The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
If they run the table, the voters better put them at #2 or #3, even if that means that they're above an undefeated Washington team. The number of high quality wins this team has had this year has been almost unmatched (and of course to go undefeated the rest of the way out would add two more high profile wins to the list).

Coco was a trade deadline rental that coincidentally also happened to have played here years ago. He was never meant to be a long-term solution. They'll need to bolster the outfield a bit next year, though, but hopefully with someone younger and more consistent at the plate.

Gotcha. I think I heard something similar a few weeks back but was wondering if some more specific news came out recently. I hate to say it, but I'm not counting on him either way. However I'm still a big fan of Naquin, and I think they can pencil in Chisenhall to turn in similar solid production again. I believe Guyer returns as well if Francona wants to platoon in RF again. But what I'm most optimistic about is the possibility that top prospect Bradley Zimmer should be pretty close to being ready to move up from the minors to take a spot on the roster as an outfielder. His batting average isn't great, but he gets on base, has speed, and has some pop as well. Could be the next young star to make the jump.

Well that's that. I'm cautiously optimistic about next year, they'll be fun to watch again, but baseball is so unpredictable and you just have to seize on chances when you get them. Last night was our chance.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Well, the Buckeyes can still make the playoff if they win out, which is pretty much what they needed to do regardless of the outcome of last night's game. Is there any team in the country that plays more night road games on primetime television than the Buckeyes? No excuses, it comes with the territory of being a powerhouse, but it's tough to keep winning games like this...especially when your opponent has a bye week before playing you, which Wisconsin and Penn State both did. I wonder if the Michigan State game will also be at night? (Even though Sparty is terrible this year.)

I'm already sick of the media fawning over the Cubs. Probably going to have to mute the broadcasts just like the Boston series.

I disagree slightly. I felt coming into this season (and actually last season as well) that with the rotation this team had, the playoffs were a strong possibility and that the roster was built for postseason success. The MLB playoffs are always a crapshoot, but I always believed that the ingredients for a deep run were there. What changed for the Tribe was losing two of their top arms and that made me less confident. Miller has essentially pitched as many important innings as either Carrasco or Salazar would have, so the Tribe acquiring and using him in the way that they have is what has unexpectedly helped ease the loss of the Tribe's front-end starters. But beyond that, as with whenever any underdog* advances to the World Series, I think there has been a decent amount of good fortune in how things have played out this postseason for the Tribe. However, as a fan of all Cleveland teams, the house money comment was more in regards to breaking the championship streak. In the past, it was hard to be excited over successful Cleveland teams that didn't finish the job. Now that the Cavs have broken the citywide curse, it's easier to sit back and enjoy runs like these. *IMO, the Tribe became an underdog to both Boston and Toronto by virtue of not having Carrasco and Salazar.

IMO, we're playing with house money. One championship in the bag, up 3-1 in the ALCS. There's no difference to me between winning one more game or four more. Five more wins makes this an unbelievably magical year for Cleveland sports, but it's been a great run even if we lose the next 3 (which I doubt will happen).

Funny, I wrote on Twitter last week that I thought a winless Brown season was a fair trade for both Cavs and Tribe titles in the same year.

2016 U.S. Senate Race
Hmm, it's almost like the NRA is a bunch of partisan hacks. They endorsed him in 2010. Strickland's changed not them. Regardless of whether or not that's really true, it's a foolish strategy on their part. They should have spread the money around; the Dems are on the verge of winning back the Senate, or at least forcing a 50-50 which will be broken by Kaine as VP. This is great news if you're for sensible gun control measures and want Supreme Court Justices on the bench that don't tow the NRA's extremist line. They may win the "battle" with Portman over Strickland, but they're going to lose the "war" over the Senate as a whole.

So what role, if any, will Danny Salazar be able to play moving forward for the club? I don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but I like how this could be shaping up. If he could join the ALCS roster and pitch in long relief behind Tomlin or Clevinger (or Bauer even), that would be huge.

And Bauer's start today does not inspire confidence in him as the #2 heading into October.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
I want to believe that this team will rally around this setback, but losing Carrasco for the season after Salazar suffered the same fate is a huge blow. The Tribe was set to have arguably the most dominant front-end of the rotation of any team heading into the postseason. Now they've got Kluber (who incidentally is pitching like an ace) and Bauer (who is a solid starter) and several question marks. The Indians can definitely compete because the bullpen is still really good and the lineup is decent enough, but the chances of winning it all are much more of a long-shot. This is really frustrating. If they were healthy and another team was just better in the playoffs, I'd be okay with that, but we're not even going to get to see what this team might have been able to accomplish at its best.

Cedar Point
Clevelander17 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentSo Mean Streak is now closed. Some of the rumors for what happens with the ride next are promising. I rode it a few weeks back and it was as terrible as I remember, but some renovations (as speculated) could restore it into a decent roller coaster. That said... As I was watching the "late rites" being read for Mean Streak from last night, I do find it a bit ironic that Cedar Fair put on a tongue-in-cheek goodbye ceremony for this piece of crap 25 year old coaster that few people really liked and let guests ride it one last time, but they wouldn't even give generations of Geauga Lake fans a final chance to visit the 100+ year-old park and ride its rides in 2007 when it closed. Geauga Lake closed 9 years to the day yesterday.

It's a huge injustice in situations like these when we send so much tax revenue to Columbus and then have to beg for only a portion of it back and it comes with stipulations that aren't necessarily in the best interest of our region.

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
On the list of reasons why people "demand" charter schools, this probably doesn't even crack the top 3. I don't think that fiscal responsibility is a term that many associate with charter schools in general.
