  3. If this school is part of the CMSD, you have to assume that there will be a city-wide lottery for enrollment for at least some percentage of the seats.
  4. It would be nice to be a hub for the largest airline in the world, however.
  5. Ho hum...I'll still be flying Southwest regardless of what happens with Continental...

I agree. I've seen 'Bron take so many hits/falls that would seemingly put other professional athletes out for weeks or months and he'll shake it off like it was nothing. This is why I'm kind of worried about how much of a big deal is being made out of this elbow injury.

Something about this LeBron injury has me thinking of our fair town's sports curses. I just get that bad feeling of "here we go again"...
  8. I don't remember there being any outdoor seating at Hornblower's, but I only at there once or twice when I was much younger. Oddly enough it was only on the occasion when out-of-town family was in to visit and we were downtown to sightsee...
  9. Reasoning? They don't have a stadium and because it's an expensive sport, even if non-scholarship. It will lose money and I just don't think the University benefits all that much from it. Interesting as for most schools the football program is one of the few athletic activities that earn money. Apparently, all the sports would become non-scholarship Not sure if I understand you correctly here, but I don't think all sports will go non-scholarship. I suspect that sports like baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball, etc. would all still be scholarship.
  10. I read a lot about the subject a few years ago and if I recall correctly, Cleveland was considered a leading expansion candidate city. Things went down the drain when the man who was a driving force behind our bid passed away.
  11. When Miller and Coors merged, they wanted to choose a "neutral" city for the headquarters instead of going with Milwaukee or Denver. They ended up going with Chicago. Maybe Cleveland could be a neutral site for United-Continental? :)

Forgot to mention this, but have you considered Mayfield Heights? Same neck of the woods as Highland Heights, but probably more affordable rentals and just about as safe (a bit safer than South Euclid or Shaker Heights).

That area is decent. Close to the entrance of Euclid Creek Reservation, which is a nice park area. Sort of bordering the area that Hts121 mentioned above near Brush High School.
  14. If Cleveland State wants to move from commuter college to residential, which I think is a great idea, I don't think a football team matters much in the grand scheme. Lots of very highly-rated residential colleges around the country lack football programs. I don't think it's a necessity, nor that it should be a priority at this point. And as someone who will be attending CSU for grad school in the near future, I certainly hope that I won't have to help fund such an endeavor. :whip:

Interesting as for most schools the football program is one of the few athletic activities that earn money. I don't believe that to be true. For a certain percentage of schools, maybe about 20-25% (of D-IA mind you), it's a huge cash cow. But like someone else mentioned above, it's a big loser for most schools that sponsor it.

Yeah, what I'm thinking of is Lakeside Rd. from about 12th St. eastward. Not an attractive area.

  18. I don't think CSU adding football makes much sense.

Who runs the homeless shelters? I hate to say it, but IMO those need to be moved if we really want that area to thrive.

I think I've driven through that area a few times. If it's what I'm thinking of, it's weird. Lots of empty buildings, sketchy characters wandering around.
  21. I like the McCoy selection and the fact that it came when it did. I am not sure I like the previous two picks that they grabbed in the second round. I really wish they would have taken Mays at 38th.
  22. With a large payroll, teams like the Yankees and Red Sox have the cushion to make big mistakes (and they have). The Indians can't. The Twins have done just about everything right, which is why they've been a consistent competitor.
  23. Posnanski has been skewering the Yankees and MLB's salary structure as of late. In fact, so have Gammons, Olney, and many others. I love the sport, and love the Tribe, but the league is so unfair. At least in the NBA and NFL, the playing field is level, and the fact that the Browns and Cavs haven't won anything in years has just been due to bad management over the years. The Tribe is really at a big disadvantage.
  24. Like I've said many times, I actually agree with most of what Carey has suggested to help Cleveland. But I still believe that a man of his means can and should do more to help out the city. Maybe my expectations are too high, but I would think that someone in his position could do quite a bit to make this place better. Perhaps I'm overestimating what one wealthy/famous man can do. But it seems to me that he has resources to spur change to his hometown, a place that he supposedly loves, that many others do not have access to.
  25. This looks like that bridge in Boston.
