Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
This design are terrible on a number of levels, but it might be mitigated if the boxes weren't all different sizes and if the ads weren't put on them. I just don't understand hoq they thought this would look okay.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
It's really an odd suggestion, isn't? As a resident of the Heights, I see nothing beneficial about merging with Cleveland...unless it's part of a wide-scale merger that also includes places like Beachwood, Solon, Independence, Westlake, etc.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Look, if you're opposed to sprawl, there's probably no way that you can justify supporting this project. It basically signals to residents that if they move to the far-flung suburbs that everyone else will drop everything to make their lives easier. If just one person moves from the city limits or inner-ring suburbs to one of the areas that this highway services because that new location made the commute more realistic, then this is no longer "sprawl-neutral" or just increasing connectivity. It's now actively promoting the movement of people outward, which I would definitely call sprawl.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Truthfully I'd simply support not doing anything. I'm just saying that if this much money is floating around, then there are literally dozens of better uses for it. And no, it's ridiculous to claim that this is simply spending the money that those taxpayers would prefer. I doubt that their combined total contributions even come close to covering the costs. Hell, we can't even properly maintain the roads/infrastructure that we already have, and that's with everyone's money. The neighborhood in question is toast either way, so this road is basically worthless from that standpoint...even if it weren't really a glorified freeway, which it is. But I disagree that this thing doesn't promote sprawl. There's still plenty of developable land in the southwest suburbs

Inner Ring East Side Cleveland Schools
I think that that trend is well on its way in the Mayfield Schools. Mayfield Heights is far and away the biggest city in the district, and it is a city that is steadily changing demographically because of the housing/apartment stock. My guess is that almost no one in Gates Mills uses the public schools, and Highland Heights and Mayfield Village both also have high percentages of families using private schools. This is a recipe for a school district that is quickly becoming more similar to its neighbors to the north/west than its neighbors to the south/east.

Inner Ring East Side Cleveland Schools
You didn't know that your old buddy from 4 Meyer grew up in University Heights and still lives in the Heights area? ;) I think that Shaker Heights is a safe bet for schools depending on your housing budget. The ratings are a bit deceiving for all schools like that because of the proportion of low-income students they serve, but the district overall still offers a wide variety high quality programs. I personally would have no problems sending a child to Cleveland Heights-University Heights or even South Euclid-Lyndhurst, but for many those options have long become unrealistic.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
IHOP at Severance is closing. >yawn<

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
Yeah it's terrible. They should really allow traffic to turn left onto Scottsdale.

Cleveland: Retail News
More poaching by Oakwood Commons. What an absolute waste of land and the folks behind that development are proven again to be liars. Another example of why we need regional planning, particularly in regards to retail development in the eastern suburbs.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
I just don't agree with this argument. No one is forcing these people to live so far away from one of the region's most important employment center. This is a defeatist attitude that accepts that there's nothing we can do about sprawl. Rather than spending this money on a sprawl-enabling road project, why not invest it in revitalizing the neighborhoods surrounding University Circle?

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I really don't want to see the Heat in the first round. The Cavs are the better team for sure, but talk about facing a team that will be very motivated and if nothing else that could turn into a long, grueling series.

Buckeye Lake: Developments and News
Clevelander17 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHow much would it cost to drain the thing? I guess this is one of those things where as an NEOhioan, I'm not sure I understand why $150 million of state money is being used to fix this problem--that seems like a huge pricetag. Is there precedent for a project like this?

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Basketball Discussion
Nice win for the Buckeyes this afternoon against a solid VCU squad. Next up will be the Arizona Wildcats.

Sprawl Post-Recession - Why Are Developers Still Building It?
People can build and live wherever they choose (within reason), but it's long past time that sprawlers start taking on more of the burden to move to these far-flung areas. Building new interchanges, the extension utilities infrastructure, heck I even think there's an argument that when they leave one area and insist on duplicate services in a new area that they should responsible for some of the budget shortfall caused in the places they're leaving behind. You can't complain about taxes when the behavior in which you engage necessitates tax increases for everyone.

Ohio New Hot Housing Market
Chicago's much lower than I would have guessed relative to other cities.
-
Lyndhurst: Legacy Village expansion
Wasn't that sort of on purpose? I'm not seeing either the management of either mall or the city being very enthusiastic about this idea. Yes to the first question. And in regards to the second comment, that ship has already set sail.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
What a bizarre and sad story. Even weirder is that cops were present when attacks have happened and they still couldn't figure out where the eggs were coming from.
-
Lyndhurst: Legacy Village expansion
Good information. For some reason I always thought that residential was part of some "phase 2" that never happened because of the economic downturn. Maybe it's the office space I was thinking of that never happened.

Higher Education
I just don't see the value or purpose of "for-profit" educational institutions. If nothing else, they shouldn't be allowed to receive federal funding. Corinthian is probably not the only college of this type that has been gaming the system.

Lyndhurst: Legacy Village expansion
Sorry for the double-post, but are there any drawings of what this might look like? If not, could someone do a mock-up of the route such an extension might take? Thanks!

Lyndhurst: Legacy Village expansion
I always thought that that part of the property was going to be residential?

Lyndhurst: Legacy Village expansion
It's about time. I guess they finally realized that they couldn't sit by as other shopping destinations along the I-271 corridor were making themselves more attractive. Still need a little more, I think.

Minneapolis's White Lie (From The Atlantic)
http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/02/minneapoliss-white-lie/385702/#disqus_thread Interesting piece on something we've discussed in the past regarding certain pedestal cities that are described as models for all other cities to follow.

Governor John Kasich
JobsOhio could be a real issue, but it takes a lot of explaining and connecting the dots. It's almost more an inside baseball type of a thing. The PD interview could possibly be used against him to somehow show that he's a jerk. Not sure if most voters would care too much, though incidentally many Ohio voters would be seeing it for the first time.
