Cleveland: 2013 Mayoral Race
I think that while Mayor Jackson has not been a visionary leader, he has provided stability at a time when the city needs it. He has been a good mediator between the different populations in the city and has provided predictability that is crucial to get developers to put their money to work in the city. After Frank is gone, Cleveland might be ready for a visionary leader but for the present he is what the city needs.

I believe it will be converted to market rate apartments and and the brick wall on the street level will be knocked out to form retail space.

Exploring Cleveland
I see these photos more as photos from your loved ones life that you hang on the wall after they are gone to remember them by. It is a way to celebrate the history and architecture of our cities rather than mourning their decline.

Ohio: GDP List & News
"Admittedly, I was going on memory/perception. I stand corrected. I still think CWRU's reputation is much lower than CMU's, regardless of rankings. Maybe they offer a wider variety of subjects, too? I know CWRU's law school is well-regarded, but that's frankly all I think of when I hear the name of the school." I think you are pretty far off on this natininja. CWRU's law school is decent but not great but their medical school is excellent. They might not be quite up there with Carnegie Mellon overall but it is pretty close. You don't seemed informed enough to be making such assertions. I also think the whole Pittsburgh doing great thing is a bit overstated. The city still lost about 9% of its population over the past 10 years so it has its own problems still. Cleveland was hurt pretty bad over a few year period in the mid 2000's but I don't think the difference between Cleveland Pittsburgh is that big now especially with all the new development going on in Cleveland.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I love the Weeden pick. A starting quarterback that easily has 8 years left in his career is absoultely worth the 22 pick if he ends up working out and I think he will. The offensive line wasn't amazing last year but they weren't that bad, Colt would leave the pocket prematurely because he either couldn't see or was too flighty. Weeden gets rid of the ball quickly and if we get a decent righ tackle in the next few picks (a necessity, they absoultely need a right tackle) I think Weeden will be fine. He will have richardson blocking out of the backfield too. I think Randle is a better pick than Hill. He actually ran faster at his pro day so I don't think speed is a concern. He is better at getting separation and is a more complete receiver than Hill. I think that should be the Brown's pick at 5 in the second round and then they might have to move back up into the lower part of the round to get their tackle.

I loved crossfire. That looks so outdated to me and I am only 23. I am getting old I guess.

I heard that it would be metered with 30 minutes free or something along those lines.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
I agree that people from other parts of the city should be able to park in university circle. I do not think it is necessary for people to be able to park immediately adjacent to every building in University Circle though. That is basically the suburban strip mall model where you drive from store to store down the strip. Think of Uptown as "Crocker Park". Do you demand to park directly next to Barnes and Noble at Crocker Park? I don't think so. Why do people have higher parking standards in an urban neighborhood than in a faux shopping district. People walk farther to get to the store they want to go to when parking in a large shopping mall parking lot. UC will be the park once and walk model rather than the hop from place to place by car model. I think people will deal with it just fine.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Lafont, I guess my impression of the parking is that it will more than adequate for that location. The majority of business will come from people on foot. The Parking lot that was behind Starbucks at Cornell and Euclid (before hotel construction) was probably only about 1/4 as big as the uptown parking and it was almost never completely full. The parking needs here are not going to be the same as the parking needs at severance center or some other suburban shopping complex.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Archangel is right. The majority of student housing is actually only about a block north of the new bookstore so it is actually more convenient than the old one. I was amazed at how much parking is behind the building. There is more than enough for the businesses that are there. I don't think that residents of Uptown are actually supposed to park there though but I am not sure where they will be parking, perhaps the garage by the triangle.

I checked out the new bookstore. It basically has the same stuff as the old campus bookstore which is not much in the way of normal books. It is quite nice however and the cafe was bigger than I thought it would be. There are a lot of Cleveland pictures which is cool and even a timeline of Cleveland history on the wall! It is nice to have a place in the circle that has office supplies, electronics accessories, and at least some books. It should get more non-student traffic as it now has a visible street location.

Cleveland Downtown St. Patrick's Day - Recap
This was my first spd parade in Cleveland and it was crazy. People were openly drinking and smoking pot everywhere but not really being too rowdy. All of Euclid ave was filled with people from public square almost up to e. 9th street. I would have to imagine the experience was very close to new years eve in New York. Public square was so mobbed that traffic could not get through for at least an hour or two. I wonder if this was the largest event ever in downtown Cleveland. Does anybody know of anything that attracted more people?

Why are young people driving less?
The oil field example is about the only job worth leaving home for for most people and you have to live in the middle of nowhere North Dakota. Young people either have to be highly educated and specialized which makes finding a job somewhat difficult and moving to a random city difficult, or they have to work a minimum wage wal-mart type job. The economy also adds to the problem. In the 1990's it was easy to move somewhere you wanted to and then get a job. Now young people might have a lot more difficulty doing that. One other thing that I thought of when reading the article was that the helicopter parents of the 1990's and 2000's are needier and want their kids around more. A lot of them had children when they were older which might keep their children from leaving them all by themselves in their mid or late 50's. It is a lot easier to move away from your parents when they are 45 than when they are 60.

Cleveland: In Need of a Major College Presence?
Case actually is a pretty big university with a lot of students. It just doesn't connect with the rest of Cleveland very well. Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights are helped a lot by Case being close by but the City of Cleveland itself has not gained a ton. With the recent building boom in University Circle this might be changing though. Case is on the rise though (its medical school is in the top 20, not everyone can be in the top ten) and might start to get more national recognition.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
If the Cleveland Police department had a handful of police on foot at all times downtown most safety problems would be solved. You get a much better feel for potential risks when walking around rather than sitting in a police car.

Cleveland: University Circle: Centric Development (formerly Intesa)
I don't really care about traffic. It is what it is. If traffic is heavy people will adjust. I will say that it has taken me about 20 minutes (if not more) to get from Mayfield and Ford to Mayfield and Murray Hill. This is about .5 miles so I could indeed have walked that distance about twice as fast. I would think that the Little Italy powers would be very supportive of this development. This project would be within easy walking distance of the Little Italy business district making it an accessible lunch spot.

Cleveland: University Circle: Centric Development (formerly Intesa)
About the only thing the cleveland.com poster has a point on is the traffic. This project may add some traffic concerns but in relation to UC as a whole it won't add that much. I think traffic could be routed better through Little Italy with perhaps a stop light at Murray Hill and Mayfield. The comment about crime is ridiculous. This is probably the safest place in the city of Cleveland. I think the comment overall shows that there are two distinct views of what UC should be. One side (the cleveland.com poster) thinks UC should be a green campus type of area with lots of open space and lower density development. The other side (urbanohio and UCI) think that UC should be Cleveland's second downtown. I think this poster's comments are similar to complaints from Cleveland State students about their new development. All they see is the slight inconvenience to them in the short term without understanding what the future benefits will be. Students that go to both schools 5 years from now will not know anything except the new UC and will enjoy it more.

Cleveland: MOCA
It doesn't need to be polished. The covering material is warped so the building does not give a cool reflection back. The reflection is very scattered. It is not like the mirror like finish from the mock up and looks kind of cheap. Go check it out to see what I mean. I still think the building will be cool but not as good as it could have been.

Cleveland: MOCA
Has anyone else checked out the black paneling recently? It looks really wavy and does not give a cool reflection as was promised. Maybe the construction workers do not know how to attach it properly but it looks kind of crappy in my opinion. It looks the worst on the side facing the corner which was done first. The sides which were done in the past week look a bit better. Hopefully they fix this.
