Cleveland Browns Discussion
Hell... even a Bill Clinton toke off the blunt is apparently worse than knocking out a woman. Well, the reinstatement timing is good news. Here's a piece on Gordon's potential legal options: http://www.si.com/nfl/2014/08/28/josh-gordon-suspension-browns-nfl-legal-options

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
Same here, but my guess is that those renderings were just some basic sketches thrown together to show voters what could be possible if the bond issue passed. Side-note, the football stadium is close to being finished and it's looking great.

I disagree, at least in regards to the Cleveland area. I actually think it could help some of the urban inner-ring suburbs around here, particularly those that are landlocked and have little or no industry. As the law is currently written, residents in these suburbs (think Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, Lakewood, etc.) are not only footing the bill for services in Cleveland (which is fine by me), but also in places like Beachwood, Westlake, Solon, etc. (which is not fine by me). The system clearly needs to be reformed, even if this is not the best idea. What we have currently is socialistic with absolutely no common sense behind it, where residents in a certain few municipalities with arbitrarily-drawn borders receive gold-plated services on the backs of residents in other suburbs. This is absolutely killing the inner-ring suburbs.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but my suspicion is that they pushed this ruling back even further simply to try to put time between this decision and the horrible Ray Rice decision. Either way, the Browns are doubly screwed because this means that Gordon will miss all of training camp and most of the preaseason NEXT year as well. What I don't understand is how the NFLPA could allow the NFL to put the discipline procedure for this type of infraction into writing while it leaves many of the other infractions (such as beating your girlfriend) up to the discretion of the league? Clearly there's a gross double-standard here, but how did this even come about. Regardless, for the lawyers that post here, what might Gordon's chances look like were he to take this to court?

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
There was a story a few years ago that Hamilton County was providing free sheriff patrols in the townships. So effectively, residents of cities and villages are subsidizing the township residents who are relying more on the county. That's what I figured could have been happening.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Two thoughts at the moment: 1) I'm happy that Kyrie is representing the United States at the FIBA World Cup, but I always get a little worried about burnout. The Cavs will need him for about 100 games (truthfully he'll be able to sit out 10-15 of them if necessary, but still) and I think front-loading his schedule is a bit of a concern. Especially considering his durability issues thus far. 2) I think Joe Harris could be a key piece for this team if given the opportunity. He's the more youthful version of the veteran players that the Cavs acquired in the offseason, but his perimeter shooting could be one of the best on the roster.

I believe that most townships that don't have their own police department are actually under the sheriff's jurisdiction. However I have no idea who's *really* paying for that (i.e. are they leeching off of county residents who actually live in municipalities?).

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
Two other thoughts here, since I'm on a roll: 1) Eliminating tax credits might help with closing some of the budget gap that would exist for many municipalities if this legislation goes through. 2) As much as anything that any politician could do, this might go a long way towards spurring more mergers and consolidations between municipalities.

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
I'm torn on this issue, though I've been saying for years that we need some sort of local income tax reform. I just don't think it makes sense for employees to pay a full share of income taxes to the city in which they spend no more than 25-33% of their weekly hours and in which they use minimal services. If this were to pass, cities like Cleveland or Akron would have big problems. However I would feel no sympathy for cities like Beachwood or Independence, the residents of whom pay little in income taxes but who have gold-plated services (and overpaid government leaders) at the expense of non-residents. I didn't read the article, but if this is passed, ideally I think that the cap on local income taxes (currently at about 2.75% I think) should be raised to maybe 4%. Either that, or still allow cities to tax non-residents, but cap it at .5 or .75% and raise the residential cap to around 3%. Lost in all of this is something that has baffled me for years: Townships in Ohio do not have the authority to levy income taxes and yet somehow they survive...even the ones that have tens of thousands of residents, for instance Colerain near Cincinnati.

Nah, that's okay, I don't really care to spend time listening to an incredibly biased Miami homer.

Rip off? Maybe you and I use that term differently, but I think that they did the bit more to poke fun at LeBatard.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I don't know, I remember visiting a friend from college in Toledo and jokingly suggesting that we go to the zoo because I had seen an article or list or something suggesting it was one of the best. This was as far back as the early 2000s. I haven't been to a lot of zoos, but something about ours seems kind of...underwhelming.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
what sort of crap, specifically, are you talking about? Just curious Recent tax reforms, education budgeting, reproductive rights, etc. I'm sure I've missed some things, but that's what pops to my mind.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
During the last two Presidential election cycles, the Republican primary race has been a extremist d***-measuring contest. Kasich will be competing against folks with credentials such as not believing in Evolution, still opposing gay rights, and that the United States should still be in Iraq...and Republicans voters that eat this stuff up. His first step is to win their approval and it's not going to come from being a moderate. In fact, that may even be held against him by some of his opponents. He has no incentive to showcase his supposed moderate bona fides in the months leading up to the Presidential race. In regards to FitzGerald, I'd take a trained monkey with a "D" next to his name in the Governor's mansion if it meant he/she/it would provide a counterweight to the crap coming out of the statehouse. I'd love to see Washington-style gridlock in Ohio compared to the legislation we've been getting lately.

I still can't stand Goldhammer. He seems way too into himself and from the few times I've listened to him recently, he's taken on some of Rizzo's idiosyncrasies, which is not a good thing in my opinion.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I think these three zoos have been getting high ratings for years. Good for Ohio...now what can the Cleveland Zoo to do get on their level? Also I had no idea that Toledo has an acclaimed art museum.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Excellent news for Miller and Jones, that means the three of them can now afford a nice suite at Judson without breaking the bank. Especially considering they're all going to be receiving the minimum.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
I don't think that the gas extraction tax situation was ever satisfactorily resolved and while I'll freely admit that I'm more cynical than others regarding politicians, I believe that his "standing up" to the Assembly on that issue played out exactly as planned.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
If someone explains to me that we had to give up so much because of the salary cap, I'd understand. But I have a hard time reconciling the fact that the Knicks did not have to give up this much to acquire Carmelo Anthony a few years back.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I hope in the press conference today they announce they will be removing the Jim Thome statue. That should be the first priority in renovating the stadium.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
In terms of uniforms, I tend to lean towards keeping them simpler. I do sort of like their current uniforms, but I realize that they're going to change them pretty soon so I hope they don't become too garish.

It should have been Strickland.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
This is really what it comes down to. We live in what is undeniably a purple state, but we're on the precipice of getting ourselves a second-term governor who wants to try to impress conservatives nationwide as he runs for President and an extremist legislature that will be all too willing to help him bolster his credentials. It's not going to be pretty and any moderate-minded person should be voting for divided government, a counterbalance to that potentiality, even if it comes in the form of a dimwit like FitzGerald.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Two points: 1) I wasn't really saying that the Boozer situation and the situation Love might find himself in with the Cavaliers next summer are analogous, I'm just saying that based on what Boozer did (and really what professional athletes do time and again), I'd always be hesitant to place any stock in a verbal agreement. Just too risky IMO. 2) Wiggins' stock definitely went down after his one and only season playing college hoops, but he's been highly-touted for years and I believe it's mostly based on his ceiling. There's no doubt that Embiid and Parker both increased their stature because of what they did last year, however it's arguable that both are much closer to peaking than Wiggins.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Okay, I see your point, but I just don't like the idea of "assurances" or hoping players opt-in. Reminds me too much of the Boozer situation. I am a bit more encouraged by your second point about Love probably wanting to cash in on the new television deal...but I'm not sure that helps the Cavaliers necessarily. Bottom line is that I was most excited about this trade when it seemed possible or even likely that Love was going to be here for four or five years. That's how it was sold, IMO. But once this thing turns into trading one of the most highly-touted prospect in years AND several other nice assets for what could very likely turn into a rental, I don't think it's worth it anymore.
