't involve installing infrastructure.
  13. Having meter readers put chalk marks on tires is one way to keep track of how long cars are parked. Might be thrown out in court, but it works in some places. Sort of like how the Dutch put stickers on bicycles -- then a few days later remove the ones that still have stickers. I like having a small fee for 24 hours. Probably wouldn't be too controversial. I would hope we'd use printouts for windshields instead of installing a ton of meters.
  14. How about we include the rest of the Mill Creek Greenway plan with this wasteful ramp?
  15. If, OTOH, someone wants to put a hotel at the Incline District they will get some handsome incentives. ;) I think this is smart...there should be a hotel at the Banks, but it should be able to do fine without city money.

It would be interesting to see an analysis of NKY bar business vs. Cincy bar business since the ban's implementation. I'd be hesitant to say the smoking ban has played a huge role, but it seems like the CBD and Over-the-Rhine are doing better and Newport on the Levee and Mainstrasse are worse or roughly the same as the early aughties. At the least we can say the smoking ban has not prevented the rise of OTR or made NKY nightlife take off. The opposite might be true, however.
  17. $1 for 2 hours. Niiiiice. Do you feel like that is the likely fare we'll be looking at in September '16?
  18. Parking revenue now goes into the General Fund and is spent in a thousand different ways. I doubt there's a problem. Plus, parking meters are voluntary. You don't have to use them. You don't have to purchase a residential permit, either, but it would only be OTR residents subject to such a fee -- whereas meters could collect money from anyone. My understanding is that "people who live in OTR" is not considered a fair group to target with fees extending beyond the minimum required to sustain a service, while "people who choose to park at an OTR meter" is not (likely to be) seen (by the courts) as a "targeted group." This is my interpretation of John Curp's interpretation re: parking fees as revenue generators.
  19. Interesting that Cranley would be involved in developing a plan which conceptually depends on the streetcar working as intended.
  20. Blame Tarbell and Tim Burke for missing the deadline.
  21. He has not been above politicking (far from it). However, if he had a big role in coming up with this plan, that deserves respect.
  22. Dynamic like SFPark? We'll see meter rates adjusted based on demand? Sounds like it! Could it be Cranley's plan turns out better than Mallory's? BTW, SFPark caps increases but not overall rates.
  23. Huh, that sounds good. Now I am not so concerned about the meters being active until 9 on Sundays. I like that the plan is designed to capture property value increases brought on by the streetcar itself. Lots of smart stuff going on here. I would love to see a similar funding structure considered for highways.
  24. With Green back and Sanu quite healthy, I doubt Little will pose much threat to the Brownies. Y'all probably needed him more than we do. And "probably" is an understatement. I'm not sure what the Bengals people were thinking when they picked up another Wide Receiver.
  25. Thanks Sani! Welcome to UrbanOhio, if I haven't welcomed you yet! I haven't listened to the music yet, but I am afraid because the old music was so awesome.
