Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but it seems like the work on Warrensville Center Road is almost done?

CLEVELAND - Beast of Burton, to the Heights of Chagrin to the Fall of Downtown
Chagrin Falls and Burton are such great little towns.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Yeah it's just propaganda. Watch closely as to how many promises made in the effort to garner support for this glorified freeway fail to come to fruition.

Cleveland: Retail News
It's not silly at all. Yes University Square has had problems, but it's still more than serviceable. However when you give stores unnecessary extra options, of course they're going to go running for the perceived greener grass. Considering what is located at Oakwood, it's nothing but a duplication of what we already had around here, the difference is now we have less green space than before. A net loss all around.

Odd considering that Cleveland is often rated one of the fattest cities in the country. One can only imagine what the means for the sedentary exurban residents that will travel the freeway to frequent this place.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Wrap, paint, whatever the case may be, it's still garish. How about we put less money towards the Opportunity Corridor and more towards the RTA? And then to make up the shortfall for the Corridor project, place tons of ugly ads along that road instead. Heck maybe any driver that will be regularly using the Corridor should be required to either pay a toll or put an ugly ad on their car.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
It's been a few months since I have ridden the Rapid, but I was driving home from work the other day and noticed that one of the trains in Shaker Heights was covered in a disgusting billboard for an online sports betting company. I mean, it wasn't just an ad on the side like you see on some buses, the entire train was painted green with white text for this company. What a disgrace. I'm just glad that when I had family in town in June that when we rode RTA down to the Tribe game that the trains hadn't yet been vomited on by Kermit the Frog.

Cleveland: Retail News
"One big cluster" that is divided amongst at least 3-4 "independent" suburbs that are all racing each other to the bottom and have no intent to work together towards a larger plan. It's truly insane and could have been avoided if the region was sensibly organized ~80 years ago. Or if regional government had ever taken off ~50 years ago. Or even ~20 years ago. Instead we waste valuable land that could be used for parks or practically anything else that ends up being used for unneeded new retail developments. :whip:

Not really, no, it just says more about you as a person than I ever could.

So typical of the sprawl attitude around here: "What's in it for me?"

Always think of it like this: How might the outcome have been different if the assailant was using a knife.

Cleveland: Retail News
Great! I can't wait to see the list of stores they'll be poaching from Beachwood Place, Eton, and Legacy. That seems to be how things work around this side of town. (See above post.) Of course I strongly believe that none of this would be possible without all of these little suburb/fiefdoms that we have in Cuyahoga County that are hellbent on racing each other to the bottom at the expense of the region as a whole.

I can't find the news story, but a relative just told me that TJ Maxx is pulling out of University Square and heading over to Oakwood Commons. So if true, essentially Oakwood Commons hasn't drawn a major tenant of its own yet which still makes me curious why it was needed in the first place.

Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
You're absolutely right, at least for me I'm just being nostalgic for what it once was. There's no point in UA maintaining it, though I do wish there might be a way for someone to find a creative use for the buildings in the future.

Akron: University of Akron: Development and News
I was just going to say, at one point in time (must have been the 90s that I remember), Quaker Square was truly amazing. I loved going there as a child, even as a Clevelander who only got to go there on rare occasions.

Higher Education
UW-Madison is one of the finest public universities in the country. Walker's policies are beyond idiotic. There may be an argument to be made that tenure is antiquated and should be eliminated, but doing this now, and in that manner, jeopardizes Badger U.'s ability to compete for top faculty.

NHL: General News & Discussion
Oh, don't get me started on this. Tons of teams have played or are currently playing in cities that don't match the city name on their uniforms. Heck the Cleveland Cavaliers played well outside of Cleveland in northern Summit County for several decades.

NHL: General News & Discussion
This is really bad, but I didn't even know that the Coyotes changed their name from "Phoenix" to "Arizona." I guess they're worried that folks in places like Winslow, Flagstaff, and Yuma might be inclined to root for other NHL teams? ;)

Cleveland: Retail News
I really loved going to Tower City in the 1990s, making my parents take me to the Disney Store among other places. Even now when I ride the train down I enjoy strolling around, maybe grabbing some food before heading to a Cavs or Tribe game. But I'm also not as bullish as some of you. I think that there are accessibility issues (by car) for shoppers that don't really exist in other malls and yes the perceived safety concerns present a challenge. It's probably more convenient for downtown workers at least to head back home and do their shopping at their "neighborhood" mall. But beyond even that, the retail model in this country seems to be changing quickly with an increasing number of people shopping online. That's a growing challenge for shopping centers everywhere in the region and nationwide, not just Tower City.

I like these ghost fans that appear in the pictures. Kind of like what we have now down at the stadium.

Cedar Point
Clevelander17 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI think the tallest is maybe 205 feet? Hopefully they try and best that number by a comfortable margin with this new one.

Clevelander17 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentMean Streak has been terrible for decades now. They need to do something, I was always thinking that it should just be torn down. Can it be renovated into a decent ride?

Cleveland: Retail News
True, and to a higher degree because Chipotle rarely has a drive thru, and Chik-Fil-A rarely doesn't. Yeah, I thought about the drive thru aspect as well, which is also a definite negative for any mall Chik-Fil-A location.

Cleveland: Retail News
A friend of mine got his first job in the mid-1990s working at the Beachwood Place Chick-Fil-A. I remember we would often go up there during the summer and harass him and joke about his chicken suit. Not much else to do in the pre-internet, pre-cell phone era. Regardless, I don't really frequent the place, but it does seem to me that it has the name and following that dictates that freestanding locations are probably easier and more accessible for customers. I think having one in a mall is akin to having a Chipotle in a mall.
