This is Jack Painter (according to the email address in his profile). He was recently appointed to the Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) board. http://www.jackpainter.com/ So basically the Cato Institute.

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
natininja replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationZoning in OTR should be such that creating a new surface lot requires a (hard to get) variance. Isn't there anything in place that allows such a plan to be fought? I mean beyond fighting the demolition permit.

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
Eastern Corridor rail isn't happening anyway. I agree this sort of came out of nowhere, though. And if the Oasis trail can be connected to what exists, it could also be connected to what would exist if this money were spent. We would definitely have benefited from some public debate on this and having all options, challenges, grant stipulations, etc., made explicit. Does anyone know how the 7-1 vote broke down? Who was against and who was absent (or abstained, but I'm guessing absent)?

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
Wouldn't the Oasis trail connect to the Lunken Airport trail? Why has there been a plan to do both? (Isn't that redundant?) It seems like the Oasis trail is easier/cheaper to build close to downtown, but both run pretty close to each other, so they could just be connected at the end of the current "Ohio River Trail"...yeah? The bottom line to me is git 'er dun. Why does this have to take forever? (I know: money. But it should carry higher priority than it obviously does.) Get the Mill Creek trail finished, too. The snail's pace on these bike trails is ridiculous. If Cranley wants to focus on trails instead of in-street facilities, he has some extremely low-hanging-fruit to pick from.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
These injuries are driving me up the wall. Burfict is out for at least a couple games. Green is back for the Jacksonville game, but Bernard is out. I can't keep track of who's playing week-to-week. I hope everyone's back if we get to the postseason, but I'm certainly not optimistic. Anyone have any opinions or predictions regarding Atkins getting back to 100%?

Cincinnati: Downtown: City Club Apartments / 309 Vine Redevelopment
Depends. I mean we just got a new tallest tower, and I don't think the rates were much lower then than now.

Ridesourcing
Has to be the first ride?

Cincinnati: Downtown: City Club Apartments / 309 Vine Redevelopment
Sure would be nice if they were to decide they want more space and completed the building as originally planned. :)

Cincinnati Enquirer
Should be interesting to see what comes of the new emphasis on covering urban design.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^ They would love it. They are the biggest attention whores around. They are getting off right now reading this thread because someone's talking about them.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
^^ I don't think there is animosity, but people will be skeptical of corruption. (The state is fine with NEO libs. See: Brown, Sherrod) Kasich is vulnerable (but not a pushover) to anyone but a complete lemon. The Dems put up a complete lemon.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Mercer Commons
This phrase makes zero sense to me. Are there three languages in there? I'm glad they thought about the interior, but I'm still completely lost on it. I'm excited to finally have a living room though. I can't wait to bring popcorn, wear my Snuggie and sit at one of those booths browsing Buzzfeed on my laptop all night. Okay do you or do you not actually own a Snuggie? I have a Bearcats Snuggie. ProkNo5 is welcome to borrow it!

Middletown
Very nice. Lots of potential in Middletown and its neighbor Hamilton. The two of them could work together to make a nice urban alternative to Cin-Day sprawl. Middletown could hugely benefit from a Cincy-Dayton commuter rail stop.

Off Topic
If a mod wants to get ambitious, this cat-calling thing probably deserves its own thread.

Panhandling/Scamming stories
Thanks for editing the topic. They do not bother me that much, and I try not to make assumptions about them. But I never give any money. Sometimes I give people things, like food or a bus pass.

Panhandling/Scamming stories
Just a request, but could you (linotypist[/member]) edit the topic to take the judgement/editorializing out? It's fine in your post, but I don't like the idea of posting in a thread that forces a harsh idea by its very name.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Mercer Commons
I'm curious to see what the staff will be forced to wear.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
^^ Funny the streetcar is mentioned as a benefit but not the fact it's located literally at THE transit hub for the region.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
With the way the weather is these days, that sort of predictability is up in the air. Hard to believe the 20-year anniversary of the 1997 flood is in 2.5 yrs.

I'll just point out that this restaurant has more people talking about the design than any other restaurant I've seen on this board. It does look ridiculous, but I don't find it particularly offensive as a whole. The whole is certainly greater than the sum of its (sometimes offensive, always ridiculous) parts.

Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
2 losses within the division. Both have a loss to Baltimore and a loss to each other. That's what I took Ram23 to be saying, anyway. (Also, Baltimore has two losses within the division! w00t!)

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Ah, the broken streetcar shelter windows policy.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
^ I agree with you for the long term, but with the sales taxes the survey was asking about, the margins are close enough that just a little bit of education on the topic could go a long way. But if Tom Luken gets to frame the discussion so we're defending pork chops instead of championing the benefits of county transit funding enjoyed by Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, Akron, and Toledo, then we are pointlessly treading water. After all, it is with improvements like those that can be made with county funding (on a level the survey shows present support for) that will allow the value of transit to be demonstrated to an inexperienced public. Imagine if every NBD had at least one attractive bus shelter with a realtime arrival display.

Greater Cincinnati Metro (SORTA) and TANK News & Discussion
People need to learn some facts, like how abnormal it is that the county doesn't throw in any funding for SORTA versus what is normal across the state and elsewhere. It's an uphill battle, but many local voters are simply not equipped with the information they need to make informed decisions. Cincinnatians for Progress, Believe, and others can get the boots on the ground, the OpEds, etc., necessary to beat the inevitable misinformation campaign, but we all need to be proactive and not reactionary.
