As for your question, I am no expert, but I know someone who bought a historic mixed-use building (an architect, mind you), and only after getting elbow-deep in renovation (tearing the place apart and whatnot) did certain structural issues become apparent. So my advice would be to expect the unexpected, since even a long-practicing architect, who hired a trusted engineer to examine the property, can be caught off guard with the extent of work necessary. I get the impression this is possible because you can't look at the structural bones of a building you haven't already invested in, since it requires some destruction.

Not because Republicans support it. I'm afraid it will not succeed and it will serve as a political barrier for projects that would succeed. ^ I don't know if the conspiracy aspect is correct. They may think it's a good idea, because they don't have a good understanding of rail and what makes it successful. But whether they support it because they want it to fail or they support it because they think it will succeed, the possibility is real that it will serve as an example of failure for rail opponents to exploit.

Does anyone remember where the Phantasy Emporium used to be? I know it was up there in that NBD. I used to walk up there as a kid and buy RPG stuff. Can't remember exactly where it was, though. The store eventually moved to somewhere no longer in walking distance and I stopped going. For some reason CityBeat used to put in joke ads for Phantasy Emporium, I believe long after it closed. Maybe they still do.

Jmeck had an analysis on UrbanCincy stating the annual operating costs would be about the same as for 3C. Hard to imagine people who thought that was too much money for a cross-state line will ever warm up to this. I guess time will tell. My feeling is it would make more sense to invest in a line which has more potential nodes for TOD and more existing residential and commercial destinations along the entire line.

We need more European companies to set up shop in the city. They have a longer view and care about more than immediate fiscal concerns.
