    Is she single?
  2. I think you're missing what some of us are saying, which is that Kroger should adopt more of a Whole Foods/Trader Joe's-scale concept at these locations. The idea that this level of density of upgraded/renovated Kroger stores is not economical is based on the assumption of suburban-scale stores, which is precisely what I and others were complaining about. Kroger needs a paradigm shift in its thinking about catchment area, commensurate with the design of the neighborhoods where its stores are located. Why do we need a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's to replace Kroger, when Kroger should be capable of providing stores to properly accommodate urban areas (and not act as a suburbanizing influence)?

Agreed. We should pick a GBV song for State Rock Song, like Oklahoma did with "Do You Realize" by the Flaming Lips. What to pick, what to pick... How's My Drinking? Weed King I am Scientist - a more serious suggestion I think this is the right answer. The lyrics are unusually straightforward, not at all controversial, and the song is palatable/digestible for a wide audience. And it's (for these reasons) probably their most well-known song off their most well-known album. Anything else would be too obscure, too weird, too offensive, or too challenging to the ears.
  5. Just received this email response from Karla Plank:

Bill Doss of Olivia Tremor Control and Sunshine Fix died last week. I was really looking forward to the new album OTC was supposedly working on. RIP http://onlineathens.com/local-news/2012-07-31/olivia-tremor-controls-bill-doss-dead-43 Dusk at Cubist Castle and Black Foliage are two of my favorite albums ever.
  7. I don't know anything about these people, but what's posted in that bulletin makes a ton of sense and I would bet it is the way the council members see the issue. On the bright side, this is probably the most attention and excitement anyone on Blue Ash city council has seen since they've been in office.
  8. I think if they were interested in adding to neighborhoods they would not object to connecting Vine with Short Vine and they would make that store more urban-friendly. Kroger doesn't own university plaza or the buildings. Anchor properties does. IIRC it is Kroger which doesn't want Vine to connect. It doesn't matter if they don't own the property/buildings, they are an important enough tenant to call shots.

  10. ^ Make sure to bring a model of a streetcar to throw at the target.
  11. I sent an email to the councilmembers urging them to ignore the cries from the overzealous and irrational vocal minority and vote for what is best for Blue Ash and the region -- support the restructuring of the airport sale.
  12. I wish Pichler and 3CDC would create an urban grocery strategy for the urban core.
  13. Agreed. It doesn't make any sense for anyone to back out. These people are really displaying their irrationality, because -- streetcar or not -- both parties in this sale benefit from the restructuring. The holy war against the streetcar has reached a new level here in the sense that the merits of this deal have zero to do with the streetcar, but they are trying to make the connection to a party (BA council) which has every reason to be dispassionate about where Cincinnati invests the money.
  14. Which projects are those? No single project benefits "all the people who live and work in the city and use city streets and police services". Certainly not any of those they identified.
  15. ^ Any relation to yourself? ;-)
  16. Cincinnati is currently doing a feasibility study. It seems likely to happen. The question is how soon. The hills kind of limit the area in which it is feasible, I believe. Too much one-way flow would be problematic.
  17. Kroger is easily a contender for most anti-urban force in the city. They actively undermine complete neighborhoods with their superstore business strategy and horrific urban design. Everyone needs a grocery store, and if you can't easily shop at one without a car, even if you can do everything else without one, car ownership will be very tempting.

2/3 ain't bad, but 3/3 would've sent a powerful message. Anyway, I'll take it. 4.5 games up, and still the best current record in MLB.
  19. Oops, I meant to put that in the favorite quotes thread. Good stuff!
  20. Wow, what an awful development.
  21. Winning! Lol. Wouldn't mind him running, could be good publicity for the city. Obviously, he would lose.

Indie kids from the 90s became hipsters as the millennium turned. I don't think there was a point you can say was the transition, it just became more popular to be an indie kid and the term came about.
  23. I didn't mean to make it sound official or give it credence, I was just saying that type of thing would end someone's career. In the technical sense of the word, it was an allegation.
