  1. Congrats, Brownies. The Bengals are much worse this year than I ever expected them to be.
  2. Sorry, it's just that it keeps getting brought up. It's been debunked several times and yet it continues to be talked about.
  3. Not on UO, but I hear people saying it. It is featured prominently on CincinnatiUSA.com, too, in the "Uniquely Cincinnati USA" section: http://cincinnatiusa.com/diningandshopping/packageresults.asp?DPID=3 Who cares if it was an early expansion area? Not people interested in having unique Cincinnati food. It's common enough to be a pet peeve of mine. Especially since I don't like White Castle's food.
  4. Anyone know when the last time was the Bobcats cracked the top-25? Is this a first?
  5. ^ Thank you. It's not a goddamn parking garage! Seriously, folks, let's drop that idea. WTH?
  6. I don't get why some people think White Castle is a Cincinnati thing. Even after the Harold & Kumar movie. They think it's like Skyline or something.
  7. Congrats, guys. Welcome to the big boys' league.

I am really pulling for the Tigers.

Do you have a good virus scanner?
  10. I don't see KY on the list.

I have at least one social media friend who has died. Her "wall" serves as a shrine for people to post old images and would-be-birthday greetings, etc. I don't see why it should be taken down.
  12. "Mirror image", maybe, if you don't include the southern block.
  13. ^^ Pretty sure it's residential. The second phase has as many residential units as the first phase (300), yet it covers a smaller area. Plus if you look at the renderings it has balconies, which you wouldn't expect an office building to have (not that one couldn't).

+1 I really thought this could be the year. The Reds are a better team than all the contenders but the Nats. Can't help but feel if Votto were on top of his game, things would have gone differently. Also if Cueto didn't suffer his freak injury.
  15. Good discussion here. I am no fan of Sittenfeld, but his position makes some sense to me (even if I don't agree with it). He looks at 4-year terms as a decrease in democracy and a ward system as an increase. If you abstract democracy into a currency, it makes sense. Give up some in term length (for gains in campaign costs, focus on governing, etc.) and make up for that loss of democracy by increasing it through a ward system.

^^ I'm a subscriber. I'm gonna make it. I'm not gonna give up. Keep on subscribing! Keep up the awesome work ;-)
  17. ^^ Hmm, I wonder how antiSemitic Ohioans are. Cincinnati and its suburbs have a high Jewish population (birthplace of the American Reform movement), and I don't think many people view them negatively at all. I don't know if you meant the Cincy burbs when you were referring to "deep red, downstate parts", or if you were thinking of more rural areas with less exposure to Jews.
  18. Just to muddy the waters a bit, I will point out that whites still make up a plurality of Cincinnatians (for now). I agree about there being a greater level of tension in recent years (and probably part of that is due to whites still wielding more power), but my point is that in a democracy even a small majority/plurality can make a comparison become apples-and-oranges. Obviously, Cincinnati is far from being the "white city" arenn was talking about in his blog post. Interesting side-note: we now have a majority-black city council (first ever, I think), and the only two non-Democrats on council are black: a Republican and a formerly-Democratic independent. Additionally, the current mayor, city manager, chief of police, and fire chief are all black. Hopefully this helps heal some of the recently gaping wounds. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh just might qualify as a "white city": (via Wikipedia)

If SF can swing back from a 9-0 defeat, the Redlegs can swing back. But this is not going as I thought it would after performing so well without the homefield advantage.
  20. ^^ I think you're spot-on. The attacks from the suburbs, suburban-elected politicians, and suburban-financed groups like COAST has led to a lot of pro-city organization and forced people to choose sides in the debate. Progressive urbanism has been a hot-button, front-and-center issue in the city for a few years now, and Cincinnatians do not show any sign of backing down from their pro-progress agenda. There is, of course, a long way to go. And the suburban interests have, indeed, proven relentless and somewhat resourceful. And as progressive as city government is at the moment, they are still tearing down our historic building stock at a breakneck pace. Still, the progress and the hunger for more is palpable, and as successes pile up it should only grow.
  21. Not just Mallory vs. Kasich, but Mallory vs. Shannon Jones and Steve Chabot, too. The suburbs are actively trying to undermine the city. And it's not because Cincinnatians are supporting pro-sprawl politicians. If that were true, there wouldn't be a super-majority of streetcar supporters on city council.

9-0. Love it! Arroyo was amazing. Hitting was on point. Everything clicked. Keep it up!
  24. I think Google is wrong. And I guess I was wrong, thinking Fries' is in Clifton.
  25. Ok so I guess Clifton goes all the way to Vine on W. Nixon. That simplifies things, assuming it's right. Puts the whole block of Nixon/Bishop/MLK/Vine in Clifton. I'm pretty sure all of Burnet Woods is in Clifton, though, which puts that map into a little bit of doubt.
