  1. Agree with this 100%. Every municipality is forced to compete for tax revenue, meaning they'll sell their souls to a developer looking to provide them with a shiny new retail center that will be obsolete in a decade or two. Some of this new development is meant to follow the population as it sprawls outward, but of course sprawl itself is greased by the balkanization in Northeast Ohio. The whole situation is a huge mess and only likely to get worse. And I still contend that Oakwood should have been made into a park.

I agree 100%. The Warriors are a dirty team but somehow mostly avoided any serious discipline for their behavior. Every time there was a scrum, the refs found a way to either punish both teams equally, regardless of what happened, OR give the Cavs the more significant punishment. As the replays of the West-Thompson altercation were being shown, it was clear that West should have gotten T'd up twice, but I knew that somehow the officials would find a way to balance it out.

I was saying the same thing. My assumption (and I believe others felt this way as well) was that when the Warriors signed Durant, their bench depth would suffer and the Cavs would have the advantage in that area. That turned out to be wildly inaccurate, as the Warriors bench was fantastic. The Cavs can no longer hold roster spots for LeBron's buddies.

I love people like that. He's from New York and in his Wikipedia page picture he is wearing a Knicks hat. A few years from now when Golden State is no longer a juggernaut, I'm sure he'll be riding some other bandwagon.
  5. Right off the bat I am optimistic that he will get a few of his top recruits to Butler to follow him to Ohio State. I'm hopeful that they one high-profile young man from Ohio, who everyone assumed was going to Ohio State until he chose Butler last fall, will make the switch.
  6. I'd be okay with Chris Holtmann. Unfortunately this is not the slam-dunk hire that I believe Ohio State should have landed.

This breaks all of the rules of posting etiquette, but I couldn't help myself since someone else brought it up.

Oh I get it, they're a well-constructed juggernaut that will hopefully be partially dismantled next year.

Not sure your point here but the Cavs didn't have Kevin Love for the 2015 Finals and Irving only played in the first two games.

Some hope that the reign of terror in Oakland will be shorter-lived than anticipated: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2016/07/07/kevin-durant-and-the-warriors-dream-team-may-become-a-salary-cap-nightmare-next-july/?utm_term=.7eea91d8dbe5 http://www.businessinsider.com/warriors-contracts-free-agents-expensive-future-2017-6

It's strange how many teams in the 1980s wore light blue as their road uniform. Not sure what was behind that trend.
  12. That looks fantastic. Development at this location is a long-time coming as the neighborhood is really the gateway to Cleveland Heights. I just didn't realize how expansive they planned on making it; I really thought it would only be the old Doctors' Hospital corner and not stretch so much further, but I'm okay with that.
  13. Agreed, Smith dropped the ball here. Although Chris Mack is being mentioned, which I would be very happy with.

I'm not a Clevelander, I just play one on message boards, but I agree. I was hoping Jackson would lose the last election. It's time for him to go and to move away from anyone else closely associated with him. I realize that George Voinovich isn't walking through that door, but the city and region needs someone like him running things downtown.
  16. Batting average is an overrated statistic and "clutch hitting" probably doesn't exist. As for OBP, Almonte's .396 is a mirage at this incredibly early stage of the season (see my above post above how small sample sizes can play tricks on us). In reality, he has a career .302 OBP, so if given a large enough sample size over the course of the season, he will revert to being much closer to that number.
  17. Getting back to the Indians, though. I am frustrated that Francona can't find a way to get Diaz's bat in the lineup on an everyday basis. I understand that if they couldn't find a place for him that he needs to be in Columbus where he'll get a higher volume of at-bats, but I'm not convinced that they couldn't find a way to do that at the MLB level. Diaz came to the United States as a 2B, and although he has played the most in his minor league career as a 3B, he can comfortably play either corner outfield position and has even spent some time in CF. It's not as if he can only play one or two positions, he has a versatile glove. I mean, if an Abraham Almonte/Brandon Guyer platoon is the best they've got for RF, he's certainly a more promising option than that duo (or at least Almonte, who is not worthy of a spot on the Tribe's roster, let alone a place in the starting 9).
  18. If one flipped a coin a thousand times consecutively, there would inevitably be long streaks where, if you didn't know any better, it may appear as though the coin flipper was "in the zone" in landing heads or tails. But ultimately, each side of the coin only has a 50% chance of landing face up. The same is true in sports, a batter or shooter is really only as good as their average or shooting percentage dictates (assuming several seasons worth of data), and long streaks are nothing more than statistical variances to which human beings attribute special meaning. Statistical fallacies, if you will, based on our evolutionary development of pattern seeking.
  19. Even worse because the company was based in Northeast Ohio and they had no excuse for not knowing that Geauga Lake was a Cleveland institution. But I have mostly forgiven them because there's nothing else that can be done about it. And Cedar Point truly is an asset worth supporting.

ESPN had College GameDay at UNC yesterday and there were students holding signs making fun of Kyrie. They must not have gotten the joke, either.

I'll admit that I was in that third that wanted to draft "D-Will." Hey, he was an absolute stud in college and Irving was coming off of an injury-ridden season at Duke. But when you're wrong, you're wrong. Oh well. Hopefully he can turn it around here with the championship culture LeBron has developed. Not sure why he wasn't successful elsewhere, but he is young and seems to have the physical tools and shooting ability to become a decent rotation player.
  22. All the more impressive that they made a run to the College Football Playoff this past year. The result was unfortunate, but to lose a class like that and still have such a great season is a testament to what Meyer has built in Columbus.

Greater New York essentially has three NHL teams, making this the only major sports league with three franchises in the same metropolitan area. This is easy for me to say, since I'm not an Islanders fan (and I do sort of remember what it felt like to have the Browns move to Baltimore), but I can't see why the franchise needs to stay in that region. I say move them to Quebec City and have them switch divisions to be united with the other three Canadian teams in the Eastern Conference.

Finished The OA on Netflix last night, not sure what to make of the ending. It was pretty decent overall, though. My next Netflix foray will be A Series of Unfortunate Events. Watched the first episode which was pretty good, so I will give it a go. Also been watching Taboo on FX. There have only been two episodes thus far, but it is phenomenal.
