Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
CSU and the City need to work together. According to the article, the mayor's office is not happy with this situation. Maybe the next time CSU needs something from the City, the request gets "lost" in the circular file cabinet. Also, if CSU is using state money for this project (which seems possible), even if there are no specific rules for employment, it does look bad if they're going out-of-state for workers if people from here are qualified to do the job.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Hmm, I guess it is news. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/04/unions_protest_campus_village.html Looks like the story is that they've made only minimal effort in hiring local workers.

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
Yeah, that's the other part of this discussion that I find a bit peculiar (even if completely legal). In another 10 years we could have another ballot amendment vote on the issue once again declaring "marriage" between a man and a woman.

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
Yeah I was confused by that at first, too. Next year seems more likely for this.

Ohio LGBTQ+ News
I wonder how this might affect the Presidential election? Some have argued that the 2004 amendment here in Ohio played a significant role in getting Bush re-elected. Further, if as election day approaches and poll numbers are indicating that this will pass comfortably, I wonder how Romney might approach the issue if asked about it.

Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
I hope you realize what a lot of those success stories (including almost all of the ones you mentioned specifically by name) have in common. I don't really buy the idea that change for the sake of change is always a good thing, especially as that idea pertains to education, and in particular changes that are meant to hammer teachers.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Basketball Discussion
Great run for the Buckeyes. Last night's loss was tough, but it was a great season and I'm happy with the run they made. Hopefully Thomas comes back, and he, along with Craft and Smith and Amir Williams, Sam Thompson, Shannon Scott, and Evan Ravenal should form a solid core of players that can make the squad very competitive again next year.

Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
In moving forward with this plan, it seems a lot of assumptions are being made about the ability to accurately and fairly judge "performance," whether it be of individual teachers or entire schools. A lot of what passes for education "reform" these days is nothing more than the implementation unproven right-wing ideas rooted in "market" forces that are supposed to magically improve everything. Unfortunately you're now starting to see a lot of Democrats, like Jackson in this case, being snookered into implementing these ideas because they're desperate in trying to improve something for which there is no magic bullet.

South Euclid: Cedar Center
What exactly does this mean? Call me skeptical, but when I drive by, I see the same old, ugly Bob Evans that in my opinion automatically brings down whatever else is being built there several notches.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Looks like demolition of the old Cleveland School for the Arts is coming along nicely.

Not 100% certain, though my guess is protest. Still looking for a news article about it.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I'm confused...a post having to do with potential labor issues and delays related to the north campus development has nothing to do with "Cleveland State University developments"?!

Cleveland Downtown St. Patrick's Day - Recap
Wasn't this moved from this thread into the RTA thread? Was it? If so, I apologize because I did not see it.

Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
I'd like to hear your opinion on the negatives of merit pay, eliminating LIFO/seniority, and tenure. These are changes that are often called for by "reform" advocates, but I'm not sure what the research shows on those measures.

I think it was actually about a year ago. Anyways, I love Moe's, but I've always enjoyed Pedro Pedros, so I'm okay as long as we have one of those options near campus.

Is that other Mexican place still open? I haven't been over there for lunch in a long time.

Cleveland Downtown St. Patrick's Day - Recap
I usually enjoy a little downtown drunken debauchery, but I'm kind of glad I sat it out yesterday.

In the interest of not getting myself permanently banned from this website, all I will say is this: I was clearly joking with that comment.

I think it would make for a nice entrance to a new parking garage...or the skywalk attached to said new parking garage.

They still mustn't take Richardson at #4.

Cleveland sports talk radio
A podcast? I don't want to listen to the whole thing, I'm just curious as to how he feels about the Cavaliers. I just find it odd that a national guy/serious Boston homer spends time talking about the Cavaliers. Getting back to local talk radio...today was the first day of free agency for the NFL and the fact that the Browns didn't do anything right away has been the talk of 92.3 this afternoon/evening.

Cleveland: Restoring Brick Streets/ Removing Asphalt Overlay
Question (since I'm not a bike rider): How accessible are brick roads to bicyclists? Considering the amount of abuse my car takes on the few brick roads around Little Italy and Cleveland Heights, I can't imagine it's much fun trying to ride a bike on those roads.

Governor John Kasich
I voted for Kasich and think he did the right thing in turning down the 3-C funding (*ducking*). However I have a big problem with his method of closing the budget and the way he's regarded education, safety, and other public employees. I'd look forward to voting for a guy in Fitzgerald who knows Northeast Ohio and would be able to look out for our interests.
