  1. If your income is low enough to be eligible, you could try applying for an affordable housing unit through Detroit Shoreway CDC. I've been in a couple of the buildings and they are quiet and very well maintained. Most of them are on Detroit and Franklin in or near Gordon Square. Rents are in the ballpark of $300-500. PM if you want more details.
  2. I've always wanted to see a Living Wall installed on the Standard's backside.
  3. I don't have any pictures to share, (because the Uber app is a battery killer!) but this was the most incredible event I've ever attended in Cleveland. Unreal :)
  4. Bialosky+Partners has updated/altered massing renderings on the Intesa project page of their website that I've never seen featured or posted anywhere before. http://www.bialosky.com/projects/intesa.php The new(?) schematics show the office portion of the project shifted from the corner of Circle and Mayfield Rd to the edge of the property abutting the railroad overpasses and Mayfield. The "two" residential buildings seem to now be connected into one building that sits prominently at Circle and Mayfield and features "townhouses" on the top two floors. There's no parking garage or pedestrian bridge across Mayfield in these plans, either.
  5. ^^ what is the building to the left of the residential tower supposed to be?
  6. I #LUVCAK ... Could I get that in bumper sticker?
  7. First Federal Lakewood's announcement lists 6610 as their new location in Gordon Square. I walked by today and noticed that address currently belongs to Chase Bank. So, No more Chase in the neighborhood.
  8. A Kimpton Hotel topped with luxury apartments will fill the Schofield Building.
  9. I wonder if Le Méridien would make such an announcement without the financing being lined up first? I think Kimpton announced well before financing was finalized on Schofield. A video (from either WEWS or WOIO) announcing Heinens' move into the Rotunda and Swetland had Joe Marinucci from DCA saying "the T's are crossed and the I's are dotted on the Le Meridien deal and that it'd be announced shortly"..for whatever that's worth.
  10. I had to figure this one out when I bought my Wicked tickets last week, too. I ended up going with the Dress Circle B over the loge seats. It was a tough decision, but the DCB seats are row H, so I scooped those up. If they had been any further from stage, I'd have gone with the loge seats. This doesn't help at all, I guess...but it WAS a tough decision to make!
  11. Routing Apps like HopStop just use your location and do it all for you.
  12. ^I love this idea. To me, it would only add to Wendy Park's uniqueness as a recreation destination. And given the rate at which commercial development is occurring in the city, we're still probably a good 20-30 years out from *needing* the land the port currently occupies for development, so the slow process of building new land with dredgings would be acceptable. Plus, there aren't many(or any)potent constituencies in the immediate area that could protest the ports relocation to this site (presumably).
  13. I thought the second Market District was planned for Strongsville.
  14. I'm gonna -glass half full- this one and say Fitworks closing will be a positive development for the 5th Street Arcades. It's a pretty bare bones facility and the hours they keep aren't the most convenient. It's a "large space" by Arcade standards and is right inside one of the Euclid Ave. entrances, so I can see whatever moves in acting as an anchor of sorts.
  15. As far as eyesores on the lakefront go: Cargill Salt, the wastewater treatment plant, the silo thing at the mouth of the river, the Port of Cleveland, Burke, the East/West Shoreways, etc....not a pretty picture, so no sweat off my back if they throw up some wires and mast towers. As far the project being un-sustainable, how about we wait and see what the upcoming feasibility study says about Skylift's prospects. Oh, and 10degree days with 25mph winds probably happen all the time, high in the Alps, where this transportation technology was perfected.
  16. http://m-news.walgreens.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=5679 Repurposing an historic bank structure into a high-end grocery/retail store? Here's the model to follow, IMO. If Heinen's has similar ideas to this Walgreens concept in Chicago, I say hell yes.
  17. ^ I remember hearing from either here on the UO forum or from a radio interview with Art Falco that Playhouse Square also has its eye toward acquiring and redeveloping the Greyhound Station. Of course, speculating on where Greyhound could end up isn't appropriate for this thread, but there are potential oppurtunities for Greyhound to relocate soon, with everything going on downtown. We shall see.
  18. Owl City might be 'too hipster'. We should probably just stick with Ohio City.
  19. ^Owl city? That would be VERY hipster.
  20. I live in 'Micro Italy', (w67th )a couple blocks to the east of BP and I think the immediate neighborhood is very safe. I've been here for three years and overall haven't had any serious issues. Bums and drifters used to walk(stumble) through the neighborhood occasionally but that was mostly just on Detroit Ave and has all but ceased with the Downtown Cleveland Alliance and CPD always in the area. From a male perspective, perfectly safe to jog and otherwise be out and about. Of course, as with anywhere, always be aware of your surroundings. If something does spook you, you'll just run faster. :)
  21. In the last month or so, the museum has reopened the west galleries in the lower level of the 1916 building, the "In Focus" special exhibition gallery located on the south side of the atrium, another small special exhibition gallery under the atrium, and "Gallery One"- the new interactive digital galleries. The customizable ArtLens App is now fully operational as well, which uses RFID tags and IPads to guide visitors deep into the museum's Collection. I'm going to visit in the next few days and I'll try and get some photos that demonstrate exactly what Gallery One is...I got a sneak peek and it was fascinating! Here's a couple of the Collection Wall and the bamboo forest in the atrium that I pulled off my Instagram.
  22. ^ Regarding communal tables and suburbanites- the Chipotle on 303 in Brunswick is all communal tables and they seem to work fine.
  23. Maybe this isn't the best thread to ask in, but are any other properties downtown that are (almost) empty but not counted in downtown's vacancy rate? May Company?
