Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
Eaton's HQ building is actually in Beachwood, not Highland Hills. I know that may seem like nitpicking, but considering that's millions in revenue for one city/school district that's been hoarding it and doesn't need it as much the other, I think it's really an important point to remember. I believe that Cleveland/CMSD also get a slice of the action because the city owned the land and because of an anti-poaching agreement, but I don't think that Highland Hills/WHCSD see one red cent from the Eaton relocation.

Stuck in Ohio or Content?
Yes, but why do you ask? The Decemberists are one of my favorite bands as of late! FYI Oregon is also home to Portland, where the dream of the 90s is alive and well.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I don't know if Thompson will ever come close to developing into the scorer that Malone was.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Nice win over New Jersey tonight--really poured it on the fourth quarter. This team is definitely better than I expected them to be, however I'm torn because I still want them to be able to land a high pick in next year's loaded draft class.

Marcellus / Utica Natural Gas & Fracking
This is a pretty controversial issue that is only likely to heat up even more in the coming months and years. I'll be honest, I only have a vague idea of what fracking actually is, but from what I've read, it seems like there are still a lot of unknowns about the process and its effects on the environment. From contaminated water to earthquakes, it seems like this could cause some serious potential problems for regions that allow it to occur--especially if it's a populated area. On the flip side, if it proves to be something that can be done safely, it could really provide a boost for Ohio's economy. What are your thoughts on the issue? South Euclid: Cedar Center
I'd actually much prefer the "old" Cedar Center north stores/configuration. Way to go South Euclid!

Moving to Shaker Square
Perhaps as a general rule, but the couple of apartments I looked at north of the square were less than appealing. Oh, sure that's possible, I guess I should have clarified that I'm speaking strictly from a safety standpoint. I can't comment too much on the architectural/maintenance aspect of those buildings.

Moving to Shaker Square
As a general rule, the further north and east you can go, the better. Shaker Square is pretty decent, but it goes downhill pretty fast once you start moving west and/or south of the retail area. I take it you'll be riding the Rapid to Tower City and then taking the Health Line a few blocks back to campus? I thought about doing that when I first started going to CSU, but I've never actually made the trip so I don't know how smoothly it goes.

East Cleveland: Development and News
I dont think the safety director issue will throw things off. Hell its about time EC had a Mayor with Balls My point is that I've heard it was done to try to get Norton to resign, heck it's half of the man's salary! But if he doesn't resign, which I don't think he will, there's likely going to be a fight and I think it could be a distraction for what they're trying to do in EC.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Fair enough. I just like to see context for the graphs and figures. I tend to shy away from making judgments based on police blotters/news stories because again those usually don't offer much context or paint a complete picture of things.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I think we need some context. How do those maps compare to maps from other periods of 30 days? When I look at those maps I see a lot of crimes being committed, but is this out of the norm? How does it compare to other major US cities of roughly the same size? Not saying it should be acceptable, but is all of this outrage really warranted?

Stuck in Ohio or Content?
The more I think about it, the more I think I am stuck in Ohio. I'd much rather be living here in the State of Erie. ;)

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Also today on Symon's FB he was kicking around the idea of a Cleveland-themed restaurant with Cleveland-based brews and music. Probably will never happen, but I love that thinking!

East Cleveland: Development and News
Not to take this thread too far off-topic, but there is a mess brewin' between Mayor Norton and EC City Council. Hopefully this doesn't throw some of the great things that have been happening in the city under Norton's watch off-track.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Kyrie's field goal percentage is the only concern I have with him at the moment. TT is going to turn out to be a near-perfect fit for Scott's system. I agree with Hts about the importance of getting another good draft pick, but...the Pistons are a really bad basketball team, so I'm not too "worried" that the Cavaliers are going to be winning so much that they won't once again be in the top 5 or in terms of lottery balls.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
I'm sure SoCal has some nice parts, but what I remember most from my trips there is spending lots of time in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeway.

NBA: General News & Discussion
Hopefully teams in the Eastern Conference like the Knicks, Bulls, and Celtics really start to pull things together to push the Heat in the playoffs. Who knows where Howard may end up or what other big moves might happen before the trade deadline. I'm thinking some teams can still get stronger, too. And worse case scenario, LeBron wins a title this year with an asterisk. ;)

Sears / Kmart News
I wandered around Sears last Thursday while Conrad's did some work on my car. I really have no harbinger for comparing the store to others, but it did seem kind of quiet. Interesting thing about Richmond Town Center is that while I keep hearing rumors about how it is "dying," it still has three department stores and a collection of other decent stores. Lots of vacancy too, but overall still hanging on.

NBA: General News & Discussion
I was really worried this might happen with Cole. In other news Chris Wright (Dayton) made the roster with Golden State but has yet to see any playing time. Hopefully he'll get a chance to prove himself, too.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
It probably helps CWRU in such a ranking that most of its graduates are leaving there with degrees in high in-demand STEM fields.

Stuck in Ohio or Content?
I really can't imagine myself living anywhere else in the country. I spent some time in Arizona in the late 2000s and while it definitely has its advantages, it just never was home for me. Depending on what the job prospects are in my field when I finish up my program as CSU, I may have to look elsewhere, but I'm really hoping that at worst wherever the may be it's within a short day's drive of Ohio. As much as I love living here--in the exact suburb of Cleveland in which I grew up even--with so many of my friends moving away (and coming back this time of the year to visit family), I do sort of feel like "that guy" at times. I wish I didn't get that feeling, Cleveland is not a small town by any stretch, nor is it a place that people should have to feel like "they're getting away from." Unfortunately when my friends come back for the holidays from places like Chicago or New York and out west like Colorado and Southern California, it can be a little awkward being that guy living in Cleveland where we all grew up. I don't know how else to describe it but perhaps others can relate.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Can't think of the name of the place (I saw the sign yesterday but forgot already), but the space next to the bike shop on Chagrin Boulevard in Shaker Heights that used to house Sasamatsu is something brand new. More recently it was something else (Middle Eastern) but I guess that didn't do so well.

Governor John Kasich
The SB5 debacle was huge and really can't be glossed over like that.

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
We do have 100.7, but I seriously think it's terrible these days with its modern hard rock/classic rock hybrid (and crappy talk shows). Can't believe it was once considered the best radio station in the country...definitely not living up to that legacy anymore.
