  1. That is bs, they would never have spent so much effort to stop the streetcar if they though it weren't srs bsns. Tell him to go play Duke Streetcar Forever. (As in Duke Energy, of course.)
  2. Wish I could make it. Also wish the Whigs were playing. GbV is better though!

I have always said Dayton was the biggest benefactor of the 3C proposal. I'm not sure why the state reps from Dayton did not speak up more about it. Maybe they did, behind closed doors. Anyway, Dayton really needs a rail link to Cincinnati. And if they can get one to Columbus, too, they could become a much more attractive and enjoyable option for Ohioans who want a link to a bigger city, but for whatever reason have something pulling them towards Dayton. (People like Jeffrey, for instance.) (And as a bonus Columbus could cease being the largest city without a link to the national rail network.) Chicago-Milwaukee, Boston-Providence, Baltimore-DC...these pairs benefit greatly from rail connections.

^ Agreed! I believe I posted about that, but maybe not in this (the most appropriate) thread.
  5. ^^^ And to avoid the problems people were pointing out with the Ohio video trying to show off too much at once, it would be smart for localities to do their own campaigns. Maybe the state could allocate money to distribute for this purpose, and/or partner with localities. As for the growing/shrinking thing, if Cincinnati could have captured 5-10% of growth in the metro, rather than losing >10% of its population from 2000-2010, it would have bolstered the tax base and allowed for more investment in things to attract more people, which could easily have a significant impact on state growth. All that tax money flowing into the burbs does little to enhance the state.
  6. I think we should look at migration patterns and target advertising to places where there is a high in-migration to a specific area. For example, I remember seeing that there is a large amount of people moving from the Detroit area to Cincinnati. It would make sense to then figure out what it is Detroiters like about Cincinnati that is making them move there, and creating an ad campaign around those strong points and playing the campaign in the Detroit area. Same thing would work with tourism, if the data exists. I also think we should advertise our cities to Ohioans, like the NYC campaign surfohio mentioned. Especially Cincinnati, since it has a growing metro but shrinking city. (Columbus has both growing and Cleveland has both shrinking, so those cities might have less potential to benefit.) Campaigns that stress the possibility of a quality urban education may be effective, for example.

^ I think people just want the highway to conform to the city, rather than the other way around. If that means making the 6th street expressway a little less efficient, so be it.

I'm not a big fan of the smell, but a few horses has nothing on hundreds of cars and buses, in terms of overall unpleasantness.
  9. ^ Does that list actually exclude anywhere in the park?
  10. natininja replied to a post in a topic in Urbanbar
Horses enabled cities, and were a part of downtown Chicago from before Chicago had a name. Sorry you don't like tourists/people not doing srs bsns. They make your city better.
  11. Hellz yeah, that would be amazing.

    ^ LOL, love it.
  13. ^^ Not kidding, I love it!
  14. ^^^^ Long hoses. ^^ The goddamn banks always be holding up the goddamn Banks. On a serious note, big city banks are not exactly progressive, either. They still loooove parking.

Awesome! Hope they treat you better than the Enquirer!
  16. ^^ Sorry, I wasn't targeting you specifically. Welcome to UrbanOhio!!
  17. I hope they use similar music to the park videos if they do streetcar ones.
  18. I saw somewhere recently that the estimated completion is now late 2014. I also saw an old thread where UncleRando was saying in 2007 that city leaders were saying 2009 (but UR was more "realistic" with a prediction of 2010. Haha.) It keeps getting pushed back, and the rate of work seems like molasses. You'd think all utilities could be working on relocation simultaneously.
  19. Can we please move on and stop demonizing the homeless advocates? At least until they do something again you don't like? Displacement and marginalization are legitimate concerns, and trying to make sure the underprivileged have a voice is a legitimate endeavor. These folks might be misguided, but they don't deserve all this continued ire. Not only is it boring and futile, but you're giving the protest way more attention than it merits. By continuing to talk about it, you are frankly doing their bidding. No one else is talking about it (ie the media), and most people probably completely missed their presence.

^ Were you visiting MTS? Are you Thing #2?
  21. If I were a west sider wanting to stay near friends and family on the west side, and I wanted to live closer to my (well-paying) job downtown, with maximum car-ownership convenience, I might consider this place. That's the only way I could see it!

Those 2011 population estimates are based on new methodology, where county level change is extrapolated to municipalities within counties. Since HamCo shrank at a much smaller rate than Cincinnati from 2000-2010, I would not place too much faith in the 2011 estimates.
  23. Jmeck, I never saw this reply from you in the Cincinnati Southern thread. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,19947.msg600167.html#msg600167 Are you sure PFCs were used to lay track on DC's silver line?
  24. I am afraid they will just be able to shake the Etch-a-Sketch. Similar to the way they seem to have rinsed their hands of being stadium tax proponents, to the extent that a lot of people absurdly blame city Democrats.

Let me dedicate edition 3000 of my spam-called-posts to you, Rob, and say I am sincerely glad that episode is by and large behind you now.
