Cincinnati: Newport - Riverchase Condo Development
Call me crazy, but wasn't Riverchase apartment complex part of the area planned for the overall ovation project? I thought that Corporex was planning on trying to pick-up all the lots to the east including Riverchase and Travelodge. Wonder if this isn't just a play by the Riverchase owner to try to increase the asking price in negotiations with Corporex.

If you are going to send an email to Ms. Cole...be sure to spell her name right. It's Laketa! Not Lakita!

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
the group trying to lure Findlay Market tennants was in Bellevue. But you are pretty accurate in your overall assesment. But I don't see that as being a bad thing, that Newport is able to implement projects that get dropped in Cincy. While the county was bickering with the Reds/Bengals over parking revenue for 8 years delaying the banks project, would it have been better if Newport had NOT built the banks? That doesn't make any sense. The banks and development in Newport is good for Cincinnati. My parents come from teh 'burbs all the time to go to the levee, and when they do, they almost always make a trip over the river to Sawyer point with the grandkids, or combine it with a Reds game. Having that entertainment district draw is a good thing for the region, and will continue to be. The banks will still get done (once the bengals and reds realize it's in their best interest), but again, in the meantime making dirt move on Fountain Square was easier than getting things lined up on the banks. So instead of doing nothing, you do Fountain square first, then you continue movement on the banks, so it's continous progress. It's not this or that.. to be successful, fountain square, the banks and OTR development must ALL happen.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
why is it Cincy vs. NKY... I dont understand and never will... The Ohio River is simply a wonderful half mile wide boulevarde through the middle of ONE city. Sure Newport, Covington and Cincy all have their own governments, but it's a city as a whole! Also, on the comments about 'cincinnati' not being able to get anything done.. that's just inacurate. The problem with the banks has more to do with a bonehead parking contract the COUNTY signed with the Reds/Bengals than anything else. Once that is ironed out the parking garages will rise and soon the banks will be real... and 3CDC WILL make that happen.

Newport: Park Avenue
I hadn't seen this either.. Is there an address for this? I know they are planning on tearing down the housing development west of Taylor Southgate bridge and East of the Licking River for development. Perhaps this is the development they have planned?

Seems kind of odd that all 6 posts are all from May 25th... you'd almost have to think this was a campaign, or the same user posting multiple times.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
Great to see the coverings of Fort Washington Way are still in the plan. I think that is key to connecting the city back to the riverfront. I know there has been several news articles indicating allotments of state and federal money for the development of the park, but I know it doesn't amount to 78 million. Any idea what the financing gap is, how much in fed/state is allocated, and what we are going to need from the city/county to make this happen. I guess the target date of 2007 to start doesn't give me any warm feelings. It's just really disappointing that it's going to probably be another year and a half before any dirt is turned for the Banks or the park...

Norwood: Development and News
I guess I find it surprising that in this forum "Urban Ohio", which is focused on Urban development, there are so many that think that ED was misused here. If communities are not able to use ED for the common good/progress of the community, then you're never going to get Urban Infill projects. This is a triangle of land bordered on the South by a major shopping area, on the West and North by I-71, and on the East by a major road leading to an interstate on-ramp. Not exactly the most residential friendly area. If 62 out of 66 property owners is deemed as too low of a standard for determining 'common good', then I'd say people shouldn't be so surprised when new retail is added in the farm lands (West Chester, etc). I mean if you're a developer that is going to have sit on land for 2 years to start a project because you can't get the final 4 out of 66 to agree to well OVER market value for their property, then you might as well go to West Chester where you can buy a farm with only 1 owner. Do I think it is unfortunate that 4 property owners were 'forced' to leave? Sure I do, I feel especially bad for the one family who actually had to move (the 3 others, 2 businesses and a landlord). But this is a case of property owners holding a city and developer hostage, not the other way around. So when you get frustrated about new projects getting started in aging urban areas, keep in mind that negotiating the desires of dozens of property owners on top of the city planners and paperwork is certainly not attractive.

It's also sad, when a couple business owners hold 60 homeowners hostage and cause financial ruin for families that are trying to leave an area unfriendly to homes. Those business owners were looking for the big payday (which they got), while using the DC lawfirm who was representing them for free.

Little Miami Bike Trail
Funny what things people worry about as causing 'crime'. It's not like they are opening up a pony keg on the bike trail... anyway.... Does anyone have a good website for an overview of bike trail initiatives in Cincinnati. I've heard scattered news over the last year about different bike trail proposals. I'd love to see if there was an comprehensive collection of initiatives similar to this forum on Urban development issues. Joe Vist the Nati - http://thenati.blogspot.com
