  1. ^my bad, it came up in a google search about a different STL-related topic. :)
  2. The author of that article, Bill McClellan, is a Chicago native, not a St. Louis native. And please, people, it was a joke. Lighten up.
  3. ^lol, not quite. Panera's world headquarters are in St. Louis and the chain was originally called the St. Louis Bread Company nationwide. St. Louis is the only market where the name was never changed to Panera. It's the same company.
  4. This is my first thread in over a year. Today probably wasn't the best day to take pics due to the overcast weather, but who cares. These were taken all over the city: North Side, South Side, West End, Downtown, and plenty of places in between. Hope you enjoy because I miss this shit! "Huh?" The pants? I dig.
  5. ^I love the questions you've asked. Cleveland is a city very much like St. Louis in so many ways. It's not a city that screams out at you; instead, it's a city you have to discover. To use a cliche, Cleveland is an onion. It has depth, layers. It's a city you need to dig a little to get to know. What do I like about Cleveland? I like its hometown flavor. I love that it's big enough to offer a big city experience, yet it is digestible. I love that it tells a story. There is only one Cleveland. It doesn't try to be something it's not, and it isn't pretentious. It's Cleveland. It's the one and only Cleveland. Fuckin' A. My favorite Cleveland 'hoods: Shaker Square, Little Italy, Tremont. I love the feel of these 'hoods.
  6. clvlndr-- yes, I've been to Cleveland six times, most recently in September. I love Cleveland, and yes, it has an awful lot in common with St. Louis. Not only are they old industrial cities, but they are about the same size metros and have similar demographics as well. I definitely see the similarities between U. City and Cleveland Hts. U. City and Clayton also have a lot in common with Shaker Heights in my opinion. I hope you definitely take a trip to STL. If you love Cleveland, you'll love St. Lou! btw, U. City is indeed an inner-ring suburb (we call 'em inner-ring too)!

I live in the Central West End of St. Louis. My building has the green awning My digs
  8. **ALL NEW PICS** University City, known locally as U. City, is without question St. Louis' most interesting suburb. It sits on the western border of St. Louis City and has long been extremely diverse and liberal. It gets its namesake from Washington University, most of which is located in the suburb. With about 38,000 residents, U. City has high concentrations of African-Americans, Asians and Jews. It is the epicenter of Jewish culture in the St. Louis metro area, with more than 13 synogogues within its borders. On Saturday mornings there are Hasidic Jews EVERYWHERE. U. City is well served by 2 MetroLink rail stations and is home to the Loop, which is a very lively entertainment and dining district. Enjoy these pics...
  9. Some of those pics actually depict Windsor Terrace, which abuts PS. Connecticut Muffin is one of my favorite places in the world!
  10. One of the best 'hoods in BK. My sister lives nearby in Windsor Terrace.
  11. Please don't forget about me! I really need this info!
  12. Thanks so much, MayDay. I am working on a project and any info will really help me out.
  13. Hi everyone. I am interested in seeing what Cleveland's previous Official Seal looked like. I think the current one is really uninspiring, and I know it's not the original. Here's the present day Official Seal of Cleveland: Anyone know where I can find the original one? I wonder if it looks anything like the City Council's seal: Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!
  14. These pics rock my world (I'm Jewish too). New York is such a mecca for the Jew Crew.

Wow, you guys, I'm overwhelmed. Thank you so much. I am really excited to explore the Cleveland metro area. As much as we urbanites love cities, I also like seeing suburbs. I will definitely heed all your advice and see as much as I can in the time I have. Again, thank you so much, and if any of you are ever in Saint Louis, I'd be happy to make some suggestions myself.
  16. Hi, my wife and I will be in your town briefly on Labor Day. I have been to Cleveland several times and have enjoyed it, but this time I want to take a drive that will give me a good cross-section of the city and its most interesting suburbs. We don't have a lot of time there as we are stopping there on our way home from New York. But there are some places that have piqued my interest: Lorain Ave -- is this a good drive? I have heard it was. Shaker Heights -- I actually have cousins here, what's the best drive from downtown? Lakewood -- been there, but what's the best drive to get there? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
